To provide a light guide member such that more uniform brightness can be ensured in a wide region. A light guide member according to the present invention that receives light through side surfaces and outputs the light through main surfaces includes recesses formed by a machine in at least one of the main surfaces in a groove-like or dot-like shape, the recesses having bottom surfaces formed of molten material at the deepest part of the recesses. Thus, there can be provided the light guide member that has the groove-like or dot-like recesses with the bottom surfaces formed by a molten mark and that can output light with more uniform brightness through the main surfaces when a wide region is observed.

A light emitting apparatus in which light of different colors can be irradiated depending on the locations of a light guide member used in the light emitting apparatus and in accordance with the environment of a facility or a user's demand, a light source member includes a plurality of light source members each with one or more light sources, and adjacent light source parts emitting light of different colors with each other. The light guide member includes a recess which is formed between the respective input surfaces through which the light from the corresponding light source parts is input and which has a recess side surface that reflects at least some of the light input through the input surfaces; a plurality of extension parts that respectively guide mainly the light input from the corresponding light source parts through the input surfaces; and a cutout portion formed between the extension parts.

Even though no light source is provided in the vicinity of each curved apex of a main face, the brightness difference depending on the location on the main face is reduced, and a light guide plate that contributes to electric power saving can be provided. A display and a traffic sign including the display that can keep a small brightness difference depending on the location on the main face, and reduce the power consumption. The ratio of the area of the first diffusion dots and second diffusion dots within the second diffusion region is greater than the ratio of the area of the first diffusion dots within the first diffusion region. Even though no light source unit is provided at a curved section, the brightness difference (the unevenness of brightness) depending on the location on the entire main face is reduced, and electric power saving can be achieved.

A method for manufacturing a light guide plate, such as a sign or guide display board, that guides light incoming from a side surface of a substrate thereof and guides the light outgoing from a major surface thereof. The method includes arranging fabrication dots in a matrix shape at a rectangular distal surface of a ultrasonic fabrication horn, forming, on a major surface of the light guide plate substrate, reflection dots corresponding to the fabrication dots on the distal surface upon pressing the distal surface of the ultrasonic fabrication horn to the major surface of the light guide plate substrate, and forming the reflection dots in a prescribed range on the major surface of the light guide plate substrate by repeating formation of the reflection dot upon correlative movement of the ultrasonic fabrication horn within the major surface with respect to the light guide plate substrate.
