A projection type display apparatus includes: a semiconductor laser element that outputs laser light based on supply of current; a digital mirror device (DMD) that modulates the light output from the semiconductor laser element and emits the modulated light; a projection lens that projects the incident light via the DMD; a drive unit that drives the semiconductor laser element and includes a current detection unit for detecting the current value of the current flowing through the semiconductor laser element; and a controller that, when the current value detected by the current detection unit becomes greater than a first threshold, controls driving of the DMD so that the light output from the DMD will not be incident on the projection lens, and when the current value detected becomes greater than a second threshold greater than the first threshold, causes the drive unit to cut off the supply of current.

A cleaning device includes an upstream cleaner, an upstream cleaner, and a collection member. The upstream cleaner is configured to remove toner from a surface of a cleaning target. A cleaning device includes a cleaner, a casing, and an exit seal. The cleaner is configured to remove toner from a cleaning target. The casing accommodates the cleaner. The exit seal is attached to the casing and has a free end contacting the cleaning target at a position downward from the cleaner in a direction of movement of the cleaning target and an attached end attached to the casing. A space is disposed between a surface of the cleaning target and an opposite face of the exit seal opposite the cleaning target. The space includes an opening at a lateral end of the exit seal. The exit seal contacts the cleaning target from a trailing direction of the exit seal and seals the opening at at least an attached end side of the exit seal.

Scalercorrects the image signal for distortion based on the correction amount. Caption signal processing circuitadjusts the display content of a caption signal based on the correction amount in such a manner that the entire caption indicated by the caption signal is displayed. An image forming apparatus includes at least one image carrier and a recording medium conveyor forming a transfer nip therebetween, a conveyance member disposed closest to the transfer nip on an upstream side of the transfer nip to convey the recording medium to the transfer nip, and a conveyance control mechanism to deactivate the conveyance member to stop providing a conveyance force to the recording medium after the leading edge of the recording medium has entered the transfer nip and before the trailing edge of the recording medium passes a point of force application and remaining in the inactive state until the recording medium passes the point of force application. The conveyance force remains unapplied to the recording medium from when the conveyance control mechanism deactivates the conveyance member to when the trailing edge of the recording medium passes the transfer nip.

The roller is configured to cover the shaft along the rotation axis and have two roller ends from which the two shaft end portions of the shaft are projected outwardly along the rotation axis.
