A honeycomb structure includes a pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body having a porous partition wall defining a plurality of cells serving as fluid through channel extending from an inflow end face to an outflow end face; and a circumferential wall surrounding the partition wall, wherein in a plane orthogonal to cell extending direction, the honeycomb structure body has a circumferential cell structure, a center cell structure having a cell structure different from the circumferential cell structure, and a boundary wall, the honeycomb structure body has intersection parts of the partition wall, including basic intersection parts and thick intersection parts having a thickness larger than that of the basic intersection parts, the thick intersection parts include at least one of: first thick intersection parts and second thick intersection parts, and in the circumferential cell structure, the intersection parts at least include the circumferential basic intersection parts.

Honeycomb structure

A pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body of a honeycomb structure includes a circumferential cell structure, a central cell structure and a boundary wall therebetween. On a surface orthogonal to the cells there are a circumferential reinforcing region having the partition wall thicker than a basic partition wall thickness in the circumferential cell structure and existing outside a range of a distance from a centroid of the surface; and at least one of a first boundary reinforcing region having the partition wall thicker than the basic partition wall thickness and existing in a range of a distance from the centroid within a range of the circumferential cell structure and a second boundary reinforcing region having the partition wall thicker than a basic partition wall thickness in the central cell structure and existing outside of a range of a distance from the centroid within a range of the central cell structure.

The plugged honeycomb structure includes a plurality of honeycomb segments, a bonding layer, and plugging portions which plug open ends of cells of each honeycomb segment, and in the honeycomb segment, at least two types of cells having different sectional shapes are formed to constitute predetermined repeated arrangement patterns, and a ratio of a value R2s obtained by dividing an average sectional area S2of inflow cells by an average sectional area S2of outflow cells in a partial rim circumferential wall cell region is in a range of 1.7 times or more and 2.0 times or less to a value R1s obtained by dividing an average sectional area S1of the inflow cells by an average sectional area S1of the outflow cells in a whole rim partition wall cell region.

A honeycomb structure has a pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body having porous partition walls which defines cells which forms a passage of liquid extended from an inflow end face toward an outflow end face, a circumferential wall arranged to surround a circumference of the partition walls. The thermal expansion coefficients of the outer circumference coating layer and the thermal expansion coefficient at 25 to 800&#xb0; C. preferably meet a relationship represented by the expression: 1.1&#x3c;(the thermal expansion coefficient of the outer circumference coating layer/the thermal expansion coefficient of the honeycomb substrate)&#x3c;40.

A corrosion resistant member has a chemical conversion treatment film with a two-layer structure formed atop a metal substrate plated with zinc or zinc alloy plating. The two-layer structure comprises a lower layer containing Cr formed on the surface of the plating and an upper layer containing SiO.
