A medical syringe includes a cylindrical syringe body and a plunger fitted in the syringe body for injecting a liquid agent filled in the syringe body from the syringe body into the vascular system of the human body by advancing the plunger relative to the syringe body . The plunger comprising a plunger body and an elastic cover fitted over the plunger body from the front. The plunger body is provided with a backplate at a rear end thereof, the backplate having an annular groove forwardly opened and formed in a front surface outer peripheral portion thereof. The portion of the elastic cover to be rearwardly stretched by the advance of the plunger is allowed to ingress into the annular groove for escape.
