In a molten metal plating apparatus all surfaces of a sinking roller and a supporting roller to be in contact with a molten metal are coated with iron silicide films. A bearing comprises a holder made of a heat resistant steel and lined with a carbon-carbon fiber complex material. A surface of the holder is coated with an Fe,Si film similar to the sinking roller. There is an Fe,Si film on a surface of a shaft portion, and the Fe,Si is in contact with and slides on the carbon-carbon fiber complex material.

Molten metal plating apparatus

An apparatus comprising a plurality of sliding members, at least one of the sliding members being a self-lubricating-function sliding member characterized by containing a precursor compound which produces a solid-lubricating compound during sliding by reacting with an atmosphere in which the sliding member is used or a component of a material with which the sliding member is in sliding contact.

The surface of a member formed of at least one kind of ceramics, metals and C/C composites, is covered with an outermost surface oxide covering layer having a stability against the environment in the atmospheric air at 1500.degree. C.; and a self-recoverable layer as an intermediate layer formed between the outermost surface oxide covering layer and the surface of the member. The self-recoverable layer has an oxidizing rate greater than that of the outermost surface covering layer for recovering cracks generated on the outermost surface covering layer, and a compound produced by the self-recoverable layer has the same phase as in the outermost surface covering layer. To achieve the optimum self-recovering function at high temperatures, the outermost surface oxide covering layer may be made of a stable oxide having a vapor pressure of 1.times.10.sup.-4 /m.sup.2 or less in the atmospheric air at 1500.degree. C., and the oxidized product material from the self-recoverable layer contains an oxide having the same composition as that of the outermost surface oxide covering layer.

Self-recoverable covering material and method for fabricating the same

A slide structure comprises a roll shaft and a roll bearing. A whole circumference of the roll shaft is made of a sintered ceramics body. A sliding surface of the roll bearing is constructed by inserting a cermet into a carbon-carbon reinforcing graphite member. A continuous hot dipping apparatus has a roll supported and rotated in a molten metal bath. A sliding surface of the roll shaft and the roll bearing employs the slide structure. The corrosion resistivity and the wearing resistivity can be improved and a long service life can be attained. The slide structure comprised of the roll shaft and the roll bearing can be smoothly rotated by decreasing the friction coefficient of the slide structure.

Slide structure and continuous hot dipping apparatus having slide

A sliding bearing to be immersed in molten metal has low friction and long life. The bearing is provided with a solid particle trap portion for preventing solid particles in the molten metal from penetrating between sliding surfaces of the shaft and the bearing and removing the solid particles. Abrasive wear and an increase in friction, caused by biting of the solid particles into the sliding surfaces can be prevented. A continuous hot-dip plating apparatus employs the sliding bearing in the molten metal.

The invention relates to a molten metal plating apparatus comprising a roller rotatably supported by a bearing in a molten metal bath, the roller having a shaft sliding portion, the bearing having a sliding portion, both the shaft sliding portion and the sliding portion being made of ceramic sintered body, at least one of both the shaft of the roller and the bearing being made of a ceramic sintered body containing a solid lubricating material. The invention also relates to a die casting machine having a sleeve and a plunger tip both made of ceramic sintered bodies at least one of which contains a solid lubricating material. The bearing for the roller, the sleeve and the tip may be formed of a composite body having a ceramic sintered body portion and and a metal portion secured and fitted thereto by an intermediate member which is elastically and plastically deformed at the time of the usage. The composite structure formed by fitting is usable for other applications.

A continuous hot-dip plating apparatus has a roll assembly having superior resistance to erosion caused by the hot melt plating metal, as well as high resistance to wear of the shaft and bearings, which are immersed in the hot melt of the plating metal. A ceramic material is mounted on the sliding portions of the metallic roll shaft to make sliding contact with the metallic bearings and/or on the sliding surfaces of the metallic bearings which contact the metallic roll shaft. A clearance is left between the shafts and bearings to hold molten metal thereinbetween for lubrication.

Continuous hot-dip plating apparatus

A rolling roll comprises a metal rolling roll body, a ceramic sleeve into which the roll body is inserted with a gap therebetween, thereby providing a working surface of ceramics at an outer periphery thereof, fasteners provided on the roll body at both sides of the sleeve for pressing the side faces of the sleeve thereby to fix the sleeve to the roll body, and at least one spacer having a larger coefficient of thermal expansion than that of the roll body and inserted between the sleeve and the fastener so that the sleeve is axially pressed by the fastener to fix the sleeve to the roll body.
