An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing having a receptacle for receiving a complementary mating connector. A plurality of conductive terminals are mounted on the housing and have contact portions exposed in the receptacle for engaging appropriate contacts of the mating connector. A metal shell is disposed about at least a portion of the housing. A shutter plate is movably mounted on the housing for movement between a closed position and an open position. In the closed position, the shutter plate substantially closes the receptacle to prevent inadvertent engagement of foreign objects with the contact portions of the terminals. In the open position, the shutter plate allows mating of the complementary mating connector. At least a portion of the shutter plate is conductive to dissipate static electricity at the receptacle. At least one spring is mounted on the housing for biasing the shutter plate toward its closed position. The spring is conductive and is electrically coupled between the conductive portion of the shutter plate and the metal shell to ground the plate to the shell.

Electrical connector with grounded shutter member

An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing, with a plurality of conductive terminals mounted in the housing. At least one of the terminals is a ground terminal. A metal shield is mounted on the housing. An intermediate conductive terminal is mounted on the housing and includes one end engaging the metal shield and an opposite end engaging the ground terminal.

Electrical connector with improved electrostatic discharge system

A connector is provided for terminating a plurality of generally parallel coaxial cables having fine conductor cores. The connector includes a dielectric housing having a slot. A plurality of terminals are mounted on the housing with contact portions spaced along the slot. A wire management member is insertable into the slot and includes a plurality of grooves for receiving the conductor cores and spacing the cores in alignment with the contact portions of the terminals. An actuator engages the wire management member and biases the conductor cores against the contact portions of the terminals.

Connector for coaxial cables with very fine conductors

An electrical connector is disclosed for connecting a flat cable. The connector includes a dielectric housing mounting a plurality of conductive terminals. The housing has a front end adapted for receiving the flat cable in engagement with the terminals, a rear end and opposite sides. An actuator is pivotally mounted on the housing for pivotal movement between a first position allowing insertion of the flat cable into engagement with the terminals and a second position biasing the cable against the terminals. An independent engagement part is mounted on the housing and includes a pivot about which the actuator is pivotable between said positions.

Electrical connector for flat cable

A zero force electrical connector is adapted for terminating a flat cable. The connector includes a dielectric housing mounting a plurality of conductive terminals. The housing has a first end adapted for receiving the flat cable in engagement with the terminals, a rear end and opposite sides. An actuator is mounted to the housing for movement between a first position allowing free insertion of the cable into engagement with the terminals and a second position biasing the cable against the terminals. Complementary interengaging stops are provided between the housing and the actuator near the rear end of the housing for limiting rotation of the actuator relative to the housing in a first direction. Complementary interengaging latches are provided between the housing and the actuator near the front end of the housing for preventing rotation of the actuator relative to the housing in a second direction opposite the first direction.

Zero insertion force electrical connector for flat cable

Disclosed is an improved electric connector having terminals for contacting two circuit elements (34 and 35). Each terminal includes a flat intermediate base mounting section (2) having projections (7) on its opposite sides, a first cantilever contact beam (3) integrally connected to one end of the intermediate base section (2) extending toward the other end of the intermediate base section (2), and a second cantilever contact beam (4) integrally connected to the other end of the intermediate base section (2) extending toward the one end of the intermediate base section (2). The first contact beam (3) has a contact point (8) resiliently pushed against the upper guide wall (23). This will insure that the conductor (35) is sandwiched between the upper guide wall (23) and the contact point (8) making a good electrical connection. Likewise, the second contact beam (4) has a contact point (10) resiliently pushed against the upper wall (24). This will insure that the conductor (34) is sandwiched between the lower guide wall (24) and the contact point (10) making a good electrical connection.

Electric connector terminal and method of marking the same

An electrical contact is disclosed for use in an electrical connector to be surface mounted to a printed circuit board. The contact includes an inverted U-shaped portion defining a pair of depending legs. One of the legs has a foot portion for electrical connection to an appropriate circuit trace on the printed circuit board. A terminal portion is turned upwardly from a distal end of the other leg for termination with an appropriate mating terminal. The contact is in the form of a one-piece metal component. In the preferred embodiment, the terminal portion of the contact is in the form of a terminal pin, with the pin and the legs of the inverted U-shaped portion of the contact all being generally parallel.
