A plasma display device is provided with a plasma display panel and a luminance controller. The luminance controller lowers a luminance on the plasma display panel when there is no change in an input signal for a predetermined position in the plasma display panel within a predetermined time than a luminance when there is a change in the input signal within the predetermined time.

Plasma display device

A plasma display panel is provided which is capable of suppressing the degradation of the fluorescent material layer by discharge and which ensures a long service life. The plasma display panel is obtained by assembling and airtight sealing of a first substrate provided with a plurality of surface discharge electrode pairs arranged so as to form a matrix with a second substrate provided with separating walls and fluorescent material layers disposed so as to conform with said plurality of surface discharge electrode pairs, wherein electrodes of one side of each electrode pair in said plurality of surface discharge electrode pairs are connected to each line bus wire among a plurality of line bus wires formed extending along the line direction on said first transparent insulating substrate, and the electrodes of the other side of each electrode pair in said plurality of surface discharge electrode pairs are connected to each row bus wire among a plurality of row bus wires disposed along the row direction on said first transparent insulating substrate formed extending along the row direction on said first transparent insulating substrate.

Plasma display panel and method for manufacturing the same

A plasma display panel has a pair of insulating substrates (a front substrate and a rear substrate) which face each other. A plurality of surface discharge electrodes, each including a transparent scanning electrode and a transparent maintaining electrode arranged with a surface discharge gap in between, are formed in a matrix form on the front substrate. A plurality of scanning trace electrodes, which are made of metal material, are formed extending horizontally on the scanning electrodes. A plurality of first partition walls are formed vertically extending in stripes between the surface discharge electrodes. A plurality of maintaining trace electrodes, connected to the maintaining electrodes, are formed vertically extending on the first partition walls. The front substrate having the electrodes thus formed thereon is covered with a transparent dielectric layer and a magnesia oxide layer in sequence. Meanwhile, a white dielectric layer, which reflects visible light with high efficiency, is formed on the rear substrate. A plurality of second partition walls are formed vertically extending in stripes on the white dielectric layer. A plurality of phosphor layers are formed between the second partition walls by forming separate stripe coatings of phosphor materials for red, green and blue.

In a surface discharge type plasma display device, lead-out wirings for a plurality of surface discharge electrode pairs of a scanning electrode and sustaining electrodes are arranged such that current flowing directions of adjacent pairs of the surface discharge electrodes during a sustaining discharge period are opposite to each other.

Surface discharge type plasma display device suppressing the occurrence of electromagnetic field radiation

The PDP is divided into a plurality of scan blocks. Immediately before a write discharge period of each scan block, a pre-discharge erasing period or a pre-discharge period and a pre-discharge erasing period is or are established. To minimize the period of time from the pre-discharge to the write discharge, the pre-discharge and the pre-discharge erasing are conducted for each of the scanning and sustaining electrode blocks or in a sequential manner. Furthermore, a first sustaining discharge period of a short time is disposed immediately after the write discharge period for each scan block and a second sustaining discharge period for all display cells is arranged after the write discharge of all scan blocks.

A surface discharge alternating current plasma display panel has a pair of transparent electrodes supplied with current from metal bus electrodes through connecting portions spaced from each other by slits, a dielectric layer covering the pair of transparent electrodes and the metal bus electrodes and a porous insulating layer covering a part of the dielectric layer over the metal bus electrodes; when surface discharge occurs between the transparent electrodes of the pair, the surface discharge is spread toward the bus electrodes; however, the surface discharge can not exceed the slits; for this reason, the surface discharge is concentrated over the transparent electrodes.

High-luminous intensity high-luminous efficiency plasma display panel

An electromagnetic field shielding layer made of an electroconductive material and having windows corresponding to display cells is formed on a substrate on the side of display. Color filters are provided on the windows of the electromagnetic field shielding layer to allow the electromagnetic field shielding layer to exist on boundaries between adjacent color filters. The electromagnetic field shielding layer and color filters may be covered with an insulating body layer.
