A digital video signal reproducing apparatus comprises a reproducing circuit for reproducing a digital video signal from a recording medium, where the recording medium is time-sequentially recorded with the digital video signal having a signal format in which a header signal is added to each of divided picture element data groups which are obtained by dividing a picture element data group in terms of a predetermined unit, the picture element data group is obtained by subjecting an analog video signal to a digital pulse modulation at a sampling frequency such that a product of a number of picture element data in one scanning line and an effective number of scanning lines in one picture of a standard television system is exceedingly close to 2.sup.18 but less than 2.sup.18, and the header signal at least comprises a synchronizing signal and a picture mode identification code, a header signal reproducing circuit for discriminating the header signal within the digital video signal reproduced by the reproducing circuit and reproducing the header signal, two memory circuits into which the picture element data group within said reproduced digital video signal is written and from which a stored picture element data group is read out, a circuit for controlling write-in and read-out with respect to the two memory circuits according to a code in the reproduced header signal, and a circuit for producing an analog video signal in accordance with a standard television system from the picture element data read out from the two memory circuits.

A digital video signal recording system and reproducing apparatus comprise a circuit for independently subjecting a luminance signal and two kinds of color difference signals of a color picture information to digital pulse modulation, to produce a digital luminance signal and two kinds of digital color difference signals, a circuit for dividing the digital luminance signal and the two kinds of digital color difference signals into picture element data groups, in terms of specific number of rows or columns which are adjacent on a screen, and adding a header signal at least comprising a synchronizing signal, a picture mode identification code, and a picture information quantity identification code to a beginning position of each of the divided picture element data groups comprising the digital luminance signal and the two kinds of digital color difference signals, to produce a digital video signal having a signal format in which the digital luminance, the two kinds of digital color difference signals, and the header signal are time-sequentially multiplexed, a circuit for recording the digital video signal onto a recording medium, a circuit for writing each of the divided picture element data groups picked up and reproduced from the recording medium into a memory circuit according to codes within the header signal, and a circuit for producing an analog video signal in accordance with a standard television system from picture element data read out from the memory circuit.

A system for obtaining synchronized reproduction from a plurality of reproducing apparatuses by obtaining mutually synchronized reproduced signals from a plurality of reproducing apparatuses, where the plurality of reproducing apparatuses respectively reproduces recorded signals from a recording medium in which mutually identical address signals are recorded for each predetermined data signal block. The system for obtaining synchronized reproduction comprises a control circuit for controlling reproducing operations of the plurality of reproducing apparatuses so that one reproducing apparatus with respect to the other reproducing apparatus of the plurality of reproducing apparatuses performs reproduction in a state advanced by a predetermined quantity on the recording medium, a detection circuit for comparing and detecting a difference between address signals reproduced by the plurality of reproducing apparatuses, and a memory device controlled for writing-in and reading-out operations by a detection output from the detection means, for producing a reproduced signal from the one advanced reproducing apparatus after delaying the reproduced signal so as to be in synchronism with a reproduced signal from the other reproducing apparatus.

A monaural signal to artificial stereo signals converting and processing circuit for headphones comprises, a circuit which converts a monaural signal into artificial stereo signals, a circuit which adds localizing information of imaginary sources to the artificial stereo signals thus obtained, and a circuit which adds imaginary indirect sounds to the artificial stereo signals added with the localizing information. Due to the addition of the indirect sounds, the sound expansion felt by a listener listening to a headphone expands to regions outside the listener's head.

A dummy head for use in recording binaural sounds includes a pick-up for the sounds in the form of two microphones. The head comprises a pair of simulated ears, each having a single smooth three-dimensional, curved surface extending radially in all directions so the inner surface of an auditory canal is continuous with the curved surface and the junction area between them is smoothly curved, to improve the frequency characteristics of the output signals of the microphones. A binaural sound reproducing system includes a transducer for translating the recorded binaural information into an electrical signal on each of separate channels and a convolution integrator on each separate channel connected to receive the output from the transducer to compensate for acoustical differences resulting from the facial difference between the dummy head used for recording the binaural signal and a particular listener.

A binaural four-channel stereophony comprises at least two dummy heads each provided with microphones at the ears of the dummy to pick up signals from various sound sources or groups of sound sources. The binaural signals representing each sound source or a group of sound sources are coupled to an acoustic crosstalk cancellation circuit and eventually applied to two front or two rear loudspeakers. Each sound source or group of sound sources is localized between adjacent ones of the four speakers to simulate the binaural effect produced in a closed-circuit type binaural sound reproducing system.
