Provided are a biaxially stretched laminated polyester film and a laminated glass composed of the same. Specifically, the invention is achieved by a biaxially stretched laminated polyester film including 51 layers or more in total, in which a first layer and a second layer are alternately laminated, wherein a polyester (A) constituting the first layer is polyethylene-2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate; a polyester (B) constituting the second layer is a polyester containing at least one of an ethylene terephthalate component and an ethylene naphthalene dicarboxylate component; an average reflectance within a wavelength range of 400 to 750 nm is not more than 25%; an average reflectance within a wavelength range of 800 to 1,200 nm is 50% or more; and a Young's modulus of the film at 90&#xb0; C. is 2,400 MPa or more in at least one direction of the longitudinal direction and the lateral direction of the film.

A multilayered reflective polarizing film is provided that has high polarization performance comparable to that of an absorption-type polarizing plate, and is preferred as a polarizing plate attached to a liquid crystal cell. An optical member for liquid crystal display devices, and a liquid crystal display device formed from such a multilayered reflective polarizing film are also provided. Specifically, the reflective polarizing film includes a uniaxially stretched multilayered film in which a specific aromatic polyester containing (alkylenedioxy)di-2-naphthoic acid as a part of dicarboxylic acid components is used as a first layer, and an optically isotropic polyester having an average refractive index of 1.50 to 1.60 is used as a second layer, and that has a predetermined refractive index difference between the layers. A uniaxially stretched multi-layer laminate film includes 251 or more layers in which a first layer and a second layer are alternately laminated, wherein the first layer is composed of a polyester containing a 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid component; the second layer is composed of a thermoplastic resin having an average refractive index of 1.60 or more and not more than 1.65 and having negative optical anisotropy or isotropy; an S polarization component has an average reflectance of 90% or more relative to the incident polarized light at an angle of incidence of 0 degree and 50 degrees, respectively; and a P polarization component has an average reflectance of not more than 15% relative to the incident polarized light at an angle of incidence of 0 degree and an average reflectance of 20% or more relative to the incident polarized light at an angle of incidence of 50 degrees.

Uniaxially stretched multi-layer laminate film

An object of the present invention is to provide a biaxially oriented film suitable as a reinforcing member for an electrolyte membrane of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell, the film having excellent hot water resistance in a high-temperature and high-humidity use environment and being capable of maintaining the reinforcing effect for a prolonged period of time. The invention resides in a biaxially oriented film for reinforcing an electrolyte membrane of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell, the film being characterized in that the film (i) contains syndiotactic polystyrene as a major component and (ii) has a Young's modulus in at least one of the machine direction and the transverse direction ranging from 4,500 to 8,000 MPa.

A multi-layer stretched film has 251 or more alternating layers which consist of first layers and second layers, wherein the first layers are made of a polyester which contains (i) 5 to 50 mol % of a naphthoic acid component as a dicarboxylic acid component and (ii) a diol having an alkylene group with 2 to 10 carbon atoms as a diol component; and the second layers are made of a thermoplastic resin having an average refractive index of 1.50 to 1.60 and differences in refractive index among a uniaxial stretching direction, a direction orthogonal to the uniaxial stretching direction and a film thickness direction of 0.05 or less before and after stretching, and the film has specific reflectance characteristics for a P polarization component and an S polarization component.

An aromatic polyamide film laminate comprising at least two biaxially oriented films formed of an aromatic polyamide, wherein (1) a film layer A, which is the outermost layer of the laminate, contains inorganic particles produced from hydroxides or carbonates of at least one metal of the groups Ia and IIa of the periodic table, the inorganic particles having an average particle diameter of 80 to 1,500 nm, and has a surface roughness (Ra ) of 1 to 20 nm, and (2) a film layer B, which is the layer opposite to the layer A of the laminate, has a surface roughness (Ra ) of 0.1 to 10 nm, (3) the surface roughness (Ra ) of the film layer B being smaller than the surface roughness (Ra ) of the film layer A by 1 nm or more. According to the present invention, there can be provided an aromatic polyamide film laminate suitable for use as a base film for a magnetic recording medium, which attains high abrasion resistance and high flatness at the same time while having excellent handling properties such as strength, slipperiness and winding property and which also exhibits excellent performance stability under a high-temperature and high-humidity environment; a production process therefor; and a metal-thin-film high-density magnetic recording medium and a multiple-coat high-density magnetic recording medium which have excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics and are suitable for high-density recording by using the aromatic polyamide film laminate.

A biaxially oriented film made from a wholly aromatic polyamide produced by an acid chloride process, which contains at least one member of inorganic particles having an average particle diameter of 5 to 2,000 nm and selected from the group consisting of hydroxides, carbonates and bicarbonates of metals of groups Ia and IIa of the periodic table. The inorganic particles is derived from inorganic particles which are added as a neutralizing agent to a reaction system to neutralize hydrogen chloride by-produced by the acid chloride reaction and its content corresponds to an excess portion added to the reaction system over the amount required for neutralizing the hydrogen chloride stoichiometrically. The film is useful as a base film for a magnetic recording medium, such as a coated, a multi-layer coated, or a thin metal film high-density magnetic recording medium.

A laminated polyester film for use as a film to be laminated on a metal plate, which comprises (A) a first layer formed of (a1) a first aromatic copolyester prepared in the presence of a germanium compound as a polymerization catalyst, which contains terephthalic acid as the main dicarboxylic acid component and ethylene glycol as the main glycol component and which has a melting point in the range of from 210.degree. to 245.degree. C. and a glass transition temperature of at least 60.degree. C. and 10 to 55% by weight of a third aromatic polyester which is composed, as a main recurring unit, of tetramethylene terephthalate and has a melting point in the range of from 180.degree. to 223.degree. C., the second layer having (b2) a surface roughness (Ra) of 15 to 50 nm; and (C) which exhibits excellent moldability when a metal plate laminated therewith is deep-drawn.

A biaxially oriented polyester film made of a polyester composition, (A) which polyester composition comprises (a) an aromatic copolyester having a melting point of 210-245.degree. C., (b) first inert fine solid particles having an average particle diameter of 0.05 to 0.6 .mu.m, and (c) second inert fine solid particles having an average particle diameter of 0.3 to 2.5 .mu.m, the ratio of the average particle diameter of the second inert fine solid particles to the average particle diameter of the first inert fine solid particles being at least 2.5, and the amounts of the components (b) and (c) being 0.01 to 3% by weight and 0.001 to 0.2% by weight, respectively, based on the total weight of the components (a), (b) and (c); (B) which polyester film has a plane orientation coefficient of 0.08 to 0.16; and, (C) which polyester film shows excellent moldability when laminated onto a metal sheet and subjected to deep drawing. A can for drinks, foods, etc. having excellent heat resistance and flavor-retaining property can be produced from a metal sheet onto which the above biaxially oriented polyester film is laminated.

A biaxially oriented laminated polyester film comprising (A) a first layer formed from a first copolyester which is composed of ethylene terephthalate unit as a main recurring unit, and (B) a second layer formed from a polyester composition containing (B1) a second copolyester which is composed of ethylene terephthalate unit as a main recurring unit and (B2) a third (co)polyester which is composed of butylene terephthalate unit as a main recurring unit and is contained in an amount of 1 to 40% by weight or (B3) a filler having an average particle diameter of 2.5 .mu.m or less and is contained in an amount of 5 to 80% by weight in place of the third (co)polyester (B3), the second layer being to constitute a surface to be bonded onto a metal surface when the laminated film is laminated on the metal sheet. This composition can give metal cans, e.g., beverage cans and food cans, excellent in heat resistance, resistance to embrittlement under retort treatment, favor retention, impact resistance and anticorrosive properties.
