An image processing apparatus includes a designating section for designating an arbitrary region or an arbitrary position of an image; a specifying section for specifying an object region which is present in the designated region or position, and which can additionally be in a vicinity of the designated region or position, from pixel information in the designated region or position; a determining section for determining an image region to be cut out from the image, based on the specified object region; and a cutting section for cutting out the determined image region from the image.

A method and device for generating a character line of uniform width throughout character size conversion includes predetermining an offset value corresponding to a target line width; adjusting a line width of each character part to the target value without consideration of respective line widths; obtaining coordinate data by reading coordinates of a dot sequence of each character part; reading an offset value corresponding to a character size after coordinate transformation on the basis of the read-out coordinate data. A reference point for a character part from the coordinate data is selected and coordinates of the dot sequence of the character part are transformed to a specified size. A character part font is generated using the transformed dot sequence and superimposing a character part font onto another character part for plotting a character.

Method and device for generating a character line of uniform width

An auto-correlation unit for pattern recognition to obtain auto-correlation functions as for sampled signals is disclosed N pieces of sample values X.sub.n (n=0 to N-1)are extracted from a series of the sample values expressed with an accuracy of optional multi-bits and the auto-correlation coefficients of these N pieces of the sample values obtained. The sum of sample values X.sub.n and X.sub.n-.tau. (.tau.=0 to P) are calculated. The squared value (X.sub.n +X.sub.n-.tau.).sup.2 of the added results is previously memorized in a ROM while being addressed by the resultant sum. The auto-correlation coefficients are available by feeding the output (X.sub.n +X.sub.n-.tau.).sup.2 of the ROM and executing calculation as defined by the following equation: ##EQU1##

Auto-correlation circuit for use in pattern recognition

Inputted voice signals are analyzed in units of syllables. Each syllable is compared with standard syllables preregistered in a memory and thereby recognized but corrections may be made on erroneous recognitions by referencing a dictionary or entering a command. Each standard pattern is associated with phonological information on the neighborhood in a voice signal from where it was extracted and may be updated by another pattern having the same phonological information. Temporal sequences of correct and erroneous recognitions of individual syllables as well as whole syllables are stored and referenced in determining whether a standard pattern should be updated. A maximum pattern number may be set for each syllable.

In a speech analysis/recognition system, the input utterance is also directly registered (stored) for later readout verification of correct start and end control signals.

Speech recognition executes the final matching operation for each characteristic pattern according to the preliminarily selected order prior to the final matching, where any further calculation in reference to such a characteristic pattern is not executed after a specific condition has been satisfied during the matching calculation, and as result, calculation requirements can be drastically minimized so that the speech recognition can eventually be implemented at higher speed and yet under a sharply reduced cost.

In a speech recognition system, similarity calculations between speech feature patterns are reduced by stopping similarity calculations for any one reference pattern when a frame in the pattern fails to exceed a corresponding similarity threshold.

Speech recognition using self-correlation (auto-correlation) parameters and time normalization is improved by first making a preliminary decision using lower-order (zeroth to third) self-correlation coefficients derived from the self-correlation function of order m: ##EQU1## where .phi.(0) is the power, .phi.(1) is the linear or first order coefficient, and so on.

Recognition of speech or speech-like sounds

An ink jet system printer of the charge amplitude controlling type prints a desired symbol in a dot matrix fashion on a recording paper. Dots for forming a column of the dot matrix are formed in an up and down manner in order to increase the distance provided between two adjacent travelling ink droplets. When a first ink droplet is directed to a dot position higher than a dot position to which a following ink droplet is directed, the positions must be separated on the recording paper by at least a first deadzone of a first dimension. When a first ink droplet is directed to a dot position lower than a dot position to which a following ink droplet is directed, the positions must be separated on the recording paper by at least a second deadzone. The second deadzone is shorter than the first deadzone.

A multi-item input/output display device is disclosed which includes a sheet bearing a plurality of markings indicative of respective items, a display matrix array provided for respective ones of the item markings on the sheet, a scanner for sequentially scanning those display elements in the array and a light pen carrying a light sensor and adapted to develop a code signal indicative of a specific selected item when the specific item is illustrated with the light pen, the code signal applied from outside being displayed by those display elements.

Multi-item input/output device to input information to and retrieve

A microfiche retrieval scheme having input means for introduction of index information indicative of desired subjects for retrieval, store means which provide pieces of frame address information for one or more microimages concerning the desired subjects in response to the index information and an optical system for projecting the selected microimages onto a viewing screen in accordance with the thus delivered frame address information. The above scheme further comprises a printer adapted to print out information contained on the microimages selected and transmitted to the optical system, a print control adapted to control the microfiche retrieval scheme and the printer and means for providing for the print control a signal indicating the printing out of the information of the selected microimages or that of their next succeeding microimages.
