When the remaining charge amount of the battery decreases to a predetermined value or less, the engine torque reduction control unit reduces the torque of the engine such that the operating point of the engine falls within a predetermined engine torque stable region. Then, in a state in which the operating point of the engine is within the engine torque stable region, the torque of the electric motor is controlled by the charging control unit so that the actual charge amount by the electric motor becomes a preset target charge amount. This makes it possible to recover the battery from a state in which the charge amount is insufficient.

Charging control device for hybrid electric vehicle

An electronic control unit includes processing circuitry. A hybrid electric vehicle has an electric traveling mode, in which the hybrid electric vehicle travels with a system clutch disengaged and an engine in a stopped state, and a hybrid traveling mode, in which the hybrid electric vehicle travels with the system clutch engaged and engine operating. The processing circuitry is configured to control, when the traveling mode is switched from the electric traveling mode to the hybrid traveling mode, a throttle opening degree of the engine at the time of completion of engagement of the system clutch in accordance with the atmospheric pressure such that a constant intake air amount is obtained regardless of the level of the atmospheric pressure.

When the remaining charge level of the battery decreases to a predetermined first determination value or less, the engine rotational speed increase control unit increases the target lower limit rotational speed of the engine or of the motor to the target lower limit rotational speed so that the operating point of the engine falls within a predetermined engine torque stable region. Then, in a state where the operating point of the engine is within the engine torque stable region, the charge control unit controls the negative torque of the electric motor so that the actual charge level by the electric motor becomes a preset target charge level. The battery can thus be recovered from an insufficient charge level.

During BEV running that a vehicle is caused to run by using power of an electric motor, a determination threshold for determining whether to start an engine is corrected by estimating a shortage of driving force in advance based on a gear stage of an automatic transmission and a turbine rotation speed (that is, an AT input shaft rotation speed of the automatic transmission). Therefore, the engine is started at appropriate timing for a change in required MG torque, with the result that the shortage of driving force of the vehicle is suppressed.

A hybrid electric vehicle includes an engine, a motor, a clutch provided between the engine and the motor, a battery for charging regenerative electric power of the motor, and a control device that controls the engine, the motor, and the clutch. The control device includes a charge determination unit that determines whether the battery is chargeable when there is a deceleration request, and a deceleration control unit that executes, in a negative determination, a first deceleration process to decelerate the hybrid electric vehicle by friction torque of the engine, and executes, in a positive determination, a second deceleration process to decelerate the hybrid electric vehicle by regenerative torque of the motor. In the second deceleration process, the deceleration control unit causes the motor to output the friction torque at a rotational speed of the engine corresponding to a rotational speed of the motor as the regenerative torque.

A cooling device includes an inner passage, an outer passage, an engine-driven pump, an electromagnetic control valve, and a driving circuit that regulates current flowing through the electromagnetic control valve by activating and deactivating a switching element. A cooling controller for the cooling device includes a processing circuit configured to execute an operation process for operating, when the engine-driven pump is driven, the switching element by setting a duty cycle of an activation time to a switching cycle, which is a reciprocal of a switching frequency of the switching element, to be a larger value when a temperature of the internal combustion engine is low than when the temperature is high and a cycle varying process for setting a longer switching cycle when the temperature of the internal combustion engine is less than a preset temperature than when the temperature is greater than or equal to the preset temperature.

Cooling controller and control method for cooling device

A cooling system of an internal combustion engine includes an adjustment valve configured to adjust a flow rate of a cooling liquid discharged from a water jacket. A controller for the cooling system includes circuitry configured to execute flow-restriction control that controls the adjustment valve to restrict discharge of the cooling liquid from the water jacket, thereby increasing temperature of an engine body. The circuitry is configured to execute the flow-restriction control so that temperature of the cooling liquid in the water jacket at which the flow-restriction control is terminated is lower when an ambient pressure is low than when the ambient pressure is high.

Controller for cooling system of internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine includes a water jacket, a cooling water pump as a cooling liquid pump, and an adjusting valve. A control device for the internal combustion engine executes the water stoppage control of increasing the temperature of the engine body by limiting the discharge of the cooling liquid from the water jacket by the adjusting valve, and an automatic stop and automatic startup control of automatically stopping and automatically starting the internal combustion engine. The control device increases the fuel injection amount for automatically starting the internal combustion engine in a case where the water stoppage control is being executed when the internal combustion engine is automatically stopped as compared with a case where the water stoppage control is not being executed when the internal combustion engine is automatically stopped.

A coolant circuit of an engine cooling apparatus includes a first passage where coolant flows through a radiator and a second passage where coolant flows without passing through the radiator. A coolant control valve controls a first passage flow rate Frad and a second passage flow rate Fsec. An outlet coolant temperature sensor detects an outlet coolant temperature Tout, which is a coolant temperature before a branching point of the first passage and the second passage. An inlet coolant temperature sensor detects an inlet coolant temperature Tin, which is a coolant temperature after a merging point of the first passage and the second passage. A coolant temperature estimator calculates a radiator coolant temperature Trad, which is a coolant temperature at a coolant exit of the radiator, when the first passage flow rate Frad is greater than or equal to a specified flow rate using equation (1). 

Engine cooling apparatus

An ECU includes a motor control unit that controls energization to a motor, and a fixation determination unit that makes a determination on fixation of a valve body. The motor drives the valve body housed in a housing of a control valve. When the fixation determination unit has determined that the valve body is fixed, the motor control unit performs fixation-time control that energizes the motor so as to drive the valve body.

The controller sets the flow rate of the coolant which is adjusted by the flow rate adjuster to be less than a lower limit value of an adjustable range of the flow rate of the coolant which is adjusted by the flow rate adjuster in a vehicle compartment air-conditioning state in which the air blast volume adjusting member allows an air blast to flow to the heater core when the air blast volume adjusting member fully closes the heater core side of the air blast passage.

An engine cooling apparatus includes a mechanical water pump having a suction hole and N discharge holes (N is an integer not less than two), N water jackets that are arranged in an engine and correspond to the N discharge holes, N joint passages, each of which joins one of the N discharge holes to the associated water jacket, a return passage that returns coolant to the suction hole after the coolant has passed through the N water jackets and has merged in a merging portion, a coolant stopping mechanism that blocks return flow of coolant through the return passage, and N communication passages each of which allows the corresponding one of the N joint passages to communicate with the suction hole while bypassing the N water jackets and the coolant stopping mechanism.
