A scheme for providing programs to multiple end user devices. Two types of media streams that convey a first group of programs are provided to multiple end user devices via an edge device. The two types of programs include a unicast media stream and a multicast media stream. When a request from a first end user device to view a first program that belongs to the first group of programs is received, a type of a media stream that conveys the first program to a second end user device is selectively switched, in response to bandwidth constraints imposed on a communication path coupled to the edge device.

The method includes: receiving a display power consumption level indicator; determining, in response to the display power consumption level indicator, whether a program that is sent to a signal converter that is coupled to the display, is being displayed on the display; and transmitting to a remote system, by the signal converter, and in response to the determining, a program viewing indicator.

A system, method and computer program product, the method includes: locating within a media stream video of interest that starts at a random access point and ends at a packet associated with timing information that corresponds to a decoding time stamp of the random access point; modifying the video of interest to provide modified video of interest; wherein the modifying comprises modifying timing information associated with a beginning of the random access point to reflect a difference between the decoding time stamp and a transmission duration of the modified video of interest to a user; receiving a request, from the user, to perform a channel change and start receiving a channel that comprises the modified video of interest; and transmitting to the user the modified video of interest.
