A fiber-reinforced foamed material comprises a foamed body of a resin having a flexural elasticity modulus not smaller than 150 kg/mm.sup.2, reinforcement fibers, and a bonding component through which the reinforcement fibers are integrated with the foamed body so as to reinforce the foamed body. A method for producing a fiber-reinforced foamed material comprises the steps of: providing a material having a potential foamability; providing a composite fibrous material in the form of composite fibers and/or composite yarns each having a first component and a second component; and allowing the foamable material to foam together with the composite fibers or composite yarns at a temperature 10.degree. C. or more higher than the thermal deformation temperature or melting temperature of the first component and 20.degree. C. or more lower than the thermal deformation temperature or melting temperature of the second component, whereby the first component is thermally deformed or melted to serve as a bonding component, while the second component remains as a fibrous reinforcement component, the fibrous reinforcement component being integrated with the foamed body through the bonding component so as to reinforce the foamed body.

The invention relates to the alternate high-molecular arrangements manufactured through apparatus wherein the layers of at least two component high-molecular fluids are formed into layers and so combined with another high-molecular fluid that the former's layers intersect the latter's and the combined flow of the layers is divided into a number of layers. In accordance with the invention, islands in alternate high-molecular arrangements can be increased to a high ratio easily and economically.

The present invention relates to an artificial vascular graft having ultra fine fibers smaller than 0.5 denier in fineness as part of the inner wall. The artificial vascular graft of this invention is very flexible and produces very low blood leakage. The ease of performing anastomoses is greatly improved. Because of the ultra fine fiber there are many sites to which live cells adhere, the adaptability of the live cells to the fibers of the vascular graft increases, an excellent antithrombotic effect is exerted by the vascular graft, and the formation of the endothelial cells is satisfactory and is observed at a very early stage.

Alternate high-molecule arrangement production process

Improved ultrafine sheath-core composite fibers and composite sheets composed of these fibers are disclosed. The composite fibers have a fineness of 0.0001 to 0.5 denier and comprises 10 to 70% of the core having a very high intrinsic viscosity within a specific range and being located at the center of the sheath and 90 to 30% of the sheath composed of a polyester copolymerized 1.5 to 8 mole %, based on the total acid component, of 5-sodium (or lithium or potassium) sulfoisophthalate and having a thickness of 0.04 to 2 microns. The composite fibers have a high strength and are dyeable with a cationic dye. When the composite fibers are combined with an elastic material such as polyurethane, suede-like artificial leathers having excellent softness, touch, feel and color can be obtained.

Ultrafine sheath-core composite fibers and composite sheets made thereof

Improved ultrafine sheath-core composite fibers and composite sheets composed of these fibers are disclosed. The composite fibers have a fineness in the range of 0.0001 to 0.5 denier and a core/sheath weight ratio in the range of 10/90 to 70/30. The core has a very high intrinsic viscosity within a specific range and is located at the center of the sheath. The sheath is composed of a polyester copolymerized with 1.5 to 8 mole % of 5-sodium (or lithium or potassium) sulfoisophthalate, based on the total acid component, of 5-sodium (or lithium or potassium) sulfoisophthalate and having a thickness of 0.04 to 2 microns. The composite fibers have a high strength and are dyeable with a cationic dye. When the composite fibers are combined with an elastic material such as polyurethane, suede-like artificial leathers having excellent softness, touch, feel and color can be obtained.

The present invention relates to an artificial grain leather having different color spot groups comprised of ultra fine fibers, in which at least one side of the fibrous substrate has two types of colors differing in hue and/or lightness value and being covered with transparent resin layers. The present invention produces a three-dimensional surface effect and a grain pattern effect, and is recognized as consisting of a mixture of ultra fine fibers each being quite different in color from the next, though providing the appearance of a single color from a distance, and producing a subdued and rich appearance as a result of the integration of colors by the color of a coating layer.

Melange-colored sheet and method. The sheet has an inner portion having ultrafine fiber bundles and/or multi-core fibers. The surface of the sheet is composed of super-entangled ultrafine fibers and/or fine bundles of ultrafine fibers of different colors, branched from the fibers of the inner portion, so that the surface presents a melange-colored effect of at least two colors.
