According to an embodiment, an image reader for reading an original image formed on a surface of a recording medium is disclosed. The image reader comprises an illumination unit configured to illuminate the surface with a white light source, a light receiving unit comprising a plurality of color image sensors each configured to receive light reflected from the surface to form a monochromatic image, and an image processing synthesis unit configured to process the monochromatic images from the light receiving unit to form a synthesized image. The image reader further comprises an operation unit configured to designate a specific color, and a control unit configured to control the image processing synthesis unit to exclude, from the synthesized image processing, the monochromatic image from the color image sensor that corresponds to the specific color designated in the operation unit.

Image reader, image eraser, and related methods

According to one embodiment, a document detecting apparatus includes a light-emitting element, a photoelectric conversion element, a light-emission controller and a detection processor. The light-emitting element projects light onto a detection position of a document. The light-emitting element is not used for reading an image of the document. The photoelectric conversion element converts light projected onto the detection position into an electric signal and outputs the electric signal. The light-emission controller changes the light quantity of the light emitted by the light-emitting element during a predetermined interval. The detection processor detects the presence or absence of the document at the detection position of the document based on whether a value of the output electric signal during the predetermined interval changes in correspondence to the change of the light quantity caused by the light-emission controller.

According to one embodiment, an image scanning apparatus includes a document table on which an original document is stacked; a substrate; plural first light emitting elements located on one surface of the substrate, the first light emitting elements each emitting light for irradiating the original document on the document table with direct light not reflected by a reflection member; and plural second light emitting elements located on the other surface of the substrate, the second light emitting elements each emitting light for irradiating the original document on the document table with indirect light reflected by the reflection member. The reflection member includes a first reflection member and a second reflection member, and the first reflection member and the second reflection member are located in positions opposed to each other across a reflection optical path of light reflected by the original document on the document table.

According to embodiments, an image reading apparatus and an image reading method are disclosed. The image reading method comprises receiving a signal of an image color of an image on an original, and based on the received signal, controlling an illuminating section comprising a red light source, a green light source and a blue light source so that one of the red, green and blue light sources is turned off, while the remaining light sources are turned on. The image reading method further comprises receiving, on an image sensor, light from the turned-on light sources that is reflected off of the original, and processing the light received by the image sensor to form a monochromatic image.

Image reading apparatus and related methods

According to one embodiment, an image scanning apparatus includes a document glass, a substrate, a first semiconductor light emitting element, a second semiconductor light emitting element, a light guiding section, and a light receiving section. The substrate is provided below and obliquely opposed to the document glass. The first semiconductor light emitting element is mounted on a first surface of the substrate opposed to the document glass and emits light to an original document via the document glass. The second semiconductor light emitting element is mounted on a second surface on the opposite side of the first surface and emits light. The light guiding section receives incidence of the light emitted from the second semiconductor light emitting element and emits the light to the original document from a position where a normal of the document glass is present between the light guide section and the first semiconductor light emitting element.

An apparatus for adjusting the image contrast of a display device, which includes a memory storing first data representing a predetermined image contrast, a driver for driving the display device, an input device for inputting second data representing the image contrast different from the predetermined one, a data-rewriting device for supplying the first data read from the memory and the second data input from the input device to the second data in the memory. In use, the apparatus is be incorporated within an apparatus having the display device, such as a copying machine. The input device is part of the console panel unit mounted on the outer side of the copying machine. The display device displays both the first data and the second data.
