Silica-alumina catalyst compositions and to a process for converting hydrocarbonaceous feed using the catalyst are disclosed. The present invention relates to a highly homogeneous, amorphous silica-alumina cogel material, the attributes of which make it especially useful for the Hydroprocessing of hydrocarbonaceous feeds either alone or in combination with other catalysts. This invention relates to a highly homogeneous amorphous silica-alumina catalyst having a surface to bulk silica to alumina ratio (SB ratio) of from about 0.7 to about 1.3, preferably from about 0.8 to about 1.2, more preferably from about 0.9 to about 1.1, and most preferably 1.0 and a crystalline alumina phase present in an amount no more than about 10%, preferably no more than about 5%. A catalyst of the present invention exhibits higher activity and better product selectivity in comparison with other silica-alumina catalysts.

Highly homogeneous amorphous silica-alumina catalyst composition

A layered hydrocracking catalyst system has high middle distillate selectivity when used for hydrocracking a high sulfur and high nitrogen containing feedstock. The layered system comprises a first layer catalyst with contains a zeolite having a unit cell size of greater than about 24.35 Angstroms, and a second layer catalyst which contains a zeolite having a unit cell size of less than about 24.30 Angstroms. The layered system is particularly beneficial in terms of catalyst life and product selectivity for reactors operated under conditions of a high temperature profile.

Middle distillate selective hydrocracking process

A physically intermixed catalyst system comprising two distinctly different catalytic particles, the first of which is a hydrodenitrification and/or hydrodesulfurization catalyst and the second of which is a relatively active hydrocracking catalyst, wherein the catalyst particles of both catalytic components are substantially the same size, that is the effective diameter of each catalyst component is substantially the same. The catalyst system of the present invention can be layered with unmixed catalysts. The novel systems of the present invention have been found to provide surprisingly good selectivity for liquid products and stability against catalyst fouling when used in combined hydrotreating and hydrocracking applications, and can therefore be used to provide a stable catalyst system which offers even heat distribution and reactor control in such applications.

This invention relates to catalyst compositions useful in converting hydrocarbonaceous oils. The catalyst comprises an ultra stable Y zeolite base, wherein said Y zeolite has a unit cell size greater than about 24.55 .ANG. and a crystal size less than about 2.8 microns, an amorphous cracking component, a binder, and a catalytic amount of hydrogenation component selected from the group consisting of a Group VI metal, a Group VIII metal, and mixtures thereof. The invention also relates to processes that are suitable for the catalyst use therein.

Hydrocarbon conversion processes and catalysts used therein

A process is disclosed for dewaxing a hydrocarbon feed to produce a dewaxed lube oil. The feed includes straight chain and slightly branched chain paraffins having 10 or more carbon atoms. In the process the feed is contacted under isomerization conditions with an intermediate pore size molecular sieve having a crystallite size of no more than about 0.5.mu. and pores with a minimum diameter of at least 4.8.ANG. and with a maximum diameter of 7.1.ANG. or less. The catalyst has sufficient acidity so that 0.5 g thereof when positioned in a tube reactor converts at least 50% of hexadecane at 370.degree. C., a pressure of 1200 psig, a hydrogen flow of 160 ml/min, and a feed rate of 1 ml/hr. It also exhibits 40 or greater isomerization selectivity when used under conditions leading to 96% conversion of hexadecane to other chemicals. The catalyst includes at least one Group VIII metal. The contacting is carried out at a pressure from about 15 psig to about 3000 psig.
