The invention provides a radar that transmits a radio wave and receives an echo of the radio wave, which is characterized by possessing () a reception means that detects a beat signal of the echo and the radio wave, () a first frequency analysis means that analyzes the beat signal into frequency components, and detects a peak signal of frequency spectra obtained thereby, and () a second frequency analysis means that analyzes the beat signal into frequency components with a frequency resolution different from that of the first frequency analysis means, and detects a peak signal of frequency spectra obtained thereby.

Radar apparatus

A method of starting an electric brushless rotating machine is provided where a large startup torque is obtained with no use of any rotor position detecting device and the forced commutation can be switched to normal energization easily and smoothly. At the startup stage, any two of three-phase stator windings are energized for initial magnetization (Steps S and S ) to hold the magnetic rotor at a position. Then, the windings of the phases are energized in a sequence while gradually increasing the level of the energization (Step S ). During the forced commutation, the magnetic rotor is rotated by a rotating position detecting signal generated from a voltage signal induced on the not-energized windings to drive the output shaft of an engine. Then, the energization is canceled when the number of revolutions in the internal combustion engine determined from the rotating position detecting signal reaches its predetermined level.

Method for starting an electric brushless rotating machine for driving an internal combustion engine

From a transmitter ( ) and a transmission antenna ( ), a first frequency signal having a fixed frequency is transmitted for a predetermined time or more, a second frequency signal having a certain frequency difference from the first frequency signal is transmitted for a predetermined time or more, and a third frequency signal having a frequency difference twice the frequency distance from the first frequency signal is transmitted for a predetermined time or more. Reflected waves from objects under measurement at the respective transmission frequencies are supplied to a reception antenna ( ), a mixer ( ), an analog circuit unit ( ), an A/D converter ( ), an FFT ( ) and a signal processing unit ( ). Then, the Doppler frequencies are measured for the reflected waves, objects under measurement are separated and detected at each Doppler frequency, and objects under measurements having the same Doppler frequency are separated to identify a plurality of objects under measurement from phase information and amplitude information of received signals acquired at each transmission frequency. In this manner, when there are a plurality of objects under measurement which are substantially equal in relative speed, these can be separated from each other and detected.

In an engine ignition system that includes a rotor that rotates in synchronism with rotation of an engine, an iron core fixedly disposed opposite the outer periphery of the rotor, and a primary coil and a secondary coil that are wound concentrically around the iron core, to reduce the weight of the rotor while allowing the rotational balance of the rotor to be easily adjusted, simplify the arrangement of the rotor itself, and secure an effectively usable space in the region on the inside of the rotor in the radial direction. Permanent magnets are fitted to the iron core having a plurality of legs opposite the outer periphery of the rotor at positions that are spaced in the peripheral direction of the rotor, and an inductor is fixed to the outer periphery of the rotor. The inductor forms a magnetic path for the magnetic flux that is formed by the permanent magnets between pairs of legs. The legs in a pair are adjacent to each other in the peripheral direction of the rotor, and the winding of the primary coil and the secondary coil around the iron core allows a spark plug to be energized every time the inductor passes the pairs of legs.

The present invention provides an intelligent cruise control device installed in a host vehicle and used for performing follow-up cruise control to follow up a moving target located in front of the host vehicle by supplying an operating signal to an auto cruise control device which is used for carrying out auto cruise control to adjust the speed of the host vehicle by carrying out an operation indicated by the operating signal generated by the operating part in accordance with an operation type such as acceleration and deceleration specified by the driver so that the host vehicle is running at the adjusted speed. The intelligent cruise control device further comprises: a storage means for storing information on the operating signal for each operation type such as acceleration and deceleration; an operation determining means for determining the type of an operation required by the host vehicle to follow up a moving target located in front of the host vehicle from information on the speed of the host vehicle and information on the range between the host vehicle and the moving target; and a signal generating means for reading out information on an operating signal for the type of an operation determined by the operation determining means from the storage means and for generating the operating signal in accordance with the information on the operating signal read out from the storage means.

A vehicle position information displaying apparatus and method are disclosed in which position information of a preceding vehicle is displayed in a manner superimposed on the form of a road under running of a user's vehicle generated from map information. The apparatus includes a present position detecting unit for detecting the present position of the user's vehicle, a running road selecting unit for selecting a road under running of the user's vehicle from the present position of the user's vehicle, an other vehicle detecting unit for detecting a distance to another vehicle and the azimuth of the other vehicle, an other vehicle position determining unit for determining the position of the other vehicle, and an other vehicle position displaying unit for developing the running road to a plane view or birds-eye view and displaying position information of the user's vehicle and the other vehicle in a manner superimposed on the developed running road.

Vehicle position information displaying apparatus and method

An engine starting apparatus has a first one-way clutch provided at one part of a series of gears for transmitting rotation of a starter motor to a crankshaft, and a second one-way clutch provided in a transmission mechanism for transmitting rotation of a recoil starter to the crankshaft. The first one-way clutch includes a small gear, a decelerating gear and a large gear. The small gear is connected to the crankshaft and has step portions on an inner peripheral surface thereof. The decelerating gear is connected to an output shaft of the starter motor. The large gear is connected in meshing engagement with the decelerating gear and has ratchets urged to mesh with the step portions of the small gear to engage the first one-way clutch only when the large gear is rotated via the decelerating gear upon rotation of the starter motor in such a direction as to start an engine.

Engine starting apparatus

An engine starting apparatus comprises a case having an outer case and a case cover defining an interior space. The outer case has at least first, second and third bolt apertures, for attaching the case to an engine. A motor mounting seat is formed in an inner wall of the outer case for mounting thereon a starter motor for starting the engine. A recoil starter mechanism is disposed in the interior space of the case for starting the engine. The recoil starter mechanism has a starting rope pulling port disposed adjacent to the first bolt aperture. The starter motor is disposed between the first bolt aperture and the third bolt aperture when the starting rope pulling port is positioned between the first bolt aperture and the second bolt aperture, and the starter motor is disposed between the first bolt aperture and the second bolt aperture when the starting rope pulling port is positioned between the first bolt aperture and the third bolt aperture. First louvers extend from an outer surface of the case cover. Second louvers are formed on a wall of the outer case. External air is taken in by the first and second louvers around the entire periphery of the case during operation of the engine.

An intelligent cruise control system is capable of maintaining a car-to-car distance allowing a collision to be avoided and carrying out follow-up running control without providing a sense of incompatibility to the driver. A radar circuit employed in a radar unit calculates a relative speed Vr of a car running ahead of a vehicle with an intelligent cruise control system installed therein with respect to the vehicle and a distance dr from the vehicle to the preceding car from a wave reflected by the preceding car. An ICC unit adjusts the speed of the vehicle by controlling the output of the engine of the vehicle in accordance with information such as the relative speed Vr and the distance dr received from the radar unit. In a follow-up running mode, the ICC unit controls the cruise of the vehicle in such a way that the speed of the vehicle and the distance from the vehicle to the preceding car are maintained at a target speed and a target car-to-car distance respectively. When the ICC unit forms a judgment that deceleration of the vehicle is not enough if only deceleration based on the engine brake is relied on, giving rise to fear of a rear-end collision of the vehicle with the preceding car, the ICC unit calculates a target deceleration and operates an automatic brake unit, letting the automatic brake unit generate a braking force appropriate for the target acceleration.

Intelligent cruise control system for moving body

In a method of adjusting the axis of a car on-board radar, especially, a car on-board mono-pulse radar having the function of transmitting radio waves, light or ultrasonic waves, a car axis and an offset axis are set and the mount angle of an antenna offset-mounted on the offset axis can be adjusted with high precision and with ease through a reduced number of process steps. In the method, at least two points are set on the car, at least two isosceles triangles having a common base defined by a line connecting the setting points and sides of different lengths are drawn, a line connecting vertexes on the same plane of the obtained isosceles triangles and an extension of that line are determined as the car axis, the radar antenna is mounted on the car at an offset position which is apart from the car axis by a constant distance in the horizontal direction, a straight line parallel to the car axis and passing through the offset position is determined as the offset axis, a reflector is disposed in a direction at a constant azimuth angle as viewed from the offset position of the antenna, and the reflector is used as a detection target of the radar to adjust the mount angle of the radar antenna such that an azimuth angle detection value of the reflector detected by the radar equals a setting value of the azimuth angle.
