For an analysis method, a first specimen and a second specimen are prepared, in which different phthalate esters, for example DEHP and DINP, adhere in different states to a pair of predetermined base films, such as PVC, on metal plates. A metal reflection IR spectrum (P) and a metal reflection IR spectrum (Q) are acquired by radiating electromagnetic waves on the prepared first specimen and the second specimen respectively. Significantly different spectra are obtained for different phthalate esters, and the types of phthalate esters are identified by using such spectra.

An ink-jet printing apparatus comprises a plurality of nozzles that eject ink, the nozzles being grouped into two or more nozzle groups; pressure chambers, each being provided to one of the nozzles; ink-ejection energy generators, each being provided for one of the pressure chambers; and a vibration controller configured to supply a non-ejecting vibration signal to the ink-ejection energy generators of each nozzle group at a different timing. The non-ejecting vibration signal causes the corresponding ink-ejection energy generator to produce energy so as not to cause the ink to eject from the nozzle, but cause the liquid surface of the ink to slightly vibrate in the associated nozzle.

Provisions of a large screen, thin sheet-like display device capable of realizing usages just like paper, a sphere-like resin body made of two semispheres capable of being manufactured easily, and a microcapsule containing electrophoretic particles capable of being manufactured easily. The sheet-like display device has a sheet-like display layer and at least one layer containing an element for activating the sheet-like display layer, the layers being integrally formed. The sphere-like resin body has first and second portions made of resins, the absolute value of a difference between both the solubility parameters &dgr; and &dgr; of the resins being &verbar;&dgr; &gE;0.2. The phoretic particle-containing microcapsule has a resin shell in which phoretic particles are contained in a core. The diameter of the core is in a range from 10 &mgr;m to 200 &mgr;m and the circumferential length L of the microcapsule is in a range of (4.1&times;T)&lE;L&lE;(20.1&times;T) where T is a Martin diameter of the microcapsule.

It is an exemplified object of the present invention to provide such ink that maintains dispersive and preservative stabilities suitable for inkjet ink, an ink storage storing the ink, and a recording device using the ink. The ink of the present invention is aqueous dispersoid ink comprising at least water, a water-soluble organic solvent and a colorant, and the composition thereof is as follows. A ratio R of Kt to Ko (&equals;Kt/Ko) satisfies R&lE;5, where Ko (&equals;Dm/Do) is a ratio of a maximum particle diameter Dm to an average particle diameter Do in said ink, both of which diameters are measured by detecting backscattering light and converting the detection result into a particle diameter under a dynamic light scattering method as a measurement principle. Kt (&equals;Tm/To) is a ratio of a maximum particle diameter Tm to an average particle diameter To in the ink that has been preserved for six months at a constant temperature of 50&deg; C., both of which diameters are measured by the principle and detection method.

Color recording liquid which comprises, in combination, (a) an aqueous, black-colored recording liquid and (b) at least one aqueous, colored recording liquid which has other hue than black, in which said liquid (b), when applied to a recording medium, can be fixed in said recording medium within a shorter time than the time required when said liquid (a) is fixed in the same recording medium, and either or both of said liquid (a) and said liquid (b) are a recording liquid which comprises water having dispersed therein a coloring material consisting of particles of colored, ionic group-containing resin. Using the color recording liquid, it becomes possible to obtain high quality black recording without causing blurring of color, along with high quality color recording having no bleeding of color in a borderline between two adjacent color recording areas of different hues.

An ink jet recording method records an image on a recording medium by adhering inks of a plurality of hues on the recording medium. The ink jet recording method includes the steps of (a) carrying out a recording using two kinds of inks having different diffusibilities with respect to the recording medium for at least a predetermined one of the hues, where a first ink out of the two kinds of inks has a diffusibility which is lower than a diffusibility of an ink having a hue other than the predetermined hue, and (b) at a boundary portion on the recording medium where a first recording region which includes the predetermined hue and a second recording region which includes a hue different from the predetermined hue are adjacent to each other, recording at least a portion of the boundary region with a predetermined recording width up to the second recording region using a second ink out of the two kinds of inks having a diffusibility higher than that of the first ink and recording a remaining portion of the boundary region using the second ink.

Ink jet recording method and apparatus, ink and ink cartridge

Disclosed are a method of and an apparatus for cleaning a plurality of nozzles of an ink jet head. This cleaning method comprises a step of covering a nozzle surface formed with the plurality of nozzles with a cap; a step of depressurizing an air space formed between the nozzle surface and the cap by use of a depressurizing element to suck the inks from the nozzles; a step of stopping the depressurization by the depressurizing element; a step of keeping the nozzle surface covered with the cap so that the inks jetted from the nozzles due to the depressurization wet-spread over the entire nozzle surface by a capillary force; and a step of retracting the cap from the nozzle surface. Further, in this cleaning apparatus, a contact angle .theta.1 between the ink and the cap internal surface and a contact angle .theta.2 between the ink and the nozzle surface are set to 90.degree. or smaller and also set such that .theta.2 is not greater than .theta.1.
