A wheel bearing apparatus for rotatably supporting a wheel includes an inner member having two rows of raceway grooves on its outer circumference, an outer member having two rows of raceway grooves on its inner circumference, and rolling elements interposed between the raceway grooves of the inner and outer members. The raceway grooves of the inner and outer members are formed by hardened steel cutting. In relation to at least the raceway groove on the outboard side out of the raceway grooves of the inner member, h/d exceeds 0.50 where h is the depth of the groove and d is the diameter of the rolling elements. This provides a wheel bearing apparatus being compact and capable of withstanding a high applied load without inviting an increase in the size of the bearing.

Wheel bearing apparatus

A bearing device for a wheel has a hub wheel and a constant velocity universal joint with an outer joint member. Projecting portions extending in an axial direction are provided on one of an outer surface of a shaft section of the outer joint member and an inner surface of a hole portion of the hub wheel. The projecting portions are press-fitted into the other along the axial direction, and recessed portions are formed in the other through press-fitting of the projecting portions. Thus, a recess-projection fitting structure is formed, in which the projecting portions and the recessed portions are held in close contact with each other through an entire region of fitting contact regions therebetween.

Bearing device for wheel, and axle module

A bearing device includes a recess-projection fitting structure in which a hub wheel and a shaft section, which is fitted in a hole of the hub wheel of the outer joint member of the constant velocity universal joint, are unitized together. In the recess-projection fitting structure, entire fitting regions among projections on the outer surface of the shaft section of the outer joint member and recesses, which fit on the projections, are brought into intimate contact with each other.

A recess-projection fitting structure includes projections extending in an axial direction on an outer diameter surface of a shaft section of an outer joint member or an inner diameter surface of a hole of a hub wheel, press-fitting the projections in another of the outer diameter surface and the inner diameter surface along the axial direction, and forming recesses brought into contact and fitted with the projections by press fitting in the other of the outer diameter surface and the inner diameter surface, the projections and the recesses being held in contact with each other through intermediation. An outer member is fitted in a hole of a knuckle of a vehicle. Annular grooves are formed respectively in an outer peripheral surface of the outer member and an inner peripheral surface of the hole of the knuckle, and a snap ring is engaged with both the annular grooves.

Wheel bearing apparatus and axle module

A wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member, an inner member including a wheel hub and at least one inner ring, and double row rolling elements freely rollably contained between the inner and outer raceway surfaces of the inner and outer members via cages. A hardened ring-shaped gear member is mounted on an end of a cylindrical portion of the wheel hub. The gear member is formed with a gear portion on its outer circumference and with a splined portion on its inner circumference. The splined portion engages a hub-splined portion formed on the outer circumference of the cylindrical portion of the wheel hub. A contacting surface of the gear member and a contacting surface of the inner ring that abut against each other are ground. The inner rings are axially immovably secured under a condition where a predetermined amount of a bearing pre-stress is applied to the inner rings via the gear member.

A bearing device for a wheel prevents backlash in a circumferential direction and has excellent workability for connecting a hub wheel and an outer joint member of a constant velocity universal joint. The bearing device includes a recess-projection fitting structure in which the hub wheel and a shaft section, which is fitted in a hole of the hub wheel of the outer joint member of the constant velocity universal joint, are unitized together. In the recess-projection fitting structure, entire fitting regions among projections on the outer surface of the shaft section of the outer joint member and recesses, which fit on the projections, are brought into intimate contact with each other.

Manufacturing method for a bearing device for a wheel

A shaft portion of a joint outer ring where projections extending in an axial direction are provided is press-fitted into a hole portion of a hub wheel to thereby form recesses by the projections in an inner diameter surface of a shaft fitting hole of the hub wheel, by which a recess-projection fitting structure is constructed. An entire area of fitting sites of the projections and the recesses are brought into close contact. Moreover, a bolt member is fastened in a bolt hole provided in the shaft portion of the joint outer ring after the construction of the recess-projection fitting structure, which restricts separation between the hub wheel and the joint outer ring. As the bolt member, if an outer diameter of a seating surface thereof is dand a shaft diameter is d, a bolt member satisfying a relational expression of 2.3&#x2266;(d/d)&#x2266;4.9 is used.

A hub wheel () and an outer joint member () are coupled to each other through intermediation of a recess-projection fitting structure (M). The recess-projection fitting structure (M) can be separated by being applied with a pulling-out force in an axial direction under a state in which a bolt member () is removed, and can be re-formed by re-screwing the bolt member () into a bolt hole (). The hub wheel () comprises a receiving portion () for receiving the bolt member (). The shaft portion () has a small diameter portion () serving as a fit-in portion to be fitted along an inner periphery of the receiving portion () under a state in which the recess-projection fitting structure (M) is formed. The small diameter portion () is used as a part for confirming the accuracy and the state of the recess-projection fitting structure (M).

Bearing device for wheel

A bearing device for a wheel suppresses backlash in a circumferential direction, has excellent coupling workability with a hub wheel and an outer joint member of a constant velocity universal joint, and has excellent strength owing to stable fitting between the hub wheel and the outer joint member. Projecting portions extending in an axial direction are provided on one of an outer surface of a shaft section of the outer joint member and an inner surface of a hole portion of the hub wheel. The projecting portions are press-fitted into the other along the axial direction, and recessed portions are formed in the other through press-fitting of the projecting portions. Thus, a recess-projection fitting structure is formed, in which the projecting portions and the recessed portions are held in close contact with each other through an entire region of fitting contact regions therebetween.

A bearing device for a wheel is capable of suppressing a backlash in a circumferential direction, is excellent in coupling operability of a hub wheel and an outer joint member of a constant velocity universal joint, and is excellent for maintenance by allowing separation of the hub wheel and the outer joint member of the constant velocity universal joint. In the bearing device for a wheel, a hub wheel, a double-row roller bearing, and a constant velocity universal joint are unitized together, and the hub wheel and a shaft section of an outer joint member of the constant velocity universal joint are separably coupled with each other through intermediation of a recess-projection fitting structure, the shaft section being inserted in a fitting manner into a hole portion of the hub wheel.

A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus with a back-to-back double row tapered roller bearing has an outer member integrally with a body mounting flange and double row outer raceway surfaces tapered open respectively axially inward and outward. An inner member include a wheel hub and an inner ring or an outer joint member of a constant velocity universal joint. The wheel hub has a wheel mounting flange and one inner raceway surface arranged oppositely to one of the double row outer raceway surfaces and a cylindrical portion. The inner ring or the outer joint member of a constant velocity universal joint are press fit onto the cylindrical portion and include the other inner raceway surface arranged opposite to the other raceway surface of the double row outer raceway surfaces. Double row tapered rollers are freely rollably held between the outer and inner raceway surfaces by cages. Seals are arranged in annular openings formed by the outer and inner members. The cages are formed of synthetic resin. Posts between pockets of the cages are arranged to be positioned radially inward of the pitch circle diameter of the tapered rollers. The width of an opening radially inward of each pocket is set so that each tapered roller is held within the pocket. The contacting tapered surfaces of the posts open radially outward so that the rollers do not fall out radially inward.

Bearing apparatus for a wheel of vehicle

A joint assembly has a pair of constant velocity universal joints and a connecting drive shaft. A cover unit protects the constant velocity universal joints and prevents hanging down of the joints under their own weight. The unit cover is arranged to cover the outer circumferential surfaces of the pair of constant velocity universal joints and boots. The unit cover is formed from elastomer material by injection molding. The cover unit inner circumferential surface has a configuration corresponding to the outline configurations of the pair of constant velocity universal joints and the boots.
