A discharging light quantity adjusting device includes a potential measurement controller that performs: a process of causing a first toner image forming process to charge an image holding member to a first potential and an electrometer to measure an electrostatic potential on the image holding member to obtain a first value, a process of causing a second toner image forming process to charge the image holding member to a second potential and removing a toner image formed by the second toner image forming process, and a process of causing a third toner image forming process to charge the image holding member to a third potential, and causing the electrometer to measure an electrostatic potential on the image holding member to obtain a second value; and a light quantity adjusting unit that adjusts a quantity of a discharging light based on the first and second values.

An image forming apparatus includes: a photoconductor; an electric charging device charging the photoconductor; an exposure device exposing a portion of the photoconductor charged by the electric charging device to light based on image information, to form an electrostatic latent image; a first charge eliminating device emitting light to the photoconductor so as to eliminate an electric charge on a surface of the photoconductor; a second charge eliminating device emitting light to the photoconductor so as to eliminate an electric charge on a surface of the photoconductor, a wavelength of the light emitted by the first charge eliminating device being different from a wavelength of the light emitted by the second charge eliminating device; and a controller selectively operating the first and second charge eliminating devices depending on an image content of the electrostatic latent image in an image forming process.

An ink-jet line printer () is constituted by multiple ink-jet heads (-to-). Actuators (-to-) are arranged so as to be moved between a home position and a print position, and backup mechanisms (-to-) are arranged at home positions. In this ink-jet line printer, the ink-jet heads can be protected and recovered by backup mechanisms, thus making high-speed continuous printing possible. Even though the backup mechanisms are incorporated, a compact apparatus can still be achieved.

An image forming apparatus that includes an image forming component, a flash fixing component and a control component is provided. The image forming component forms toner images using at least two toners respectively having different colors and transfers the formed toner images onto a recording medium. The flash fixing component emits a flash light onto the recording medium onto which the toner images have been transferred by the image forming component and fixes the toner images. The control component that controls the image forming component to form the toner images so that, among the toner images, a second color toner is adhered to a surface of a toner layer formed by a first toner color at a region at which the toner layer formed by the first toner color is formed, the absorbance of the second color toner being lower than that of the first color toner.

A heat roller having a cylindrical sheet-like heating element having a resistance member embedded in an insulating member. The sheet-like heating element is arranged between an inner tube and an outer tube. The outer tube is formed so as to be longer than the inner tube for reducing non-uniformity in heat of the heat roller. The sheet-like heating element is arranged between an inner tube and an outer tube. A heat roller has a cylindrical sheet-like heating element, an inner tube and an outer tube. The sheet-like heating element has a resistance member embedded into an insulating member. The outer tube has a non-linear shape seen in an axial direction. The heat roller is fabricated by supplying pressurized fluid to the inner tube for expanding the inner tube, sheet-like heating element and outer tube toward a die. The die has a non-linear inner shape seen in the axial direction. Therefore, the outer tube of the fabricated heat roller has a non-linear shape. Further, an edge section of the inner tube can simultaneously be formed into a desired shape.
