The present invention relates to a fuel supplying device for an internal combustion engine having multiple cylinder. The present invention comprises a plurality of fuel injection valves, a fuel pipe through which fuel flows, and a plurality of holder means on the fuel pipe so that the fuel from the fuel pipe is supplied to the holder means. The holder means accommodates the fuel injection valve so that the fuel is supplied to the fuel injection valve, and a start timing of the fuel supplied from the fuel pipe to at least one of the holder means is different from the start timing of the fuel supplied from the fuel pipe to the remaining holder means.

A drive torque T is measured by applying the engine torque T.sub.E to an A/T model, and a driving wheel acceleration d.omega. is obtained by finding a difference of a detected driving wheel speed .omega.. By filtering this driving wheel acceleration d.omega., a post-filter driving wheel acceleration d.omega..sub.0 is calculated. A squat force Ws is calculated from the drive-torque T and the post-filter driving wheel acceleration d.omega., and a friction coefficient .mu. of the road surface is estimated from the squat force Ws. Fuel feed apparatus of internal combustion engine and manufacturing

A control apparatus for use in an internal combustion engine system of a motor vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission having therein a lock-up mechanism. There is included a vehicle resonance reducing section for controlling an opening degree of a throttle valve when the motor vehicle is in an acceleration state so as to reduce a vehicle resonance accompanying an operation of the engine. The vehicle resonance reducing section estimates a torque to be required for the engine on the basis of an accel-operating amount due to the vehicle drive and the engine operating state and corrects the estimated torque by using operation variables of the motor vehicle so as to calculate a target throttle opening degree. Also included in the control apparatus is a lock-up control section for compulsorily locking up the automatic transmission when the vehicle resonance reducing section is in operation. That is, the lock-up control is executed when controlling the opening degree of the throttle valve so as to reduce the vehicle resonance. With this arrangement, it is possible to improve the driveability of the motor vehicle by reducing the vehicle resonance concurrently with enlarging the lock-up region to improve the fuel consumption.

Control system for controlling output torque of internal combustion

A traction control system controls the engine torque so as to prevent wheel slip during acceleration. The system has an electric control unit ECU which detects the state of wheel slip on the basis of the deviation of the drive wheel speed from a target drive wheel speed computed in accordance with signals from various sensors such as drive wheel speed sensors, trailing wheel speed sensors, shift position sensor for sensing the shift position in an electronic control transmission ECT, engine speed sensor and accelerator sensor for sensing the amount of operation of accelerator. The ECU computes, in accordance with the state of the slip, a limit drive torque which does not allow surplus wheel slip during acceleration. The ECU also updates the limit drive torque depending on whether the surplus slip takes place on drive wheels, and detects also the amount of operation of the accelerator so as to inhibit updating of the limit drive torque when the detected amount of operation of accelerator is below a value corresponding to a limit throttle opening, whereby the engine is controlled such that the drive torque applied to the drive wheels is maintained below the limit drive torque.

Traction control system

An apparatus for treating fuel vapor, such as in a motor vehicle fuel tank, by subjecting it to adsorption treatment to prevent its direct emission into the atmosphere. The apparatus according to the present invention comprises a fuel tank, a partitioning wall provided within the fuel tank to define a small fuel storage chamber within the fuel tank, a canister container housed in the small fuel storage chamber, the canister container storing therein a fuel adsorbing material. When fuel feeding takes place, feeding fuel is introduced into the small fuel storage chamber to cool the canister container. However, when the engine is operated, high temperature return fuel is introduced into the small storage chamber to heat the canister container thereby promoting the adsorbing and de-adsorbing action of fuel by the fuel adsorbing material.

In an engine control system which determines the amount of fuel to be injected on the basis of an intake pipe pressure detected downstream of a throttle valve and engine speed (D-EFI), fail-safe action is provided when a failure of an intake pipe on the downstream side of the throttle valve is detected. The fail-safe apparatus of the present invention is designed to signal the occurrence of an abnormality with the intake system when the throttle valve is not being opened, that is, the throttle valve is stationary or is closing, a vehicle speed variation exceeds its specific value and the engine speed exceeds its specific value. When these conditions are detected, engine power is controlled lower, thereby assuring vehicle driving safety.

Fail-safe method and apparatus for internal combustion engines

A system for suppressing discharge of evaporated fuel gas is adapted to introduce the evaporated fuel gas generated in a fuel tank of an internal combustion engine into an intake passage, to suppress the discharge of the evaporated fuel gas into the atmosphere. The system comprises an evaporated fuel gas passage allowing the evaporated fuel gas within the fuel tank to be introduced into the intake passage and a controller variably controlling a cross-sectional area of the evaporated gas passage depending upon an operating condition of the engine. The cross-sectional area of the evaporated gas passage is controlled according to an amount of fuel supplied to the engine. In addition, the cross-section area of the evaporated gas passage may be controlled in response to the operating condition of the engine and may be controlled according to a preliminarily set comparative rotational speed in an idling condition of the engine. Alternatively, the cross-sectional area of the evaporated gas passage may be controlled correspondingly to the operating condition of the engine and, in addition thereto, may be controlled to assume either one of a fully open position and a fully closed position in response to the operating condition of the engine.

A control apparatus for electrically operating a throttle valve adapted to adjust the amount of air drawn into an internal combustion engine to adjust the position of the throttle valve. The position and operating condition of an accelerator pedal are electrically detected to generate a signal in accordance with the accelerator position to drive an actuator adapted to operate the throttle valve, and also a desired throttle position established by the signal, the detected actual position of the throttle valve and the operating condition of the accelerator pedal are suitably compared and examined, thus monitoring to see whether the detection of the accelerator position is not faulty, whether the throttle valve is controlled to follow the desired throttle position and so on and thereby performing a safe control by using a substitute desired position upon occurrence of a faulty condition. A fault detection system for detecting a fault of a subcontrol apparatus as well as a main control apparatus backed up thereby in controlling the operation of an actuator for an internal combustion engine control apparatus such as a throttle control apparatus is disclosed. A second fault detection apparatus for the subcontrol apparatus is made up of a CPU consituting the main control apparatus, so that the fault detection apparatus for the subcontrol apparatus operates under condition that the main control apparatus is normal and the engine is preferably under a light load of operation. Each of the main control and the backup subcontrol apparatuses includes a fault detection apparatus, thereby preventing simultaneous fault of the two control apparatuses for improved safety of the vehicle drive.

An apparatus for controlling intake air flow rate in an internal combustion engine comprises a throttle valve disposed in intake air passage for swing movement to change a flow rate of air to be supplied to combustion chambers of the engine, a stopper portion to which the throttle valve is abutted so as to stop swinging thereof in a full closed portion thereof, a spring for continually urging the throttle valve towards the full closed position, a control unit for determining a desired opening degree of the throttle valve in accordance with requirements on the engine, an actuator for generating a driving force for swinging the throttle valve to the desired opening degree in accordance with a command signal from the control unit, and geared mechanism for transmitting the driving force from the actuator to the throttle valve. The geared mechanism includes a pair of gears, each having a gear tooth portion. The gears are able to engage with each other exclusively at such gear tooth portions. The gear tooth portion so extends that both of the gear tooth portions mesh with each other between full closed position and full open position of the throttle valve, and they are pushed out of mesh with each other over full open position of the throttle valve.
