Disclosed is a steering column apparatus including an impact energy absorbing mechanism for absorbing an impact energy at a secondary collision. The impact energy absorbing mechanism includes an energy absorbing section that serves as a load generating section for absorbing the impact energy. The energy absorbing section includes (a) a resistive member that extends along an axial direction of the middle jacket and is fixed to the middle jacket and (b) a wire having a bent portion that is wound around the resistive member to have a curvature and a front portion that is fixed to the upper jacket, the front portion being at a more forward position than the bent portion.

An electric telescopic steering apparatus includes a jacket having a lower jacket and an upper jacket in order to telescope the jacket; and a screw shaft arranged along a longitudinal direction of the jacket and held under a rotation-locked state. The screw shaft includes one end portion supported by one of the lower jacket and the upper jacket. The electric telescopic steering apparatus further includes a nut screwed on another end portion of the screw shaft and supported by another of the lower jacket and the upper jacket; a driving section configured to drive a rotation of the nut; and a displacement absorbing section provided between the one end portion of the screw shaft and the jacket. The displacement absorbing section is configured to permit the one end portion of the screw shaft to be displaced on an X-Y plane defined by an imaginary X-axis and an imaginary Y-axis which are substantially perpendicular to an axis of the screw shaft, and configured to permit an angle of the axis of the screw shaft to vary about the X-axis and the Y-axis.

Electric telescopic steering apparatus

Provided is a steering column system capable of firmly holding a jacket during a normal condition and securing a larger movement stroke for the jacket when an excessive impact force is applied. To this end, when a clamp bolt () is fastened, sliding contact portions () are pressed to abutment parts (), respectively. Thus, a jacket () is firmly clamped to and held by a mount bracket (). When a force in excess of a predetermined value is applied to the jacket () in its axial direction, shear portions () break, and thereby a restraint imposed on a movement range by restraint portions () is lifted. This contracts the jacket ().

Steering column system

A drive plate (E) for an automotive vehicle for transmitting a torque from a crankshaft (6) to a torque converter (7), while absorbing a thrust load applied from the torque converter to the crankshaft is formed with: a central mount portion (11) for mounting a crankshaft; an outer gear (20) formed in an outermost circumference of the drive plate; a plurality of weight reducing holes (30) formed between the central mount portion and the outer gear at regular angular intervals; and a plurality of the outer mount portions (12) for mounting a torque converter (7) formed near an outer circumference of the drive plate at regular angular intervals. In particular, the outer mount portions (12) are formed in such a way as to project radially inward from the outer gear (20) into the weight reducing holes (30), respectively. Since the virtual bending radius (deformation length L) of the drive plate can be increased, the bending angle (DA1) can be reduced when a thrust load is applied from the torque converter to the drive plate, so that it is possible to reduce a bending stress concentrated at the central mount portion (11) as small as possible, for prevention of the drive plate from being damaged.
