Provided is an optical laminate including a resin layer and an adhesive layer, and being excellent in adhesiveness between these layers. The optical laminate includes: a resin layer; an adhesive layer arranged on at least one side of the resin layer; and an intermediate layer formed between the resin layer and the adhesive layer, the intermediate layer containing at least part of a material constituting the resin layer and at least part of a material constituting the adhesive layer, in which the intermediate layer has a thickness of from 20 nm to 200 nm. In one embodiment, the resin layer includes a resin film having optical anisotropy.

Optical laminate

A material roll including a roll of a continuous sheet material, including an optical member including a polarizer and a release film provided on one side of the optical member with an adhesive interposed therebetween, wherein when no external force is applied, the continuous sheet material curls in the longitudinal direction in such a way that the release film is facing inward, and the continuous sheet material is for use in a process including bonding the optical member to a substrate with the adhesive interposed therebetween to form an optical display unit.

Provided is a liquid crystal display in which occurrence of iridescent unevenness is suppressed, even when a film with high level of mechanical properties, chemical resistance and water-barrier properties is used as a polarizer-protective-film. Also, disclosed is a polarizing plate to be used in the liquid crystal display. The liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal cell, a light source, a first polarizing plate placed between the liquid crystal cell and the light source, and a second polarizing plate placed on a viewer side of the liquid crystal cell. The first polarizing plate includes a polarizer and a first protective film placed on a light source side principal surface of the first protective film, and the first protective film satisfies following relations: (i) 0 nm&#x2266;Re&#x2266;3000 nm; (ii) Nz&#x2267;5; and (iii) Rth&#x3e;2500 nm.

Liquid crystal display device and polarizing plate

A polarizing plate of the present invention comprises a polarizer; an adhesive layer; and a transparent protective film bonded to at least one side of the polarizer with the adhesive layer interposed therebetween, wherein the adhesive layer is formed from an active energy ray curing adhesive containing at least one curable component, and the adhesive layer has a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 60&#xb0; C. or more, and a thickness of 0.01 &#x3bc;m an to 5 &#x3bc;m. The polarizing plate has sufficient durability in a severe environment at high temperature and high humidity.

Image display device having polarizer with polarizer protection

A method for manufacturing an optical display unit including a substrate and an optical member having a polarizer, the optical member being bonded to the substrate with an adhesive interposed therebetween. The method includes a cutting step of feeding a continuous sheet material from a roll of the continuous sheet material, the continuous sheet material including the optical member and a release film provided on one side of the optical member with the adhesive interposed therebetween, and cutting the continuous sheet material by cutting means, while leaving the release film uncut, and a bonding step including bonding the sheet material to the substrate with the adhesive interposed therebetween, while removing the release film. When no external force is applied to the sheet material, the sheet material curls in the longitudinal direction so that the release film is facing inward.

Method for manufacturing optical display unit, and sheet material and roll for use therein

A polarizing plate of the present invention comprises: a polarizer; a transparent protective film placed on at least one side of the polarizer; and an adhesive layer interposed between the polarizer and the transparent protective film, wherein the polarizer is a stretched polyvinyl alcohol film dyed with a dichroic material and containing a sulfate ion, and the adhesive layer is formed with an active energy ray-curable adhesive containing at least one curable component. The polarizing plate has durability at high temperature.

A polarizing plate of the present invention comprises: a polarizer; a transparent protective film placed on at least one side of the polarizer; and an adhesive layer and an adhesion facilitating layer interposed in this order from the polarizer side between the polarizer and the transparent protective film, wherein the adhesive layer is formed with an active energy ray-curable adhesive that contains a hydroxyl group-containing N-substituted amide monomer as a curable component, and the adhesion facilitating layer is formed with a polymer resin composition that contains 100 parts by weight of a polymer resin and 3 to 30 parts by weight of an organosilane compound having at least one functional group selected from an acryloyl group, a methacryloyl group, a vinyl group, and a mercapto group. The polarizing plate has good adhesion.

A method of manufacturing a polarizer is provided that makes it possible to manufacture a polarizer prevented from curling even when a liquid is brought into contact with a hydrophilic polymer film by being sprayed. A method of manufacturing a polarizer includes a swelling step A for swelling a hydrophilic polymer filmby bringing it into contact with a swelling liquid, a dyeing step B for dyeing the hydrophilic polymer filmby bringing it into contact with a dye liquidcontaining a dichroic material, and a crosslinking/stretching step C for crosslinking the hydrophilic polymer filmby bringing it into contact with a crosslinking liquidand further stretching it. In the method, the contact with the swelling liquid in the swelling step A is carried out in the gas phase by spraying the swelling liquidonto both surfaces of the hydrophilic polymer film
