Cell electrode with thick tip portions

A non-aqueous secondary battery comprises a positive electrode-active material, a negative electrode material and a non-aqueous electrolyte, wherein an electrode mixture for positive electrode containing the positive electrode-active material comprises a compound in which anions can be inserted at a voltage of not less than 3.9 V (with respect to an Li.sup.+ /Li electrode). Moreover, the electrode mixture for positive electrode may further comprise at least one member selected from the group consisting of transition metals, elements of Group IIIB and IVB (except for C) and carbides thereof. The non-aqueous secondary battery can ensure safety against any overcharge and has a high discharge voltage. Moreover, the non-aqueous secondary battery permits increase in the charge capacity and discharge capacity without using any lithium compound in the electrode mixture for positive electrode, the reduction of the amount of the positive electrode-active material to be used and the improvement in the energy density of the resulting battery per unit volume.

Nonaqueous secondary battery

A nonaqueous battery comprising a positive electrode, a negative electrode and an electrolyte in a battery can having a cap, said cap having an opening and a sealing metal plate whose circumferential portion is supported by the cap. The sealing metal plate is supported by the cap via a layer of polymer material selected from the group consisting of a copolymer of an olefin and an acrylate ester or methacrylate ester which is grafted with maleic anhydride, a copolymer of an olefin and acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, and a copolymer of an olefin and an acrylate ester or methacrylate ester which is modified with a silane compound.

Nonaqueous battery

An enclosed non-aqueous secondary cell is herein disclosed, in which a group of electrodes comprising positive and negative electrodes allowing absorption and release of a light metal and separators are accommodated in a closed-end cell-armoring can together with a non-aqueous electrolyte and an opening of the armoring can is closed by an insulating gasket positioned around the inner periphery of the opening of the can and a closing lid fitted in and supported by the gasket and simultaneously serving as a positive or negative terminal, wherein the closing lid comprises an explosion-proof valve capable of deforming towards the direction opposite to the group of electrodes in response to an increase in the internal pressure of the cell, a terminal cap provided with vent holes and arranged at the side of the explosion-proof valve opposed to the group of electrodes and a non-reverse type switch which is positioned between the explosion-proof valve and the terminal cap and serves to shut-off the electrical connection between the terminal cap and the positive or negative electrode when the temperature of the cell is raised or the pressure in the cell is increased. The foregoing cell construction permits shutting off of the electrical connections within the cell when the temperature and/or internal pressure thereof increase.

Non-aqueous secondary cell

A nonaqueous secondary battery comprising a positive electrode and a negative electrode, in which a mixture of the positive electrode active material contains an acid containing at least one of P, B, Si, Mo, and W or a salt thereof. The battery has improved safety in case of abrupt temperature rise.

A non-aqueous battery comprises a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a non-aqueous electrolyte as well as a battery can serving as a negative electrode-terminal and a sealing terminal serving as a positive electrode-terminal which are crimp-sealed through a gasket comprising a polyolefin resin, wherein the polyolefin resin comprises a block copolymer of propylene and ethylene having an ethylene copolymerization rate ranging from 2 to 20% by weight and a modulus in flexure ranging from 12000 to 18000 kg/cm.sup.2. The non-aqueous battery has substantially improved storage stability when it is not in use and is not deteriorated even when it is subjected to discharge, large current discharge and pulse-discharge in an atmosphere whose temperature varies.

Non-aqueous battery with a block copolymer sealing member

A secondary battery including a positive electrode, a negative electrode made of an active material of light metal or its alloy or an active material capable of intercalating/deintercalating lithium ion, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, in which at least a portion of the container of the battery is made of an austenite stainless steel containing molybdenum.

A battery comprising a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte is provided, characterized in that said battery is sealed off with a sealant comprising a pitch, at least one polymer and at least one montmorillonite.

A nonaqueous battery having a positive electrode made of an active material of light metal or its alloy or an active material capable of intercalating/deintercalating lithium ion, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, in which the battery is sealed with a sealant containing a pitch and at least one montmorillonite group material. In a preferred embodiment, the amount of the montmorillonite group material is in the range of 2 to 30% by weight based on the total weight of the sealant minus solvents. The pitch may be a blown asphalt and the at least one montmorillonite group material may be a tri-octahedron type montmorillonite group material comprising a quaternary ammonium intercalated between layers. Alternatively, the pitch may be blown asphalt having a penetration (25.degree. C.) of 10 to 20 and the at least one montmorillonite group material may be a hectolite comprising a quaternary ammonium intercalated between layers.
