A data file generation apparatus includes circuitry. The circuitry generates a data file. The circuitry writes the data file to an external storage area that is external to the data file generation apparatus. The circuitry writes identification information of the data file to the external storage area as deletion candidate information indicating a candidate for a file to be deleted. The circuitry deletes the deletion candidate information when the data file is successfully stored in the external storage area.

Control of deleting unnecessary data files after storing generated data files in external storage area

In a scanner system comprising a portable terminal and a scanner device, the scanner device has a mounting portion on which the portable terminal is mounted and electrically connected to the scanner device. The scanner device acquires identification information of the portable terminal when the scanner device detects mounting of the portable terminal on the mounting portion, and transmits a connection request to the portable terminal having the identification information. The portable terminal activates an application for establishing communication with the scanner device in response to the connection request from the scanner device when the mounting of the portable terminal on the mounting portion is detected. Thus, the communication between the portable terminal and the scanner device can be established without operation of a user.

Scanner system

A scanner system includes a scanner, computers sharing the scanner, a network connecting between them, and a scanner controlling apparatus connected between the network and the scanner. The computer includes a device driver to control the scanner and notify the scanner controlling apparatus of an event in the device driver, and an application to control the device driver, and transmit and receive data to and from the scanner controlling apparatus. The application activates the device driver in response to the trigger input from the scanner controlling apparatus. When activating, the device driver receives image data from the scanner controlling apparatus through the application.
