A hydrolyzable group-containing organohydrogenpolysiloxane is prepared by (A) reacting (a) an organosiloxane with (b) an organosilane or organosiloxane containing a hydrolyzable group, at least one of components (a) and (b) containing hydrosilyl, in the presence of a superstrong acid catalyst, (B) adding an inorganic basic neutralizing agent and/or an adsorbent to the resulting reaction solution, and (C) removing the neutralized and/or adsorbed form of the superstrong acid catalyst. The process proceeds in an essentially non-aqueous system, and the organohydrogenpolysiloxane free of residual acidic catalyst is obtainable at low cost.

Preparation of hydrolyzable group-containing organohydrogenpolysiloxane and organopolysiloxane derived therefrom

A polyoxyalkylene-organopolysiloxane copolymer is prepared by reacting a polyoxyalkylene allyl ether with an organohydrogenpolysiloxane in the presence of a platinum group metal catalyst. In one embodiment, a polyoxyalkylene allyl ether having a CPR value of less than 0.5 is used. In another embodiment, a polyoxyalkylene allyl ether having a CPR value of less than 5 is used and an acid is added for neutralization prior to the reaction. The copolymer can be produced while substantially eliminating solvents and additives or minimizing the amounts thereof.

Method for preparing polyoxyalkylene-organopolysiloxane copolymers

A non-chromate aqueous metal surface treating composition is provided comprising water and an organosilicon compound obtained through hydrolysis of a mixture of a hydrolyzable silane bearing a nitrogen-containing organic group or a partial hydrolyzate thereof and another hydrolyzable silane or a partial hydrolyzate thereof. The surface treating composition is applied to steel members, giving surface treated steel members having high corrosion resistance and workability. When an overcoat layer is formed thereon, painted steel members of quality are manufactured.

Fine silica particles surface-treated with a silane and having primary particles having a particle diameter of from 0.01 to 5 &#x3bc;m, which fine silica particles fulfill the following conditions (i) and (ii), a process for their production and an organic resin composition containing such particles as a component are provided. (i) When an organic compound which is liquid at room temperature and has a dielectric constant of from 1 to 40 F/m and fine silica particles are mixed in a weight ratio of 5:1 and shaked, the fine silica particles disperse uniformly in the organic compound, and (ii) the quantity of primary particles remaining as primary particles when methanol is evaporated under heating by means of an evaporator from a dispersion prepared by dispersing the fine silica particles in methanol and thereafter the particles are held at a temperature of 100&#xb0; C. for 2 hours, is in a percentage of at least 20% based on the quantity of primary particles originally present. The present fine silica particles are highly dispersible and low aggregative, and the organic resin composition containing them is useful for obtaining films having a good transparency and superior blocking resistance, slip properties and scratch resistance.

A coating composition comprising a silicone resin having at least two types of fluorinated organic substituent groups and hydroxyl or monovalent hydrolyzable groups forms, through brief curing at low temperature, a uniform transparent coating having a low refractive index (e.g., below 1.42) and a high hardness as well as excellent water repellency, oil repellency, and antifouling property. An external additive for electrostatically charged latent image developing toner is provied. The additive includes spherical hydrophobic fine silica particles having primary particles having a particle diameter of from 0.01 to 5 &mgr;m, which fine silica particles fulfill the following conditions (i) and (ii): (i) when an organic compound which is liquid at room temperature and has a dielectric constant of from 1 to 40 F/m and fine silica particles are mixed in a weight ratio of 5:1 and shaken, the fine silica particles disperse uniformly in the organic compound; and (ii) the quantity of primary particles remaining as primary particles when methanol is evaporated under heating by means of an evaporator from a dispersion prepared by dispersing the fine silica particles in methanol and thereafter the particles are held at a temperature of 100&deg; C. for 2 hours, represents at least 20% of the quantity of primary particles originally present. The external additive does not react or has no interaction with an organic photoreceptor and therefore change in quality does not occur or the photoreceptor is not scraped. Furthermore, it has a good flowability and therefore adhesion of a toner to the photoreceptor does not occur.

A process for producing an organosilicon resin is disclosed. The process includes the steps of equilibrating a mixture of silane compounds of Si(OR.sup.3).sub.4 wherein R.sup.3 's are a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R.sup.2 Si(OR.sup.4).sub.3 wherein R.sup.2 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and R.sup.4 's are a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and R.sup.1.sub.3 SiX wherein X is an --OH group, an --OSiR.sup.1.sub.3 group or a hydrolyzable group, and R.sup.1 's are a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; adding water to the product of the equilibration reaction to carry out hydrolysis reaction; and adding an aqueous alkali to the product of the hydrolysis reaction to carry out condensation reaction. The organosilicon resin obtained is well dispersible in a resin premix containing a polyol, a blowing agent, a catalyst and a foam stabilizer, and also is highly hydrophobic and low reactive. Hence, the resin premix containing the organosilicon resin has good storage stability. Accordingly, this resin premix need not be agitated when used and also can provide polyurethane foams having superior properties such as dimensional stability.

A composition comprising a trifunctional polysilazane and a polysiloxane having at least one hydrolyzable group and an optional fluoroalkyl group is effective for treating substrates to render their surface water repellent, oil repellent, and anti-fouling.

An organic silicon compound is obtained by hydrolyzing (A) a hydrolyzable silane containing an alkoxy or acyloxy group and a nitrogenous organic group: and (B) a hydrolyzable silane containing an alkoxy or acyloxy group. The hydrolyzate or organic licon compound is available as an aqueous solution which is ready for use as a binder composition. An aqueous coating composition comprising the binder composition and optionally, a UV screen compound is also provided. The binder composition and the coating composition are shelf stable and impart water resistance, heat resistance and weatherability.

Water-soluble organic silicon compounds are prepared by effecting co-hydrolysis of (A) 1-30 parts of an alkyltrialkoxysilane of R.sup.1 Si(OR.sup.2).sub.3 or a partial hydrolyzate thereof, (B) 70-90 parts of an alkoxy-containing siloxane of R.sup.3.sub.a (OR.sup.2).sub.b SiO.sub.(4-a-b)/2, and (C) 1-20 parts of an amino-containing alkoxysilane of R.sup.4 R.sup.5 NR.sup.6 --SiR.sup.7.sub.n (OR.sup.2).sub.3-n or a partial hydrolyzate thereof in the presence of an organic or inorganic acid. R.sup.1 is a C.sub.7 -C.sub.18 alkyl group, R.sup.2 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, R.sup.3 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are a hydrogen atom, C.sub.1 -C.sub.15 alkyl or aminoalkyl group, R.sup.6 is a divalent C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 hydrocarbon group, and R.sup.7 is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group. Letters a and b are 0.75.ltoreq.a.ltoreq.1.5, 0.2.ltoreq.b.ltoreq.2, and 0.95&lt;a+b&lt;3.4. These water-soluble organic silicon compounds are fully water soluble and shelf stable and can be used as an agent for preventing porous materials from water absorption simply after dilution with water. Porous materials are coated or impregnated with the compounds so that they are given excellent water repellency and water absorption-preventing effect.

Preparation of water-soluble organic silicon compounds

An aqueous adhesive composition is provided which comprises a water-soluble condensation polymer obtained by subjecting a specific copolymer having an alkoxyl group and a specific alkoxysilane to hydrolysis-condensation, and an aqueous medium containing the condensation polymer. This composition can firmly bond non-sulfur-curable elastomer materials to various adherends such as metals; this has been hitherto difficult. A high-grade adhesion and superior heat resistance and oil resistance can be attained. No organic solvent is contained, promising an environmental safety.
