An optical information recording and reproducing apparatus is provided for recording and/or reproducing information on an optical disc including a recording layer in which information can be recorded at recording positions each located at a different distance from a surface of the optical disc. The optical information recording and reproducing apparatus includes: a light source; and an objective lens which can converge the light flux from the light source onto one of the recording positions at a predetermined depth in the recording layer for recording information on the optical disc. When information to be recorded is recorded on one of the recording positions at a predetermined depth in the recording layer, the optical information recording and reproducing apparatus records information about the predetermined depth on one of the plurality of recording positions at the predetermined depth, with the information to be recorded.

Optical information recording and reproducing apparatus

The present invention concerns a data-storing device, which is coupled to a personal computer through an interface and can enlarge a number of and a kind of devices connectable to the personal computer. The data-storing device includes an interfacing circuit that includes a data communication path through which the data can be bilaterally communicated between the device and an external device, which is coupled to the device with an interface cable, and a power-supplying path through which a power current can be bilaterally supplied between the device and the external device, wherein the interface cable also includes the data communication path and the power-supplying path; a data-storing unit to store the data sent from the interfacing circuit; and a plurality of interface connecting ports serving as input/output terminals of the interfacing circuit, wherein the interface cable can be connected to one of the interface connecting ports.

An apparatus for reading information from an optical disk, comprises a rotator to rotate the optical disk, a detector to detect optical information from the optical disk and to output signals, AC coupling section to eliminate signal components lower than a predetermined cut-off frequency from the signals, a slice level signal generator to generate slice level signals from a peak value and a bottom value of the signals; and a data outputting section to obtain data outputs from the signals and the slice level signals.

Photo-magnetic disk driver for recording, playing back, or erasing information on a photo-magnetic disk in a cartridge. The disk driver has a driver to rotate the photo-magnetic disk at a driving position, a generator of a magnetic field having a direction perpendicular to a surface of the photo-magnetic disk, a laser beam generator to irradiate a laser beam onto the disk surface so that the temperature of the irradiated portion of the surface is increased, a disk receiver of the cartridge. This disk driver includes a loading path to the driving position, and a support for moving the generator between a first position where the generator is inserted into the loading path, and a second position where the generator is outside of the loading path, wherein the generator is at the first position before the cartridge is received by the receiver.

Photo-magnetic disk driving apparatus

An optical head for optically writing data onto a recording medium and reading the data from the recording medium. The optical head includes an optical lens holder; a driver for the holder which is located on a side of the holder; flat spring members for elastically supporting the holder in a horizontal direction; and other flat spring members for elastically supporting the holder in a vertical direction, and for creating a sandwiched area. At least a part of the spring members for supporting the holder in a horizontal direction is located within the sandwiched area of the other spring members.

A method for detecting a focal point uses an optical system which includes a laser diode light source, a beam-splitter prism having three surfaces with one surface perpendicular to luminous flux emanating from a recording medium and another surface inclined relative to the first, an objective lens between the prism and the recording medium, a photodetector, and an apparatus capable of moving the objective lens perpendicular to the recording surface. The method using this apparatus includes the steps of placing the prism so that the incident angle of the flux through the objective lens is less than the emergent angle of the flux from the prism to the photodetector, detecting the intensity of the light, and driving the objective lens in response to an electrical signal.

A moving type image recording apparatus wherein an image on an original document is recorded on a substance to be recorded by moving an apparatus body having a recording device, the recording device being driven based on an information from a detecting device for detecting a moving amount of the apparatus body.
