The method, apparatus and system of a single-stage current-fed clamped series resonant power factor corrected (PFC) converter CF-CSRC provides power conversion and current regulation. The CF-CSRC system may be implemented in a single-stage isolated topology for high efficiency unity power factor correction (PFC) converter applications. Moreover, the CF-CSRC system combines the intrinsic advantages of the classical clamped series resonant converter while mitigating drawbacks by using an integrated boost input current shaper.

An LED driver circuit includes a primary circuit and a circuit electrically isolated from the primary circuit, a transformer having a primary winding configured to receive power from an alternating current source and to generate power in a first secondary winding configured to provide power to the electrically isolated circuit, and to generate power in a second secondary winding configured to provide power to the primary circuit, and a conductor connected to an end of the first secondary winding and configured to connect a winding driver signal to the first secondary winding to generate power in the second secondary winding.

A method for operating illumination sources includes receiving a first set of images of one or more illumination sources that are generated by an image capturing device. The method further includes computing a first distance and a first perspective angle between the image capturing device and each illumination source during the generation of the first set of images. Furthermore, the method includes generating first characteristic information for each illumination source based on a comparison between at least one of the first distance or the first perspective angle for each illumination source with at least one of a predefined distance or a predefined perspective angle for each illumination source. The method also includes generating a command signal based on a comparison between the first characteristic information and a predefined characteristic threshold for each of the one or more illumination sources.

A driver for an LED lamp assembly includes a rectifier configured to receive an AC power and produce a first DC power and a switching regulator coupled to the rectifier. The switching regulator is configured to receive the first DC power and produce an output DC power. The driver also includes a current controller coupled between the rectifier and the switching regulator. The current controller is configured to damp and stabilize an electric current flowing between the switching regulator and the rectifier.

An improved LED traffic signal is provided. The LED traffic signal suitably includes a housing with an opening, a printed circuit board coupled to the housing, and a power supply system coupled to the printed circuit board. The power supply system includes a power supply module that receives an AC input voltage from an AC input line and transforms the AC input voltage into a DC voltage with a regulated current to power the LED load, and a synchronized power pulse circuit connected to the power supply that generates a synchronized power pulse representing a power consumption substantially equivalent to that of a halogen or incandescent traffic signal.

In accordance with one aspect of the present exemplary embodiment, an LED lamp is provided. In one embodiment, the LED lamp is made to be mounted in a traffic signal housing that includes other lamps, where the LED lamp can be red, yellow, green or another color and can represent a full ball aspect, an arrow aspect or another aspect. The LED lamp is adapted to be powered by an external power source and includes an input power circuit receiving an input voltage from the external power source. The input power circuit includes a power detection circuit that is adapted to determine a power state of the traffic LED lamp. The LED lamp further includes an LED load and a battery powered driving circuit. The battery power driving circuit drives the LED load if the power state of the LED lamp is in a power failure state.

An apparatus and method for testing an independent monitoring circuit in an LED traffic signal is provided. The apparatus comprises: a proof test circuit embedded within the traffic signal; and a proof test device embedded within the traffic signal. The method comprises: via the proof test circuit, simulating a faulty traffic signal state; activating the independent monitoring circuit without switching the traffic signal into a high impedance state; energizing the proof test device; and via the proof test device, communicating externally the current state of the independent monitoring circuit.

Apparatus and method for reducing failures in traffic signals

A light source with substantially constant intensity and power consumption is provided. The light source includes a controllable dc voltage and current source; a non-linear light-emitting load supplied with dc voltage and current from the controllable dc voltage and current source; a current sense circuit connected in series with the non-linear light-emitting load; a variable LED forward voltage (varying with temperature, binning batch, aging) sensor circuit; a multiplier operative to measure a power-representative signal; and a power consumption control feedback circuit through which the dc voltage and current source is controlled in relation to the variable forward voltage representative signal to adjust the dc voltage and then a current to amplitudes that keep the light intensity and power consumption produced by the light source substantially constant.

Power control circuit and method

A signal is described herein that provides light output for automotive, rail, ship traffic and/or illumination control that includes a light emitting diode (LED) array, wherein the LED array includes three groups of disparate colored LEDs. A power supply unit provides independent power to each of the three LED groups. Each LED group power supply unit includes an input controlled switch connected to a power line to provide power to the LED array. An input under voltage/over voltage circuit monitors the voltage level of the power line and for enabling and/or disables the input controlled switch according to the voltage level of the power line. A flyback transformer converts the power received from the power line from an alternating or a continuous current signal to a direct current signal output to the LED array. A dummy load draws power additional to the LED array and a dummy load detection circuit monitors the dummy load to insure that the power drawn by the load is greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold. A light out detection circuit monitors the light output of the LED array via an optical sensor.
