A head mount display includes a first frame, a display, a second frame, and a junction. The display is mountable on the first frame. The second frame is configured to be pivotably connected to the first frame and includes a circuit module. The circuit module includes a power circuit configured to supply power to the display. The junction is configured to electrically connect the display and the circuit module.

A head mounted display capable of displaying necessary and sufficient number of display information in an easily viewable manner even when a large number of identifying objects are detected is provided. A see-through-type head mounted display includes a display unit which is configured to project image light corresponding to display information onto an eye of a user thus allowing the user to visually recognize an image corresponding to the image light while allowing an external light to pass therethrough. The head mounted display selects identifying objects about which associated information associated with the identifying objects are displayed by the display unit based on a result detected within an imaging area. The head mounted display displays the selected associated information associated with the identifying objects in association with the identifying objects which are visually recognized by the user through the display unit in a see-through manner.

An image display device for optically displaying an image is disclosed. This device includes: a light source; an imaging-light generator converting light emitted from the light source, into imaging light representative of the image to be displayed to a viewer, to thereby generate the imaging light; and an exit-pupil controlling unit configured to control a position of an exit pupil of the image display device. The exit-pupil controlling unit includes: an electrically controllable element configured to diffract the imaging light incoming from the imaging-light generator, at an electrically-variable diffraction angle; and a controller configured to electrically control the diffraction angle of diffracted light emitted from the electrically controllable element, to thereby control the position of the exit pupil.

An image display device for optically displaying an image is disclosed. This device includes: a light source; an imaging-light generator converting light emitted from the light source, into imaging light representative of the image to be displayed, to thereby generate the imaging light; a relay optical system focusing the imaging light emitted from the imaging-light generator, on an image plane which is located at an optically conjugate position to the imaging-light generator, the relay optical system defining a pupil through which the imaging light passes, within the relay optical system; a variable-focus lens disposed at a position generally coincident with the pupil, the variable-focus lens having a varying focal length; and a wavefront-curvature adjuster configured to vary the focal length by operating the variable-focus lens, to thereby adjust a wavefront curvature of the imaging light emitted from the relay optical system.

A retinal scanning display device is disclosed which is configured to include: a light source emitting a light beam; a scanner scanning onto a viewer's retina the light beam emitted from the light source; a light exit at which the light beam scanned by the scanner exits the retinal scanning display device; and a pupil expanding element operable to expand an exit pupil of the retinal scanning display device. The pupil expanding element may be disposed at a position which is offset from an intermediate image plane occurring between the light source and the light exit, along and within an optical path defined between the light source and the light exit.

The present invention provides an optical system that can reduce the occurrence of aberration, and a scanning retinal display that uses such an optical system. A first diffraction section and the second diffraction section are attached to a light guiding section in a state separated from each other. The first diffraction section diffracts light flux that is incident on it, to be incident on the light guiding section. The light guiding section guides light flux that has been diffracted by the first diffraction section to the second diffraction section using reflection inside the light guiding section. The second diffraction section re-diffracts light flux that has been guided by the light guiding section and output externally of the light guiding section. The first diffraction section, the light guiding section, and the second diffraction section are substantially symmetrical, either side of a virtual plane between the first diffraction section and the second diffraction section.

A retinal image scanning device is provided with at least one light source that emits a light beam, an intensity modulating system that modulates the intensity of the light beam emitted by said at least one light source in accordance with a video signal, an optical system that directs the light beam to a pupil of an observer, a scanning system that scans the light beam in a first direction and in a second direction which is substantially perpendicular to the first direction so that a two-dimensional image frame defined by the first and second directions is formed on a retinal of the observer, and a wavefront curvature modulating system that modulates a wavefront curvature of the light beam when the light beam is scanned in at least one of the first direction and the second direction.

An optical scanner is disclosed which includes: a first scanning device having a first mirror portion in which a first reflective surface is formed, the first scanning device scanning in a first direction, light which impinges obliquely on the first reflective surface, by oscillatory rotation of the first mirror portion about a first oscillation axi; and a second scanning device having a second mirror portion in which a second reflective surface is formed so as to be generally in parallel to the first reflective surface in a non-active state of the optical scanner, the second scanning device scanning in a second direction intersecting with respect to the first direction, the light exiting the first reflective surface and then entering obliquely the second reflective surface, by oscillatory rotation of the second mirror portion about a second oscillation axis intersecting with respect to the first oscillation axis. The first oscillation axis is oriented substantially parallel to a direction in which the light enters the first reflective surface, when the optical scanner is viewed in a direction perpendicular to the first and second reflective surfaces.

An apparatus for use in image display, of projecting a light beam onto a retina of a viewer, to thereby allow the viewer to perceive an image, is disclosed. The apparatus is constructed to include: a light emitter emitting a light beam; a scanner scanning the light beam emitted by the light emitter; an optical system receiving the light beam scanned by the scanner as an incoming light beam, and emitting the received incoming light beam as an outgoing light beam, such that, upon modulation of the light beam with respect to a traveling direction of the light beam, the outgoing light beam is directed to a pupil of the viewer; and a curvature compensator compensating a wavefront curvature of the incoming light beam.

An apparatus for introducing a light beam into a pupil of an eye of a viewer, to thereby project an image onto a retina of the eye is disclosed, in which a light beam generator generates and outputs a light beam corresponding to the image, a scanning device scans the light beam output by the light beam generator, a guiding device guides the light beam scanned by the scanning device toward the pupil, and an angle modifying device modifies a pupil incident angle at which a center line of a scanning angle of the scanning device enters the pupil.

In an optical scanning device, a housinghas a spacein the inside thereof. A floating rotational plateis housed in the space, and is caused to float and to rotate by a magnetic force. The floating rotational platehas an optical deflection layerthereon. A diffraction gratingis formed on the optical deflection layeron and around the center axis Z of the floating rotational plate. When a beam of light falls incident on the diffraction gratingin a direction normal to the surface of the optical deflection layer, the diffraction gratingdiffracts the light in a radius direction of the circular-shaped floating rotational plate. The light is transmitted through optical waveguidesandto be emitted outside from the housing. By rotating the small-sized floating rotational plateat a high speed inside the housing, it is possible to scan the light at a high speed and with a high resolution.

The image forming apparatus is provided with: a developer retainer formed with a number of fine through-holes retaining liquid developer; and a photosensitive drum that forms images thereon. The photosensitive drum is formed with an electrically-charged latent image on its surface. When the liquid developer retained in the developer retainer approaches the latent image, the liquid surface of the liquid developer is attracted toward the photosensitive drum surface, by the electric field, at regions where the positively-charged latent image exists. As a result, the liquid developer adheres to the latent image. At regions where no latent image is formed, due to the wettability of the mesh wall with respect to the liquid developer, the liquid level is maintained as being fixed. Accordingly, the liquid developer does not adhere to the portion where no latent image is formed. The adhesion of the liquid developer only onto the portion where the latent image is formed develops the latent image into a visible image.
