A method of making high performance concrete, the method may include adding ground glass powder (GP), nanosilica (nS) powder, cement, silica fume, fly ash, and sand to create a homogenized mixture. The method may also include homogenizing the mixture by mixing and adding water and superplasticizer to the homogenized mixture to obtain a slurry. The method may also include mixing the slurry until a high flowability mixture is obtained. The method may then include adding a first microsteel fiber (T1) to the high flowability mixture; adding a second microsteel fiber (T3) to the high flowability mixture; adding a third microsteel fiber (T4) to the high flowability mixture; and casting the high flowability mixture.

Concrete composition including nanosilica derived from glass waste

A method of making nanosilica from glass, the method comprising: gathering glass waste; grinding the glass waste to obtain a glass powder containing nanoparticles; adding the glass powder containing the nanoparticles to a water solution comprising a dispersing agent to obtain a colloidal system containing nanoparticles; separating the nanoparticles from the colloidal system to obtain separated nanoparticles; and drying the separated nanoparticles to obtain nanosilica.

Method for making nanosilica from glass waste

The present disclosure relates to a method of making nanoparticles from glass, the method including: gathering glass waste; hammering the glass waste into ready to grind pieces; adding an amount of the ready to grind pieces into a grinding bowl; adding steel balls to the grinding bowl; grinding the ready to grind pieces; and obtaining a powder containing the nanoparticles.

Effective method for producing glass waste powder as a precursor for the production of nanosilica

An ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) including empty quarter desert sand (EQS) and micro-steel fibers (HyTUHPC). The ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) can have a high viscosity due to the presence of EQS.

Ultra-high-performance concrete

The cementitious mixture includes cement with a concentration of between about 5 wt % and about 20 wt %; powdered glass with a concentration of between about 5 wt % and about 35 wt %; fly ash with a concentration of between about 20 wt % and about 40 wt %; sand with a concentration of between about 18 wt % and about 25 wt %; a poly(carboxylate ether)-based superplasticizer with a concentration of between about 0.8 wt % and about 1.2 wt %; and water with a concentration of between about 14 wt % and about 16 wt %. Alternatively, the fly ash may be replaced with ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS). The powdered glass is preferably powdered recycled glass cullet. The glass cullet may be ground to have an average particle size of about 10 μm or less. The sand may be red dune sand, and the cement may be Portland cement or white cement. The cementitious may also include polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) microfibers.

Cementitious mixture and method of making the same

The low cement content strain-hardening cementitious composite is cement with a natural pozzolan replacing a significant portion of the Portland cement therein. The strain-hardening cementitious composite includes a mixture of cement, fly ash, sand, a polycarboxylic ether-based superplasticizer, and reinforcing polyvinyl alcohol fibers. The mixture is formed with a low content of Portland cement (6-12 wt %) and with ground scoria as the natural pozzolan (5-20%). The sand forms at least 22 wt % of the strain-hardening cementitious composite and is preferably in the form of sieved dune sand, having a silicon dioxide concentration of between approximately 80 and 90 wt %, and a feldspar concentration of between approximately 10 and 20 wt %. The dune sand is sieved such that the sand grains have a median diameter of less than or equal to approximately 300 &#x3bc;m, and preferably have a median diameter of approximately 200 &#x3bc;m.

Low cement content strain-hardening cementitious composite

The EAFD stabilizer for returned concrete and mixer drum wash water includes various methods of using EAFD as a stabilizer in making concrete. The potentially hazardous stockpile of EAFD can be used in practical construction, which has a positive impact on the environment. A certain amount of EAFD is added to cement being mixed or to wash water and acts as a stabilizer, the wash water being used to make a cement mixture. This resultant EAFD stabilized concrete mixture stabilizes overnight.

The present invention contemplates a cementitious additive that contains electric-arc furnace dust (EAFD) and a precursor as a replacement for up to about 30% of the cement in concrete. The additive includes about 50% by weight EAFD and about 50 wgt. % of precursor. The precursor includes about 55 wgt. % silica, about 10 to 20 wgt. % lime, about 2 to 5 wgt. % soda, about 5 to 15 wgt. % potash, about 2 to 6 wgt. % alumina and about 1 to 3 wgt. % magnesia. The method also contemplates the step of homogenizing the electric-arc furnace dust (EAFD) and precursor to produce engineered dust (ED) and then replacing up to 30% of the cement with a mixture referred to as ED i.e. homogenized EAFD and precursor.

The method of obtaining simulated pore water includes: mixing cement with a quantity of water and waiting a period of time for water-soluble salts in the cement to dissolve; filtering the mixture; evaporating an aliquot of the filtrate; weighing solids obtained by evaporating the aliquot to determine total dissolved solids or salts in the aliquot; weighing the remaining filtrate and measuring its volume; determining the mass of total dissolved solids in the remaining filtrate; determining the mass of water in remaining filtrate; determining the mass of water that would be in the remaining filtrate if the mix had been prepared with a desired W/C ratio; evaporating any difference between the mass of the remaining filtrate and the mass that would be present at the desired W/C; and collecting the filtrate remaining as simulated pore water for the desired W/C ratio which may be used for a variety of different applications.

Method of obtaining simulated pore water

A strain-hardening cementitious composite (SHCC) can include cement, fly ash (FA), dune sand (DS), and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers. The amount of DS in the SHCC can be at least 25% by weight. The cement can be Type I ordinary Portland cement, conforming to ASTM C150 specifications. The fly ash can be Class F fly ash (FA). The median particle size of the cement can be 14 &#x3bc;m. The median particle size of the FA can be 10 &#x3bc;m.

Strain-hardening cementitious composite

The system for measuring permeation properties of concrete and porous materials includes a chamber having an upper plate, a lower plate, and a plurality of support members, the chamber being configured for holding a specimen. A plurality of supply tubes and a plurality of discharge tubes are in fluid communication with the chamber. A gas flow measurement assembly is in fluid communication with the chamber, the gas flow measurement assembly having a first pressure gauge and a gas flow meter. A water flow measurement assembly is in fluid communication with the chamber, the water flow measurement assembly having a second pressure gauge and a water flow meter. A gas cylinder is in fluid communication with the one of the plurality of supply tubes. The system may be used to measure gas permeability, water permeability, porosity, and absorption of concrete and other porous materials.

System and method for measuring permeation properties of concrete and porous materials

The fire resistant cementitious composite is an engineered cementitious composite (EEC) having both flexural strength and fire resistant properties. The fire resistant cementitious composite includes a binder mixture formed from Portland cement and fly ash, sand, polyvinyl alcohol fibers, a polycarboxylic ether polymer and water. In the binder mixture, a weight ratio of the fly ash to the Portland cement is between approximately 1.0 and approximately 1.3. A weight ratio of the Portland cement to the sand is between approximately 0.85 and approximately 1.0. A weight ratio of the water to the binder mixture is between approximately 0.28 and approximately 0.33. The sand is preferably Arabian Gulf dune sand.

Fire resistant cementitious composite and method of making the same

The synthetic aggregate for use in concrete is a composite material of recycled plastic having a filler encapsulated in the plastic. The synthetic aggregate includes between 30% and 50% recycled shredded plastic, the balance being filler. The plastic may be linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). The filler can include red sand, fly ash and quarry fines. The synthetic aggregate is best used to make concrete with a water-to-cement ratio of at least 0.5. A method of making the synthetic aggregate includes the steps of mixing plastic with filler to form a homogenized mixture, compressing the homogenized mixture in a mold, melting the plastic in the homogenized mixture to form a composite sheet or slab, and shredding the composite sheet or slab to form either coarse or fine aggregates for use in making concrete.
