A color conversion layer is provided which is capable of converting light from an emitting medium effectively to light containing a ray having a longer wavelength and exhibits less deterioration so as to have a long lifetime. The color conversion layer comprising a fluorescent medium for converting light emitted from an emitting medium to light having a longer wavelength, and having a haze value of 50% to 95%. The color conversion layer can be made thin, since the layer can efficiently convert the color of light from an emitting medium. The processibility such as patterning thereof is then improved.

An organic EL element () emits light containing a blue component (B) and a component (&#x3b8;) with a peak in 500 to 600 nm. A red converting member () has an excitation spectrum with a peak in 500 to 600 nm. The red converting member receives light from the organic EL element () and converts the blue component (B) to a red component (R). At this time, the luminance of the red component (R) is enhanced since the member () is strongly excited by the component (&#x3b8;). As a result, the white balance of three colors is improved. Therefore a color emission device () can be provided where the intensity of red light is enhanced.

An organic EL display device and a method of producing the same wherein superior connection reliability can be obtained between a thin film transistor and a lower electrode of an organic EL element even if a color-converting medium is provided adjacent light-emitting face of the organic EL element. For this purpose, in an active-driving type organic EL display device comprising an organic EL element made so as to have an organic luminous medium sandwiched between an upper electrode and a lower electrode, and a thin film transistor for controlling luminescence of the organic EL element, the luminescence of the organic EL element is taken out from the lower electrode, a color-converting medium is provided adjacent the lower electrode, and an inclined electrically connecting member is set between the lower electrode and the thin film transistor.
