Traction drive fluids comprise a saturated polycyclic hydrocarbon compound obtained by hydrogenating a trimeric compound of a cyclopentadiene-based condensed hydrocarbon compound resulting from the Diels-Alder reaction of cyclopentadiene and then isomerizing the resulting compound so as to have a pour point of &minus;10&deg; C. or below. The traction drive fluids can be used not only in driving force transmitting mechanisms but also in hydraulic pressure controlling mechanism and friction properties controlling mechanisms of wet clutches.

Disclosed is a traction drive fluid which comprises (A) one or more than two compounds selected from the group consisting of saturated polycyclic hydrocarbon compounds represented by the formulae:

A novel silane compound is disclosed, which is used as a suitable strating material (monomer) of polysilane eligible for the precursor of electroconductive- and photoconductive-materials such as phtoresists as well as polymerization initiators and silicone carbide-based ceramics and which is useful for chemical vapor deposition.

A catalyst useful for the alkylation of isoalkanes is disclosed along with a process therefor the same. The catalyst comprises a zirconium halide and at least one member of the group consisting of sulfate basic sulfate, copper halide, copper nitrate and copper salt of an organic acid. The process for the alkylation of isoalkanes with alkenes is carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising a zirconium halide and at least one member of the group consisting of sulfate, basic sulfate, copper halide, copper nitrate and copper salt of an organic acid at a temperature of room temperature--200.degree. C. and a pressure of atmospheric -5 MPa.

Catalyst for use in the alkylation of isoalkanes

This invention relates to a photoelectric transfer device which comprises a photoelectric transfer element, a cholesteric liquid crystal layer and an ultraviolet cut-off layer, said cholesteric liquid crystal layer being arranged between said photoelectric transfer element and said ultraviolet cut-off layer and said ultraviolet cut-off layer being arranged at the side for the incidence of light. According to this invention, there is provided a colorful photoelectric transfer device which is prepared at an inexpensive cost without a marked decrease in the generation efficiency of the photoelectric transfer element and is fit to be used over a prolonged period.

A method of producing a semiconducting material comprises reacting one or more of halogenosilanes with an alkali metal and/or an alkaline earth metal in an inert solvent to give a condensate and thermally decomposing the condensate. The condensate is dissolved in a suitable solvent such as toluene and tetrahydrofuran and applied by casting to a suitable substrate. The resulting semiconductor material in its film form has an optical band-gap (EO) of usually 0.1-4.0 eV.

A catalyst useful for the alkylation of isoalkanes is disclosed along with a process therefor the same. The catalyst comprises a reaction product resulting from mutual contact of a zirconium halide and a magnesium halide and/or a magnesium oxyhalide. C. and a pressure of atmospheric--5 MPa.

A method for producing a monoalkenyl benzene including reacting an alkyl benzene having 7 to 10 carbon atoms with a conjugated diene compound having 4 to 6 carbon atoms in the presence of a particular catalyst. The particular catalyst is obtained by depositing at least one of sodium, potassium, sodium amide, and potassium amide on a support made of a compound represented by the formula of K.sub.2 O.xAl.sub.2 O.sub.3 wherein x is 0.5.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.11, to obtain a precursor of a catalyst, and contacting the precursor of a catalyst with at least one of water, an alcohol, and a phenol. The precursor of the catalyst may be contacted with hydrogen before contacted with at least one of water, an alcohol, and a phenol.

Method for producing monoalkenyl benzene

A method for producing a semiconducting material by subjecting a hydrosilane monomer to dehydrogenative condensation followed by thermal decomposition is disclosed. The hydrosilane monomer may be a hydromonosilane, a hydrodisilane or a hydrotrisilane. The dehydrogenative condensation is conducted in the presence of a catalyst that contains at least one metal or metal compound of Groups 3B, 4B and 8 of the Periodic Table. The catalyst may be used in conjunction with a silane compound or a metal hydride. The semiconducting material that is formed may have a silicon content of 70 atomic % or more.

A photovoltaic element produced from a product resulting from decomposition of a silicon polymer having an organic substituent of the group consisting of a hydrocarbon group, a halogenated hydrocarbon group, and a silyl group R.sup.3 R.sup.4 R.sup.5 Si- (wherein R.sup.3 -R.sup.5 each are identical or different, including C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl groups and C.sub.6 -C.sub.10 aryl groups). The inventive photovoltaic element is substantially pollution-free and capable of quantity production at a relatively large unit size.

Silicon-containing organic compounds useful as starting materials of functional polymer materials, as well as a process for preparing the same, are provided. Silicon-containing organic compounds and process for preparing same

Polysilanes are produced from hydrosilanes using as a catalyst a mixture of a specific metallocene compound and a specific silyl compound or a mixture of the specific metallocene compound and a specific metallic hydride. This invention can efficiently provide a polymer having a higher degree of polymerization than in case of using a known catalyst.
