The invention provides a light irradiation apparatus that can adjust widening/narrowing of a light irradiation area and can guide almost whole of light emitted from an LED to the light irradiation area. The apparatus has an LEDand an optical unitfor making light for the LEDpass through itself and emit from its apical surface, and is equipped further with a supporting bodyA for holding the LED on the apical surface and a position adjustment mechanism for adjusting a relative position of the optical unitto the LEDalong an optical axis C direction. The apparatus is configured so that the potion adjustment mechanism make the optical unitmove relative to the LEDbetween a proximity position Pat which a part or the whole of the supporting bodyA is housed in a base end recessand a clearance position Pat which substantially whole of the supporting bodyA comes out of the base end recessso that the apical surface of the supporting bodyA and a base end faceof the optical unitbecome substantially the same height.

Light irradiation apparatus

An optical unit is provided with an integral light condensing section and a light transmitting section. The light condensing section is in a shape of a parabolic body of rotation substantially widening from a proximal end toward a distal end with a concave section opening at a proximal end face to accommodate a light emitting element, a side circumferential face to reflect the light from the light emitting element inward and a distal end face to introduce the light from the light emitting element into the light transmitting section. The light transmitting section is a substantially cylindrical shape of a smaller diameter than the light condensing section, and comprises a proximal end face to introduce the light from the light condensing section, a side circumferential face to reflect the light introduced from the proximal end face inward and a distal end face to emit the light.
