Ultrasonic flaw detector apparatus and ultrasonic flaw-detection method

An ultrasonic transceiver has a function of displaying a modified B scope. The ultrasonic transceiver transmits ultrasonics to an inner part of a test object at an angle of inclination to a surface of the test object, receives echoes from discontinuity in the test object, and displays, based on an outcome of the reception, an image which shows a state of transmission of the ultrasonics in the test object. When displaying the image, origins of time axes on the screen are shifted through a coordinate transformation of the outcome of reception to avoid the difference in lateral positions of images of single discontinuity. Consequently, it is possible to accurately discern the location, size, configuration, and posture of the discontinuity when the outcome of reception is displayed in a rectangular display window.

Ultrasonic transceiver displaying modified B scope

A detecting device for detecting a physical quantity of an object, which includes a transmission signals generating device for generating first and second transmission signals of different frequencies, an ultrasonic wave transmission device that is excited by the first and the second transmission signal, for transmitting ultrasonic pulses corresponding to the first and the second transmission signal to an object, and a signal processing device for carrying out a signal processing process on the first and the second echo. The signal processing process is such that it detects phases of the first and second echo corresponding to the first and second transmission signal, which are received by the ultrasonic wave receiving device. An indeterminacy integer times as large as 2.pi. of the phase of each of the first and second echo is determined on the basis of the information of the amplitudes of the first or the second echo, and a distance from the ultrasonic wave transmission device through an object to the ultrasonic wave receiving device along an ultrasonic wave propagating path is detected on the basis of the determined phase of the first or second echo.

Apparatus and method for detecting a measurable quantity of an object

An ultrasonic detecting apparatus which includes a sequence generating means and a transmission signal generating means for generating a transmission signal corresponding to the sequence. The detecting apparatus also includes a transmitting means to transmit waves, which may be ultrasonic waves, to an object and a receiving means for receiving an echo corresponding to the transmission signal. A correlation operation means performs a correlation operation with respect to the echo. In another general aspect, the sequence generating means may generate more than one sequence, some of whose auto-correlation functions produce substantially zero sidelobe in the summed result. In a further general aspect, the sequence generating means generates two or more sequences, with each of the sequences being different from the others and having substantially the same auto-correlation function as the others.

Echo based detecting apparatus employing signal generator and correlator

An ultrasonic detecting apparatus which includes a generator which generates more than three transmission signals. The detecting apparatus also includes a transmitter/receiver which transmits waves, which may be ultrasonic waves, to an object and receives echoes corresponding to the transmission signal. A correlator performs correlation operations with respect to the echoes. The results of the correlation operations are processed to obtain a signal with substantially zero side lobes.

Apparatus and method for detecting flaws in and inspecting an object

An inspection apparatus utilizing a pulse compression technique is described which comprises a signal generator, a transmission/reception probe; first and second correlators and an adder. The signal generator generates a composite transmission signal consisting of signals Sap(t), Saq(t), Sbp(t) and Sbq(t) respectively based on a basic unit signal ga(t) and a sequence {p}, the signal ga(t) and a sequence {q}, a basic unit signal gb(t) and the sequence {p}, and the signal gb(t) and the sequence {q}, to the probe to transmit the composite transmission signal to a target. The first correlator performs a correlation operation of echo signals Rap(t), Raq(t), Rbp(t) and Rbq(t) corresponding to the signal Sap(t), Saq(t) and Sbq(t) by utilizing reference signals Ua(t) and Ub(t) based on the sequences to provide results Caap(t), Caaq(t), Cbbp(t) and Cbbq(t). The second correlator performs a correlation operation of the results Caap(t), Caaq(t) Cbbp(t) and Cbbq(t) by utilizing the sequences {p} and {q} to provide compressed pulses Caapp(t), Caaqq(t), Cbbpp(t) and Cbbqq(t). These pulses are summed up at the adder to provide a composite compressed pulse C having the large amplitude main lobe and small amplitude side lobes.

Inspection apparatus

A plurality of cells include standard circuits having no power source line and no ground line and having signal terminals supplied with signals and power source terminals connected to a power source. Each of the cells is rotated in a desired direction and placed so as to reduce to a minimum the distance between the terminals of said cells and the corresponding terminals of another cell connected to those of the former cell and the cells are arranged in contact with each other. A plurality of wiring layers are arranged to connect the signal terminals of the cells together and the power source terminals thereof together. The wiring layers are insulated from the cells and placed above the cells.

An ultrasonic non-destructive inspecting apparatus is constructed to comprise a transmission signal generator, an ultrasonic probe, a correlator and an adder wherein a transmission signal based on a sequence is generated and transmitted to a specimen, its echo is correlation processed with an appropriate reference signal, and the results of the correlation processes are summed to judge a reflection matter within the specimen.

Detecting apparatus

An ultrasonic flaw inspecting apparatus is provided in which the transmission signals comprising N number of the binary code sequences having sharp autocorrelation functions are input to an object to be inspected by a single transducer for transmission and the reflected signals are received by N number of transducers for reception. The N number of transducers for reception are connected and placed over each other so that the direction of respective polarization is inverted in terms of the time order of the binary code of the sequence.

Ultrasonic insection apparatus

A method of reliably detecting flaws in a thick wall steel pipe with an ultrasonic beam in which flaws of the internal surface of the pipe are detected using a shear wave mode. The transmitting probe is disposed slantingly relative to both the longitudinal and transverse directions of the pipe so that the shear wave emitted therefrom is incident onto the pipe at a refraction angle of 35 to 70 degrees, whereby the beam inside the walls of the pipe is made to impinge on surface flaws of the inner surface of the pipe at an angle in the same range.

An automatic flaw detection apparatus comprises a supporting frame; a hollow shaft which is supported on said frame in a freely rotatable manner through a bearing, and through the interior of which passes a material to be inspected; a holder disposed within said hollow shaft, and extending in the longitudinal direction of the axis of said hollow shaft, and rotating in association with said hollow shaft; sensing means incorporated in said holder to detect any defect in said material to be probed; and a signal transmission device interposed between said hollow shaft and said supporting frame, and to transmit the flaw detection signal from said sensor means to outside.
