A non-asbestos frictional material composition is provided, which is capable of provide a frictional material with low environmental load and with excellent friction coefficient, anti-crack properties, and abrasion resistance compared with conventional ones. Furthermore, a frictional material and a friction member formed by using this non-asbestos frictional material composition are provided. The non-asbestos frictional material composition containing a binder, an organic filler, an inorganic filler, and a fiber base material, includes: copper in a content of 5 mass % or less as a copper element; a metal fiber other than a copper fiber and a copper alloy fiber in a content of 0.5 mass % or less; cashew dust in a content of 1.5-4.5 mass % as the organic filler; zirconium oxide with a particle size of 30 &#x3bc;m or less in a content of 30-45 mass % but not containing zirconium oxide with a particle size of more than 30 &#x3bc;m as the inorganic filler.

Non-asbestos friction material composition, friction material using same, and friction member

Provided by the present invention are: a non-asbestos frictional material composition containing a binder, an organic filler, an inorganic filler, and a fiber substrate, wherein, in the non-asbestos frictional material composition, content of a copper is 5% or less by mass as a copper element, content of a metal fiber other than a copper fiber and a copper alloy fiber is 0.5% or less by mass, and a titanate salt is contained therein with antimony trisulfide or zinc powders, with content of the titanate salt being in the range of 10 to 35% by mass; and a frictional material and a friction member that use the said non-asbestos frictional material composition.

The non-asbestos frictional material composition containing a binder, an organic filler, an inorganic filler, and a fiber base material includes: copper in a content of 5 mass % or less as a copper element; a metal fiber other than a copper fiber and a copper alloy fiber in a content of 0.5 mass % or less; iron powder and tin powder as the inorganic filler in a total content of 1-12 mass %. The non-asbestos frictional material composition can provide a frictional material with excellent friction coefficient, anti-crack properties, and abrasion resistance even with the reduced content of copper and a copper fiber that possibly cause environmental pollution. The frictional material and the friction member are formed by using the above-mentioned non-asbestos frictional material composition.

A non-asbestos frictional material composition containing a binder, an organic filler, an inorganic filler, and a fiber base material includes: copper in a content of 0.5 mass % or less as a copper element; a metal fiber other than a copper fiber and a copper alloy fiber in a content of 0.5 mass % or less; cashew dust in a content of 3.5-10.0, wollastonite, and mica. The non-asbestos frictional material composition can provide a frictional material with excellent friction coefficient, anti-crack properties, and abrasion resistance even with the reduced content of copper and a copper fiber possibly causing environmental pollution. Disclosed is a friction material composition, comprising a fiber matrix, a binder, an organic filler, and an inorganic filler, wherein the fiber matrix contains at least two types of mineral fibers different in average fiber length from each other, and the difference between the minimum value and the maximum value among the average fiber lengths of the mineral fibers is 50 &#x3bc;m or more. Also disclosed is a friction material produced by pressure-molding the friction material composition while heating. Further disclosed is a friction material having an underlayer material interposed between a friction surface and a back metal, while the underlayer material is produced by pressure-molding the friction material composition while heating.

The present invention relates to a composition for a friction material that is suitable for the production of friction materials such as disc brake pads or brake linings used for braking automobiles or the like, and also relates to a friction material that uses the composition. The composition for a friction material according to the present invention comprises a fibrous substrate, a binder and a filler, wherein the fibrous substrate comprises at least two types of biosoluble ceramic fibers having different fiber lengths.
