System(s) and method(s) that facilitate assignment mismatch recovery are provided. A projected level of resources required to satisfy one or more communication constraints (e.g., inter-cell and intra-cell interference) is generated. The projected resources are contrasted with scheduled resources and a determination is made as to whether a mismatch between assigned and projected resources exists. A mismatch is recovered through an adaptive response that feeds back magnitudes for the communication resources which are compatible with the communication constraints.

Recovery from resource mismatch in a wireless communication system

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate indicating a dominant interferer to a target serving base station in a wireless communication environment. A mobile device can detect presence or absence of a dominant interferer. Further, an access probe that includes information related to the presence or absence of the dominant interferer can be generated. For example, the information can be included in a payload of the access probe as an explicit flag, an explicit indication of an interference level, a Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) value (e.g., reserved versus non-reserved, . . . ), etc. Moreover, the access probe can be transmitted to the target serving base station to initiate an access procedure. The target serving base station can select a time-frequency resource to be utilized for a responsive downlink transmission (e.g. access grant signal, subsequent access related message, . . . ) as a function of the information included in the access probe.

Dominant interferer indication in access probe

Techniques for performing adaptive resource partitioning are described. In one design, a node computes local metrics for different possible actions related to resource partitioning to allocate available resources to a set of nodes that includes the node. Each possible action is associated with a set of resource usage profiles for the set of nodes. The node sends the computed local metrics to at least one neighbor node in the set of nodes. The node also receives local metrics for the possible actions from the neighbor node(s). The node determines overall metrics for the possible actions based on the computed local metrics and the received local metrics. The node then determines allocation of the available resources to the set of nodes based on the overall metrics. For example, the node may select the action with the best overall metric and may utilize the available resources based on a resource usage profile for the selected action.

Adaptive resource partitioning in a wireless communication network

Techniques to transmit pilot on a CDMA segment on the reverse link in a wireless communication system are described. A terminal generates a scrambling sequence based on its pilot information. The pilot information may be used for the entire duration of a call by the terminal and for all sectors with which the terminal communicates during the call. The terminal generates pilot symbols based on the scrambling sequence, maps the pilot symbols to the CDMA segment, generates OFDM symbols with the mapped pilot symbols, and sends the OFDM symbols to one or more sectors. A base station processes received OFDM symbols to obtain received symbols for the CDMA segment. The base station generates the scrambling sequence based on the pilot information for the terminal and processes the received symbols with the scrambling sequence to obtain at least one parameter (e.g., received signal strength) for the terminal.

Reverse link pilot transmission for a wireless communication system

Techniques for transmitting pilot and traffic data are described. In one aspect, a terminal may scramble its pilot with a scrambling sequence generated based on a set of static and dynamic parameters. The static parameter(s) have fixed value for an entire communication session for the terminal. The dynamic parameter(s) have variable value during the communication session. The terminal may generate a scrambling sequence by hashing the set of parameters to obtain a seed and initializing a pseudo-random number (PN) generator with the seed. The terminal may then generate the pilot based on the scrambling sequence. In another aspect, the terminal may use different scrambling sequences for pilot and traffic data. A first scrambling sequence may be generated based on a first set of parameters and used to generate the pilot. A second scrambling sequence may be generated based on a second set of parameters and used to scramble traffic data.

Pilot transmission in a wireless communication system

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate defining control channels and resource identifiers related thereto as well as constraints for utilizing the control channels. A minimum number of required control reports for a set of resource indices can be specified as a constraint to provide a mobile device flexibility with respect to transmitting the control reports over available resource indices. Additionally, or alternatively, a maximum number of control reports can be specified for transmitted over the resource indices to prevent control channel overload. Moreover, a constraint can specify an exact number of control channels to utilize in transmitting control reports. Other constraints are possible as well, such as limiting a control report payload or change in payload, limiting out-of-band control reports based on in-band reports transmitted, etc.

Control channel constraints in wireless communications

Techniques for controlling transmit power of a terminal are described. The terminal may send a first transmission (e.g., for pilot or signaling) on the reverse link, receive feedback (e.g., a power control command or an erasure indicator) for the first transmission, and adjust a reference power level based on the feedback. The terminal may also receive interference information and possibly other parameters such as a pilot quality indicator (PQI), an offset factor, and a boost factor from a sector. The terminal may determine transmit power for a second transmission to the sector based on the interference information, the reference power level, and/or the other parameters. The terminal may receive the feedback from one sector and may send the second transmission with CDMA or OFDMA to the same sector or a different sector.

Power control for wireless communication systems

Techniques for transmitting data with short-term interference mitigation in a wireless communication system are described. In one design, a first station (e.g., a base station or a terminal) may send a first message to at least one interfering station to request reduction of interference on at least one resource. The first station may send the first message in anticipation of receiving data on the at least one resource. An interfering station may receive the first message from the first station and may reduce interference on the at least one resource by reducing its transmit power and/or by steering its power in a direction different from the first station. The first station may thereafter receive data from a second station on the at least one resource. The techniques may be used for data transmission on the forward and reverse links.

Interference reduction request in a wireless communication system

Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate soft handoff and enhanced performance in a wireless communication environment. In multiple access systems, access points assign certain resources (e.g., time, frequency, code) to each terminal. This assignment information can also be provided to neighboring sectors, allowing such sectors to receive and decode terminal transmissions. The information can be provided via backhaul signaling. Decoding by sectors within the active set of the terminal facilitates smooth transition as terminals move between sectors during soft handoff. In addition, sectors can signal successful receipt and decoding of transmissions, avoiding redundant processing.

Techniques for transmitting data with short-term interference mitigation in a wireless communication system are described. In one design, a serving base station may send a message to a terminal to trigger short-term interference mitigation. In response, the terminal may send a message to request at least one interfering base station to reduce interference on at least one resource. Each interfering base station may determine a transmit power level to be used for the at least one resource and may send a pilot at this transmit power level. The terminal may estimate the channel quality of the at least one resource based on at least one pilot received from the at least one interfering base station. The terminal may send information indicative of the estimated channel quality to the serving base station. The serving base station may send a data transmission on the at least one resource to the terminal.

Short-term interference mitigation in a wireless communication system

Techniques for transmitting data with short-term interference mitigation in a wireless communication system are described. In one design, a first station (e.g., a base station or a terminal) may receive a message sent by a second station to request reduction of interference on at least one resource. In response to receiving the message, the first station may determine a first transmit power level to use for the at least one resource based on one or more factors such as a priority metric sent in the message, the buffer size at the first station, etc. The first station may send a power decision pilot on the at least one resource at a second transmit power level determined based on the first transmit power level.

Techniques for performing resource partitioning are described. In an aspect, adaptive resource partitioning may be performed to dynamically allocate available resources for the uplink to nodes, e.g., base stations. Each node may be assigned a list of target interference-over-thermal (IoT) levels for the available resources by the adaptive resource partitioning. Each node may obtain a list of target IoT levels for itself and at least one list of target IoT levels for at least one neighbor node. The list of target IoT levels for each node may include a configurable target IoT level on each available resource for the node. Each node may schedule its UEs for transmission on the available resources (e.g., may determine transmit power levels and rates for the UEs) based on the target IoT levels for itself and the neighbor node(s) such that the target IoT levels for the neighbor node(s) can be met.

Resource partitioning for uplink in a wireless communication network

Techniques for sending resource requests in a wireless communication system are described. Multiple types of quality of service (QoS) information may be supported for resource requests and may include QoS class and latency deadline. A terminal may have data to send on the reverse link and may determine QoS information for the data. The QoS information may include at least one QoS type, which may be dependent on a configuration selected for use to send resource requests. The terminal may also determine backlog level information indicative of the amount of data to send. The terminal may generate a resource request with the backlog level and QoS information. The resource request may include the backlog level information and QoS class information, the backlog level information and either QoS class information or latency deadline information, the backlog level information and latency deadline information, or some other combination of information.

Resource requests for a wireless communication system

Providing for improved access communication for wireless systems is described herein. By way of example, wireless devices can employ wireless resource re-use in selecting a subset of access communication resources, to mitigate interference on uplink access requests. Re-use can be based on current network conditions, or on a type of base station facilitating the wireless communication. In some aspects, planned resource re-use can be facilitated by an access terminal. The access terminal requests neighboring or interfering network access points to reserve a set of resources for a serving access point. Reserved resources can be conveyed to the serving access point with an uplink access probe, to further mitigate interference.

Access mechanisms for base stations in heterogeneous access point networks

Techniques for performing power control and handoff are described. In an aspect, power control (PC) is supported with multiple PC modes such as an up-down PC mode and an erasure-based PC mode. One PC mode may be selected for use. Signaling may be sent to indicate the selected PC mode. If the up-down PC mode is selected, then a base station estimates the received signal quality for a terminal and sends PC commands to direct the terminal to adjust its transmit power. If the erasure-based PC mode is selected, then the base station sends erasure indications that indicate whether codewords received from the terminal are erased or non-erased. For both PC modes, the terminal adjusts its transmit power based on the power control feedback (e.g., PC commands and/or erasure indications) to achieve a target level of performance (e.g., a target erasure rate for the codewords). The erasure indications may also be used for handoff.
