A thermal head for a thermal recording machine including an insulating substrate which is composed of a printed circuit board made of a heat resistant resin and covered with a copper film, a plurality of thermal resistors disposed on the insulating substrate in the direction corresponding to the scanning, discrete electrodes electrically connecting first ends of the thermal resistors to a control element, a common electrode electrically connecting the other ends of the thermal resistors together, a heat releasing layer formed of the copper film of the insulating substrate on the lower portions of the thermal resistors, and a thermal accumulating layer of a polyimide resin covering the heat releasing layer.

A thin film magnetic head includes yokes for leading magnetic flux of signals generated from a magnetic recording medium up to a magnetic resistance effect element. The yokes are made of sputtered films having internal compressive stress therein. The internal stress in the yokes which are deleterious to the magnetic properties of the magnetic resistance effect element can be negated or reduced by including a film of material on the yokes for compensating for the internal stresses.

The yoke thin film magnetic head according to the present invention includes yokes for leading the magnetic flux of signals generated from the magnetic recording medium up to the magnetic resistance effect element, which yokes are made of sputtered films having compressive stress therein. Therefore, the internal stress in the yokes which cause bad influences upon magnetic properties of the magnetic resistance effect element can be negated or reduced, with less Barkhausen noises produced.

A Co-Cr perpendicular magnetic recording medium includes a chromium oxide film formed on a Co-Cr perpendicular magnetization film, and a SiO.sub.2 protective film formed on the chromium oxide film. The chromium oxide film is formed by conducting a heating treatment to the surface of the Co-Cr perpendicular magnetization film in an oxygen atmosphere of about 10 .sup.-4 to 10.sup.-3 Torr, at a temperature of about 300.degree. An improved method of manufacturing a thin film magnetic head, which includes the steps of forming an electrically conductive material coil layer on a substrate of a magnetic material, applying onto the electrically conductive material coil layer, an insulation layer of SiO.sub.2, Si.sub.3 N.sub.4, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and the like by sputtering, plasma chemical vapor deposition process, etc., and further forming a coating layer of SiO.sub.2 on the insulation layer by spin-coating process for flattening the upper surface of the insulation layer.

Disclosed is a magnetic head core material having very high corrosion resistance even under severe conditions and a method for preparing the same. The material consists of 3 to 6 wt % of aluminum, 7 to 12 wt % of silicon, not more than 3 wt % of chromium and the substantial balance being iron.

A Co-Cr perpendicular magnetic recording medium includes a chromium oxide film formed on a Co-Cr perpendicular magnetization film, and a SiO.sub.2 protective film formed on the chromium oxide film. The chromium oxide film is formed by conducting a heating treatment to the surface of the Co-Cr perpendicular magnetization film in an oxygen atmosphere of about 10.sup.-4 to 10.sup.-3 Torr, at a temperature of about 300.degree. C. to 400.degree. C. for about two hours. The chromium oxide film has a thickness of about 20 to 200 .ANG.. The SiO.sub.2 protective film has a thickness greater than 50 .ANG., but the total thickness of the chromium oxide film and the SiO.sub.2 protective film is selected between 70 and 300 .ANG..

A production method for producing a high permeability alloy film which includes evaporating an alloy material composed of 1-6 wt % Al, 20-35 wt % Si, and the remainder of iron by irradiating the alloy with an electron beam, and then depositing the vapor from the alloy material onto a substrate for a predetermined time to produce an alloy film composition having a high permeability. The vapor deposition onto the substrate is preferably intercepted with the shutter until the concentration of aluminum of the vapor to be deposited has been decreased to a value between 20 and about 4 wt %.
