A method of driving a plasma display panel including a plurality of scanning electrodes covered with a dielectric layer, and a plurality of sustaining electrodes covered with a dielectric layer, including the steps of (a) applying scanning pulses in time-division to the scanning electrodes in an addressing period in which a cell or cells emitting light is(are) selected, and applying sustaining pulses to the sustaining electrodes in a sustaining period for generating preliminary discharge and preliminary erasing discharge before the cell or cells emitting light is(are) selected, and (b) applying a serrate pulse to the scanning or sustaining electrodes when the preliminary erasing discharge is generated, the serrate pulse having an inclination smaller than 10 V/&#x3bc;s, wherein a period of time until the generation of the preliminary erasing discharge from the termination of the preliminary discharge is set shorter than 3T where T indicates a decay time constant of priming particles.

Method of driving plasma display panel

A plasma display panel includes display cells disposed in matrix at cross points of a plurality of common electrodes and a plurality of data electrodes. In each of the display cells, data writing discharge and sustaining discharge are performed to emit light. Brightness is controlled by applying a sustaining pulse having a frequency higher than &mgr; V/(&pgr;d ) between the sustaining electrodes, where &mgr; is an ion mobility of the discharge gas filled in the display cell, V is a maximum value of the applied voltage, and d is a distance between the sustaining electrodes performing the sustaining discharge.

A PDP driving method, in which a stable writing discharge can be realized by using a scanning pulse whose width is narrow without changing a structure of the panel and an image having high light emitting luminance can be realized in the large number of scanning lines, is provided. When a scanning pulse is applied to scanning electrodes, a writing discharge is generated at all of display cells. Electric charge particles generated by the writing discharge at the display cells are supplied to display cells on the next scanning line by diffusion. The writing discharge is stably generated in high speed at the next scanning line when a scanning pulse is applied to the next scanning line by receiving the electric charge particles, consequently, the width of the scanning pulse can be made to be narrow. In order that the writing discharge is generated at display cells, which do not shift to a sustaining discharge, a sub scanning pulse being negative polarity is applied to common electrodes.

A front glass substrate and a back glass substrate are disposed, confronting each other to interpose a certain space therebetween. A discharge gas is enclosed within the space. The space is divided into a plural of display cells and a plural of priming discharge cells. Display data write and sustaining discharges for displaying an image are caused in display cells by priming effects from priming discharge cells. Display cell electrodes control discharges at display cells. A pair of priming discharge electrodes for causing discharges in priming discharge cells is provided independently of display cell electrodes, and is driven independently of display cells. Method and device for driving a plasma display panel

A color plasma display panel having a plurality of data drivers is disclosed. Data drivers which output data pulses for writing display information into pixels are divided for different emitted light colors, that is, into an R data driver, a G data driver and a B data driver. The R data driver is connected to data electrodes which form pixel columns of R, the G data driver is connected to data electrodes which form pixel columns of G, and the B data driver is connected to data electrodes which form pixel columns of B. The R data driver, G data driver and B data driver can adjust the data pulse widths, output voltages and output timings thereof independently of each other.

Color plasma display panel and method of driving the same

An AC plasma display panel includes first and second plates, a discharge space, a plurality of pairs of scan electrodes and common electrodes, and a plurality of data electrodes. The first and second plates are arranged opposite to each other through a predetermined gap, at least one of which is transparent. The discharge space is partitioned into a plurality of pixels.
