An optical transmission device configured from a case that holds an optical element that receives and/or transmits light, the case being provided with a plug insertion hole into which a plug for transmitting an optical signal is inserted; and a shutter mechanism having a shutter that opens and closes the plug insertion hole; wherein the case is provided with an installation part that holds the shutter such that it can rotate freely, and wherein the shutter mechanism can be installed from the outside to the installation part.

The identification terminals are entirely plated with solder, and additionally plated with gold near their extreme ends. This arrangement avoids increase of the contact resistance between the extreme end of the identification terminal and the bulge of the identification terminal , keeping the contact resistance at 30 m&OHgr; or below. The legs of the identification terminals are only plated with solder and not plated with gold. Hence, even if this shared electrical/optical transmission equipment 11 is left in the atmosphere, the solder-plated legs of the identification terminals do not deteriorate in solderability. Consequently, when the shared electrical/optical transmission equipment is mounted on a substrate, the legs of the identification terminals can be soldered easily.

A Jack connector includes: a retainer which holds a semiconductor optical device and an electrical connection terminals; wherein the electrical connection terminals each extend out of the retainer so as to be soldered onto a board; wherein the retainer has recesses provided in a vicinity of the respective terminals so as to accommodate a solder possibly creeping up along the terminals when the jack connector is soldered onto the board.

A light transmission device includes an optical fiber cable having a plug and a holder having a plug insertion hole into which the plug of the optical fiber cable is inserted, wherein an engaging projection is provided on an outer surface of the plug, an engaging groove corresponding with the projection is provided on a wall of the plug insertion hole, and a shutter for closing the plug insertion hole is provided, the shutter being opened and closed in the inside of the plug insertion hole by turning about a pivot extending substantially vertically or parallel to a line composed of an optional point in the groove and a point on a wall of the plug insertion hole rightly opposite to the optional point.
