Storage drives of a plurality of types are mounted on a storage device together. A storage apparatus includes: an I/O controller that receives an access request sent from an information apparatus and writes data to or reads data from a storage drive; a storage drive mounting unit in which the storage drive is detachably mounted; a drive power supplying unit that supplies drive power to the storage drive mounted in the storage drive mounting unit; and a drive voltage identifying unit that identifies a voltage allowing data write to or data read from the storage drive mounted in the storage drive mounting unit, by raising a drive voltage applied to the storage drive from a voltage below a rated drive voltage of the storage drive. When the I/O controller writes data to or reads data from the storage drive, the drive power supplying unit applies the identified voltage to the storage drive to drive the storage drive.

The local memory stores association information representing the correspondence between the plurality of logical units and the plurality of cores. Each of the plurality of cores processes the command to the logical unit to be handled by a self core based on the association information and executes I/O processing of the data to the logical unit.

In a network regulated so that the unique identification information for a basic storage apparatus and that of each of a plurality of additional storage apparatuses do not overlap, the storage apparatuses can be connected to the network without being assigned unique identification information. The basic storage apparatus judges, when an additional storage apparatus is powered-on, whether or not an initial value is set in an identification information setting unit in the additional storage apparatus, the identification information setting unit being where unique identification information in the network is set. If it is judged that an initial value is set in the identification information setting unit, the basic storage apparatus enters a first mode in which it creates unique identification information, replaces the initial value with the created identification information, and recognizes the created identification information as unique identification information in the network. If it is judged that a value other than the initial value is set in the identification information setting unit, the basic storage apparatus recognizes that value as unique identification information in the network.

Storage system and method for connecting additional storage apparatus

Proposed is a storage controller and its control method for speeding up the processing time in response to a command in a simple manner while reducing the load of a controller that received a command targeting a non-associated logical volume. This storage controller includes a plurality of controllers for controlling the input and output of data to and from a corresponding logical unit based on a command retained in a local memory, and the local memory stores association information representing the correspondence of the logical units and the controllers and address information of the local memory in each of the controllers of a self-system and another-system. Upon receiving a command sent from a host computer, the controller determines whether the target logical unit is associated with the controller of a self-system or another-system based on the association information, and, when the logical unit is associated with the other-system controller, the controller transfers and stores the command to and in the corresponding other-system controller based on the address information.

Storage controller and control method thereof

The storage control device of the present invention switch-connects each of enclosures and individually stops the transmission of power to the enclosures that are not being accessed in order to reduce the power consumption amount. A plurality of additional enclosures are switch-connected via an inter-device switch to a base enclosure. Drives that have not been accessed for a predetermined period of time or more undergo spindown. If all the drives in the enclosure then assume the spindown state, the supply of power to each of the drives from the intra-enclosure power supply is stopped. In cases where all the drives in a certain enclosure have undergone spindown, the base enclosure turns OFF the switch in the power distribution circuit connected to this enclosure. As a result, the transmission of power to this enclosure is stopped. The fault diagnosis section detects a fault that has occurred with communications that employ the inter-device switch and specifies the point of the fault occurrence.

Storage control device and enclosure-unit power control method

A storage system connected to a host device from which IO commands are sent comprises a plurality of load devices that act as loads including a plurality of storage devices, a current measuring unit that measures a current value flowing into the plurality of load devices, a power calculating unit that calculates at each time a power consumption value consumed by the plurality of load devices based on the measured current value, and a controller that receives an IO command from the host device, and accesses a storage device that follows the IO command out of the plurality of storage devices. The controller carries out power consumption control such that the calculated power consumption value is not more than a predetermined allowed power value and a difference between the power consumption value and the allowed power value is as small as possible.
