A tool transfer system configured to transfer a tool between first and second tool holding devices by causing the first and second tool holding devices to be moved relative to each other. The first tool holding device includes a clamp sleeve forced in a direction toward the second tool holding device so as to be positioned in a clamping position. The second tool holding device includes: a hole defining member defining a receiving hole that is to receive the tool; and a movable engaging member that is movable between a working position and a non-working position depending on movement of the hole defining member. The movable engaging member is engageable with the clamp sleeve, while being positioned in the working position, such that the clamp sleeve can be moved, by engagement of the movable engaging member with the clamp sleeve, so as to be positioned in an unclamping position, during relative axial movement of the first and second tool holding devices toward each other.

There is disclosed a roller burnishing apparatus including a first member moved relative to an object to be burnished, a second member movable relative to the first member in a relative movement direction, a burnishing roller held by the second member such that the burnishing roller is rotatable, a biasing device which biases with a biasing force the second member relative to the first member in one of two opposite directions along the relative movement direction, and a pressing-force detecting device that detects a pressing force with which the burnishing roller is pressed against the object and which is based on the biasing force of the biasing device.

A reamer including; a generally cylindrical cutter body having (a) a flute formed in an outer circumferential surface of the cutter body and extending from an axially distal end of the cutter body toward an axially proximal end of the cutter body, (b) a cutting blade portion positioned at a longitudinally distal end of a downstream one of widthwise opposite edges of the flute as viewed in a rotating direction of the reamer, and (c) a guide portion having a guide surface which is circumferentially adjacent to the flute and which circumferentially extends over at least 240&deg; about an axis of the cutter body. The guide surface is a part of the outer circumferential surface of the cutter body.

A tool holder device including a first and a second member having respectively a projection and a bore which are engageable with each other. The second member has an annular groove which partially defines the bore and is coaxial with the bore. The projection has a through-hole in which are received two engaging members having respective inclined surfaces which are abuttable against with an inclined surface of the annular groove when the two engaging members are moved away from each other upon rotation of a threaded member which engages at least one of the two engaging members. The inclined surfaces of the engaging members and annular groove permit a tight fit between the projection and bore, for removable connection of the first and second members.
