Methods and apparatus are presented for sensing current flowing in a power transistor of a switch mode converter, in which a voltage is sensed across a first field effect transistor connected in a series circuit branch in parallel with the power transistor, and the sensed voltage is used to generate output signal to indicate the current flowing in the power transistor.

Switch mode power converter current sensing apparatus and method

The embodiments described herein relate to an improved circuit technique for a multiple input regulator circuit having multiple power paths therein. The multiple input regulator circuit may be configured to minimize integrated circuit area by utilizing a single power transistor in the power path from each of the power sources to the output of the regulator circuit. The single power transistor is adapted to provide both power source selection and power source regulation functions, thus replacing the power selection transistor and the power regulation transistor of conventional designs.

Various apparatuses, methods and systems for a front end protection circuit with a dynamic charge pump system are disclosed herein. For example, some embodiments provide an apparatus such as a voltage regulator, a current regulator, a driver circuit or a switch protection circuit. The apparatus includes an output switch, a switch controller and a voltage threshold detector. The apparatus operates in a reduced power mode when the threshold detector detects a feedback level passing a threshold. In some particular embodiments, the switch controller includes a charge pump and an oscillator that run at lower speeds to reduce power usage when the feedback level passes the threshold. In various embodiments, the feedback level is a voltage level at the output switch control input, the output voltage from the output switch, or the output current from the output switch.
