A visible light communication system having a transmission apparatus for modulating a transmission signal to a multiple-value number and a reception apparatus for demodulating a multiple-value modulated transmission signal is provided. The transmission apparatus includes a plurality of light emitters for emitting light in different colors, a chromaticity coordinates calculator for mapping a digital value to a chromaticity coordinates value, and a light intensity controller for controlling a light intensity of each of the light emitters based on the chromaticity coordinates value corresponding to the digital value. An optical pickup includes a light emitting unit, an object lens, and a correction unit. The object lens focuses a beam of light onto a recording surface of an optical disc. The correction unit has a light transmitting surface. A plurality of electrodes are arranged on a plurality of divided areas of the light transmitting surface. The correction unit corrects an aberration caused by a tilt of an optical axis of the beam of light relative to the recording surface of the recording disc by applying voltages to the electrodes. The applied voltages correspond to the tilt of the optical axis of the beam of light. The correction unit also changes phases of the beam of light passing through the divided areas of the light transmitting surface.

Disclosed herein is an optical pickup device and method of adjusting the same. The optical pickup device and method of adjusting the same of the present invention can correct aberrations due to variation of thickness of an optical disc and dispersion of the emission wavelength by a semiconductor laser, which are generated in manufacturing processes of the optical disc and the optical pickup device, correct aberrations generated in recording/reproducing of the optical disc, due to variation of the emission wavelength and secular changes in the environment of the semiconductor laser, simplify and miniaturize the construction of the optical pickup device, and easily reduce manufacturing cost thereof. Optical pickup device and method of adjusting the same

A tilt detector for detecting a tilt amount of a recording surface of an optical disc at a high degree of precision. The tilt detector comprises a light emitting diode for emitting a divergent beam of light to be incident on the recording surface of the optical disc, a collimating lens for collimating the divergent beam of light emitted from the light emitting diode and directing the collimated beam of light onto the recording surface of the optical disc, a condensing lens for condensing the collimated beam of light from the collimating lens, directed onto the recording surface of the optical disc and then reflected from the recording surface, and a photodiode for receiving the collimated beam of light condensed by the condensing lens and detecting the centroid of the intensity of the received beam of light, the photodiode including a receiving surface partitioned into a plurality of areas for receiving the collimated beam of light condensed by the condensing lens.

Tilt detector

Disclosed herein is a light irradiating device, optical pickup device with the same, and method of adjusting the light irradiating device. The light irradiating device has a light emitting device, a lens system and a secondary lens. The lens system narrows light emitted from the light emitting device to a predetermined diameter. The secondary lens is disposed between the light emitting device and the lens system. Each of the light emitting device and the secondary lens is fixed to an arbitrary position on the optical axis while allowing the light emitting device and the secondary lens to move independently along an optical axis. According to the present invention, the light irradiating device can obtain light use efficiency and a uniform light intensity distribution required for recording/reproducing of an optical information recording medium.
