According to one embodiment, an electrode includes a current collector and an active material-containing layer. The active material-containing layer includes an active material, a conductive agent, and cellulose fiber. The conductive agent includes carbon fiber. The active material-containing layer includes a first surface brought into contact with the current collector, and a second surface. 2000/mmor less of first agglomerates are present on the second surface. Each of the first agglomerates includes at least one of the carbon fiber or the cellulose fiber, and does not include the active material. Each of the first agglomerates has a longest diameter of 5 μm or more and a shortest diameter of 1 μm or more.

According to one embodiment, provided is an active material including monoclinic niobium titanium composite oxide particles, and carbon fibers with which at least a part of surfaces of the monoclinic niobium titanium composite oxide particles is covered. The monoclinic niobium titanium composite oxide particles satisfy 1.5&#x2264;(&#x3b1;/&#x3b2;)&#x2264;2.5. The monoclinic niobium titanium composite oxide particles have an average primary particle size of 0.05 &#x3bc;m to 2 &#x3bc;m. The carbon fibers contain one or more metal elements selected from the group consisting of Fe, Co and Ni, and satisfy 1/10000&#x2264;(&#x3b3;/&#x3c3;)&#x2264; 1/100. The carbon fibers have an average fiber diameter in the range of 5 nm to 100 nm.

The negative electrode mixed-material layer includes a titanium-containing metal oxide and a binder including an acrylic resin. The negative electrode satisfies &#x3b1;/&#x3b2;&#x3e;1.36&#xd7;10, where '&#x3b1;' is a peel strength (N/m) between the current collector and the negative electrode mixed-material layer, and '&#x3b2;' is a cutting strength (N/m) according to a surface and interfacial cutting method in the negative electrode mixed-material layer.

According to one embodiment, a nonaqueous electrolyte battery is provided. This nonaqueous electrolyte battery includes a negative electrode, a positive electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The negative electrode contains a negative electrode active material having a Li insertion/extraction potential of 0.8 V (vs. Li/Li) or more. The positive electrode contains a positive electrode active material represented by LiMnFeAPO(where 0&#x3c;x&#x2264;0.3, 0&#x2264;y&#x2264;0.1, and A is at least one selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Al, Ti, Zn, and Zr) and an active material that Li can be inserted to at a potential of 3.3 V (vs. Li/Li) or less.

According to one embodiment, there is provided a negative electrode. The negative electrode includes a negative electrode layer. The negative electrode layer contains a titanium composite oxide and a carboxymethyl-cellulose compound. The carboxymethyl-cellulose has a degree of etherification of 1 or more and 2 or less. The negative electrode layer has a density of 2.2 g/cmor more.

According to one embodiment, an electrode includes a current collector, an active material-containing layer, a first peak, a second peak and a pore volume. The active material-containing layer contains an active material having a lithium absorption potential of 0.4 V (vs. Li/Li) or more. The first peak has a mode diameter of 0.01 to 0.1 &#x3bc;m in a diameter distribution of pores detected by mercury porosimetry. The second peak has a mode diameter of 0.2 &#x3bc;m (exclusive) to 1 &#x3bc;m (inclusive) in the diameter distribution of pores. The pore volume detected by the mercury porosimetry is within a range of 0.1 to 0.3 mL per gram of a weight of the electrode excluding a weight of the current collector.

According to one embodiment, a battery electrode includes an active material layer and a current collector is provided. The active material layer contains particles of a monoclinic &#x3b2;-type titanium complex oxide and particles of a lithium titanate having a spinel structure. When a particle size frequency distribution of particles contained in the active material layer is measured by the laser diffraction and scattering method, a first peak Pappears in a range of 0.3 &#x3bc;m to 3 &#x3bc;m and a second peak Pappears in a range of 5 &#x3bc;m to 20 &#x3bc;m in the frequency distribution diagram. The ratio F/Fof the frequency Fof the first peak Pto the frequency Fof the second peak Pis 0.4 to 2.3.

A &#x3b6;-potential of the black pigment to the at least one polymerizable compound of the organic dispersant is confined within the range of &#x2212;10 mV to +100 mV.

There is provided a pigment dispersion comprising at least one resin-coated pigment comprising a resin and a pigment, and having an average particle diameter of 250 nm or less, and a dispersion medium containing as a major component a cation polymeric compound having a viscosity of 30 mPa&#xb7;s or less at a temperature of 25&#xb0; C. and a boiling point of 150&#xb0; C. or more at 1 atm. The pigment is incorporated in the pigment dispersion at a ratio ranging from 3 to 41% by weight based on a total weight of the dispersion medium, and the resin is incorporated in the resin-coated pigment at a ratio ranging from 5 to 37% by weight based on the weight of the pigment.

The content of multivalent salt included in the onium salt is not more than 20% by weight based on a total weight of onium salt, and the content of the pigment component is confined within the range of 3 to 41% by weight based on the ink composition.
