A cap is provided for preventing the deformation and breakage of tabs in a hood-less type male connector. The cap is integrally made of a synthetic resin, and a cap main body for surrounding tabs projecting from the front end surface of a connector housing is formed at a front part of the cap . Behind the cap main body is formed an engaging portion for engaging the cap with the connector housing . The engaging portion is comprised of a tubular portion A to be mounted on a front end portion of the connector housing and a pair of elastic pieces B extending from the left and right side walls of the tubular portion A. Further, retainer protecting ribs project upward and downward from a rear end of the tubular portion A so as to prevent retainers in their standby positions from shifting to their locking positions.

Connector and a cap therefor

A cap is provided for preventing the deformation and breakage of tabs in a hood-less type male connector. The cap 3 is integrally made of a synthetic resin, and a cap main body 12 for surrounding tabs projecting from the front end surface of a connector housing 1 is formed at a front part of the cap 3. Behind the cap main body 12 is formed an engaging portion 11 for engaging the cap 3 with the connector housing 1. The engaging portion 11 is comprised of a tubular portion 11A to be mounted on a front end portion of the connector housing 1 and a pair of elastic pieces 11B extending from the left and right side walls of the tubular portion 11A. Further, retainer protecting ribs 16 project upward and downward from a rear end of the tubular portion 11A so as to prevent retainers 8 in their standby positions from shifting to their locking positions.

A connector, particularly designed for attachment to an automobile door having an opening therein, including a hood passing through the opening when the device is installed. The hood carries, on one surface, a lock piece with an engagement projection and its distal end. Since the entire connector is molded of resin, contact with the perimeter of the opening in the door can scratch the sloped surface of the engagement projection and hinder its insertion. There is provided a metal cover fitting over a sloped surface of the lock piece so that, when the connector is inserted, there is only metal to metal contact between the perimeter of the opening and the cover of the slope surface. In this way, even if there is flash around the perimeter, the connector can be smoothly and readily attached.

Connector for attachment to a panel

A female connector housing is formed by arranging a fixed terminal holder so as to be fixed on an outer housing and arranging a movable terminal holder so as to be movable in a direction of insertion. The movable terminal holder is held with a front end thereof being ahead of the fixed terminal holder in the direction of insertion. Therefore, when the female connector housing is inserted into a male connector housing, a terminal group arranged on the movable terminal holder is first coupled, and a terminal group arranged on the fixed terminal holder is then coupled. In other words, all the terminals are coupled while divided into two groups at a single inserting stroke.
