A cleaning system and method use an ultrasound probe, a coupling mechanism, and a controller to clean equipment of a vehicle system. The ultrasound probe enters into an engine. The ultrasound probe emits ultrasound pulses and the coupling mechanism provides an ultrasound coupling medium between the ultrasound probe and one or more components of the engine. The controller drives the ultrasound probe to deliver the ultrasound pulse through the coupling medium to a surface of the one or more components of the engine. The ultrasound probe delivers the ultrasound pulse to remove deposits from the one or more components of the engine.

An embodiment of a method for lifespan modeling for a turbine engine component includes determining a design-phase model of the lifespan of an turbine engine component; fusing the design-phase model with sensor data collected during operation of the turbine engine component to produce an updated model of the lifespan of the turbine engine component; and fusing the updated model with data collected during an inspection of the turbine engine component to produce an overall model of the lifespan of the turbine engine component. A process of forming an encapsulated magnet assembly is provided, the process comprising welding a second portion of a housing cover formed of a non-magnetic material to a first portion of a housing cover formed of a magnetic material to provide a welded housing cover and subsequently heat-treating the welded housing cover at a temperature effective to relieve weld stress; disposing a magnet within a housing comprising at least one wall formed of the non-magnetic material and defining at least one aperture; and welding the heat treated welded housing cover to the housing such that the second portion of the housing cover is fixedly attached to the housing wall to hermetically seal the aperture. In one embodiment, the magnet of the encapsulated magnet assembly is a permanent magnet, and in an alternate embodiment an electromagnet. In one embodiment the encapsulated magnet assembly is a component of a stator-rotor assembly.

The present invention provides an encapsulated magnet assembly, comprising (a) a magnet disposed within a housing, said housing comprising at least one wall and defining at least one aperture; and (b) a housing cover; the housing cover comprising a first portion made of a magnetic material and a second portion made of a non-magnetic material, wherein the housing cover is configured to hermetically seal said aperture, the first portion being fixedly attached to the second portion wherein a point of attachment is heat treated; and wherein the housing wall is formed of the non-magnetic material and is fixedly attached to the second portion of the housing cover. In one embodiment, the magnet of the encapsulated magnet assembly is a permanent magnet, and in an alternate embodiment an electromagnet. In one embodiment the encapsulated magnet assembly is a component of a stator-rotor assembly.

A method is provided of reducing lockout time of a gas turbine engine which includes: an inlet, a compressor, a combustor, a turbine, and an exhaust duct, where the compressor and the turbine are carried on a turbomachinery rotor and each include an array of blades mounted for rotation inside a casing of the engine. The method includes: operating the engine at a first power output; shutting down operation of the engine without substantially reducing the power output beforehand, wherein thermomechanical changes occur in the engine subsequent to shutdown that tend to reduce a radial clearance between at least one of the blades and the casing; and subsequent to shutting down the engine, (1) heating the casing and/or (2) pumping an airflow of ambient air into the inlet and through the casing, past the rotor, and out the exhaust duct, so as to reverse at least partially the thermomechanical changes.

Rotor and stator assemblies that utilize magnetic bearings for supporting the rotor shaft during operation can be suitably used in corrosive environments, such as sour gas. The rotor and stator assemblies include NACE compliant magnetic bearing arrangements for sour gas applications. One embodiment includes a stator assembly that comprises a stator sleeve formed of a magnetic material, a sleeve extender coaxial to the stator sleeve formed of a non-magnetic material fixedly attached to each end of the stator sleeve, wherein a point of attachment is heat treated, and a wall formed of the non-magnetic material fixedly attached to the sleeve extender configured to hermetically house a stator and form the encapsulated stator assembly.

A wind turbine system includes a wind turbine generator having a rotor and a nacelle mounted atop wind tower. The wind tower is mounted on a central caisson. The wind turbine system further includes a plurality of tensioned mooring lines flexibly secured to the central caisson. The mooring lines are further secured to a plurality of anchors fixed on to a sea bed. The anchors are adapted to support lateral loads on the wind turbine system.

System and method for installing a wind turbine at an offshore location

The gas turbines of the present invention have multiple combustion chambers, and within each chamber are multiple fuel nozzles. Each nozzle has its own fuel control valve to control the fuel flowing to the nozzles. To minimize the pressure drop through the fuel control valves, multiple manifolds are employed. Each manifold supplies at least one fuel nozzle in multiple combustion chambers with fuel. The fuel control valves are mounted on the manifolds such that the weight of the fuel control valves and nozzles are carried by the manifolds, not the multiple combustion chambers. A plurality of thermocouples for measuring exhaust gas from said multiple combustion chambers are employed to sense gas exhaust temperature. In carrying out the methods of the present invention for tuning a gas turbine, it is essential to note that the most efficient gas turbine is one which has the least nitrous oxides, the least amount of unburned hydrocarbons, and the least amount of carbon monoxide for a specified energy output. In order to tune the gas turbine to accomplish these objectives, it is desirable that each combustion chamber in the gas turbine be well balanced relative to the remaining combustion chambers. It is an aim of the present invention to tune each of the multiple combustion chambers such that no specific combustion chamber is rich or lean, and all are operating within about 1% of the remaining combustion chambers.
