The first object of the present invention is to provide a PDP with improved panel brightness which is achieved by improving the efficiency in conversion from discharge energy to visible rays. The second object of the present invention is to provide a PDP with improved panel life which is achieved by improving the protecting layer protecting the dielectrics glass layer. To achieve the first object, the present invention sets the amount of xenon in the discharge gas to the range of 10% by volume to less than 100% by volume, and sets the charging pressure for the discharge gas to the range of 500 to 760 Torr which is higher than conventional charging pressures. With such construction, the panel brightness increases. Also, to achieve the second object, the present invention has, on the surface of the dielectric glass layer, a protecting layer consisting of an alkaline earth oxide with (100)-face or (110)-face orientation. The protecting layer, which may be formed by using thermal Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method, plasma enhanced CVD method, or a vapor deposition method with irradiation of ion or electron beam, will have a high sputtering resistance and effectively protect the dielectrics glass layer. Such a protecting layer contributes to the improvement of the panel life.

Method of producing plasma display panel with protective layer of an alkaline earth oxide

A PDP with superior light-emitting characteristics and color reproduction is achieved by setting the chromaticity coordinate y (the CIE color specification) of light to 0.08 or less, more preferably to 0.07 or less, or 0.06 or less, enabling the color temperature of light to be set to 7,000K or more, and further to 8,000K or more, 9,000K or more, or 10,000K or more. The PDP is manufactured by a method in which the processes for heating the fluorescent substances such as the fluorescent substance baking, sealing material temporary baking, bonding, and exhausting processes are performed in the dry gas atmosphere, or in an atmosphere in which a dry gas is circulated at a pressure lower than the atmospheric pressure. This PDP is also manufactured by: a method in which after the front and back panels are bonded together, the exhausting process for exhausting gas from the inner space between panels is started while the panels are not cooled to room temperature; or a method in which after the front and back panels are temporarily baked, the process for bonding the panels is started while the panels are not cooled to room temperature. This reduces the time and energy required for heating, resulting in reduction of manufacturing cost.

The present invention intends to provide a manufacturing method for a PDP that can continuously apply phosphor ink for a long time and can accurately and evenly produce phosphor layers even when the cell construction is very fine. To do so, phosphor ink is continuously expelled from a nozzle while the nozzle moves relative to channels between partition walls formed on a plate so as to scan and apply phosphor ink to the channels. While doing so the path taken by the nozzle within each channel between a pair of partition walls is adjusted based on position information for the channel. When phosphor particles is successively applied to a plurality of channels, phosphor ink is continuously expelled from the nozzle even when the nozzle is positioned away from the channels. The phosphor ink is composed of: phosphor particles that have an average particle diameter of 0.5 to 5 &#x3bc;m; a mixed solvent in which materials selected from a group consisting of terpineol, butyl carbitol acetate, butyl carbitol, pentandiol, and limonene are mixed; and a binder that is an ethylene group polymer or ethyl cellulose containing at least 49% of ethoxy group (&#x2014;OCH) cellulose molecules. After dispersion a charge-removing material is added to the phosphor ink.

A method of manufacturing at least two layer electrodes that can be utilized, for example, as bus and data electrodes in a plasma display device, includes depositing each layer in a coating step and subsequently exposing the layers at the same time for development. The layers are subsequently baked at the same time. One layer can be thinner than the other layer during a time period between the developing step and the baking step.

Method of forming electrode layers

To provide a technique for relatively easily preventing yellowing of a PDP that uses silver electrodes, and a PDP utilizing the technique that is capable of displaying images with high luminance and high quality. To form the electrodes, an alloy composed of Ag as a main constituent and a transition metal (at least one selected from Cu, Cr, Co, Ni, Mn, and Fe) is used, or an oxide of such a transition metal is added. Alternatively, an alloy composed of Ag as a main constituent and a metal (at least one selected from Ru, Rh, Ir, Os, and Re) is used, or an oxide of such a metal is added. Alternatively, Ag particles whose surfaces are each coated with a metal (Pd, Cu, Cr, Ni, Ir, or Ru) or a metal oxide (SiO, AlO, NiO, ZrO, FeO, ZnO, InO, CuO, TiO, or PrO) are used.

The present invention provides a plasma display panel in which a space between a first plate and a second plate facing each other is filled with a discharge gas, a plurality of pairs of display electrodes made of Ag or Cu are formed on a surface of the first plate facing the second plate, and the surface of the first plate is covered with a dielectric layer covering the plurality of pairs of display electrodes, where the dielectric layer is made of a glass that contains at least ZnO and 10 wt % or less of RO and does not substantially contain PbO and BiO, and a product of permittivity &#x3b5; and loss factor tan &#x3b4; of the dielectric layer is 0.12 or less, wherein R is selected from a group consisting of K, Rb, Cs, Cu, and Ag.

An object of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing electrodes that can effectively suppress edge-curl when metal electrodes such as bus electrodes and data electrodes are patterned mainly by a photolithography method. In order to achieve the above object, in the manufacturing method in the present invention, an amount of undercut generated by difference in a degree of dissolution caused by developing solution is controlled, and baking is performed at a temperature such that glass in a protrusion formed at side edges becomes soft so as to touch a substrate by gravity. With such method for manufacturing, it becomes possible to make the side edges rounded whose curvature changes continuously.

A manufacturing method for a plasma display panel applies phosphorous ink from a nozzle to channels between partition walls as the nozzle moves relative to the channels. The phosphorous ink is redispersed with a dispenser before being expelled from the nozzle.
