The invention presents a carbon ink with high electric field emission efficiency that can be applied in an inexpensive printing process suitable for mass production, an improved electron-emitting element for an image display device, and a method for manufacturing the electron-emitting element. The invention also presents an image display device with high image quality and efficiency using this electron-emitting element. The image display device includes a patterned conductor on a substrate, and electron-emitting elements made by applying, to predetermined positions of the conductor, a carbon ink made into a paste with an organic binder and a solvent, the ink comprising (i) carbon particles having a 6-membered carbon ring, and (ii) support particles for supporting the carbon particles, and firing the ink.

A cathode ray tube capable of reducing the doming amount and suppressing the occurrence of moire stripes at the same time with improved effects to suppress the occurrence of moire stripes even more is provided. The protruding portions are protruding from the ends of the horizontal direction of the aperture to the inside of the aperture . With regard to the horizontal cross sections of the protruding portions , the portions facing each other left and right via the aperture are formed to be asymmetrical to the center line in order to reduce or block the incident electron beam. By forming the protruding portions , the doming amount can be reduced and the occurrence of moire stripes can be suppressed at the same time. Furthermore, by forming the portions facing each other left and right of the protruding portions asymmetrically, the effects to suppress the occurrence of moire stripes can be improved even more.

The color cathode-ray tube includes a frame-shaped mask frame and a shadow mask in which many apertures are formed in a flat plate, the shadow mask being stretched and fixed in the mask frame in a condition in which a tension force is applied in one direction. The amplitude in the end portions of the shadow mask is not less than a certain amount relative to the amplitude in the center portion of the shadow mask, in a resonance of the shadow mask caused by a vibration propagated to the color cathode-ray tube. Furthermore, by providing vibration attenuators at the end portions of the shadow mask, vibrations at the end portions of the shadow mask are attenuated as the side surfaces of the shadow mask slide on the vibration attenuators. Method of controlling electron beams in an image display apparatus

A method is disclosed for manufacturing a flat display device including line cathodes arranged at regular intervals, a plurality of flat electrodes arranged so as to be spaced apart by a predetermined distance from one another to control line electron beams generated from the cathodes, and a fluorescent substance which emits a light as a result of a collision of the electron beam. The method includes the steps of: arranging a bar-shaped low-melting glass at a connecting position where the beam generated from the cathode does not pass through; positioning the electrodes and the glass against each other when the electrodes are fixed to connect to the glass; fixing initial connecting portions of the electrodes to the glass, each of which is located outside an outer frame of each electrode; heating and fusing the glass to connect it to the electrodes; and removing the initial connecting portions of the electrodes arranged outside the outer frames of the electrodes from the electrodes.
