An improved rear hub for a bicycle, comprises: a tubular extension provided at a hub shell having a pair of first and second hub flanges and extending axially outwardly of the first hub flange, the extension carrying an inner member sleeved onto the outer periphery of the extension and fixed thereto; a plurality of through bores formed at an axially intermediate portion of the inner member; and pawl accommodating chambers which are formed by the through bores and the outer periphery of the extension and within which pawls are accommodated and retained, so that a cylindrical outer member having at least one sprocket is supported to the inner member in a relation of being unidirectionally rotatable through the pawls and ratchet teeth provided at the inner periphery of the outer member.

Disclosed is an improvement in a rear hub for a bicycle, which hub has an inner member at one axial end of a hub shell, a cylindrical bearing member mounted on the inner member axially outwardly thereof, and an outer member having at least one sprocket and being supported unidirectionally rotatably to the inner member through a pair of first and second bearings. A tubular receiving portion for receiving the cylindrical bearing member is formed axially outwardly of the inner member, and a fitting portion having an inner periphery of a larger diameter than an outer diameter of the receiving portion is formed at the central portion of the cylindrical bearing member, to form an annular space between the outer periphery of the receiving portion and the inner periphery of the fitting portion. A derailleur for a bicycle comprising four members: a stationary member, first and second linkage members and a movable member. They are arranged in the form of a pantograph mechanism. Associatd with this mechanism is a pivotal member and a spring means which may be attached to any one of the members except the second linkage member. A Bowden cable having an inner wire and an outer sheath is attached between the pivotal member and the second linkage member so that the spring means serves as both a return spring for the pantograph mechanism and as a lost motion connecting means when it is a not possible to immediately shift the derailleur.

A derailleur in which a movable member is freely movable in its forward movement in a given range with respect to a base member without being subjected to action of a return spring, whereby when a control wire is pulled by a control lever, the stroke of the pull-operation, over the free rotation range, allows the movable member to move forward and the movable member, at the terminus of its forward movement, is movable forward freely within the given range such that it may be pulled by the tension of a bicycle chain engaging with a sprocket to complete a partially completed shifting operation.

A front derailleur of the link type is described comprising a base member fixed to a seat tube by fixing means, two linkage members pivoted swingably to the base member, and a movable member pivoted to the linkage members and having a chain guide, the linkage members having first end portions pivoted to the base member and second end portions pivoted to the movable member, the second end portions being positioned upward from the seat tube with respect to the base member, the chain guide pivoted to the second end portions being supported upward from the base member, whereby when the linkage members swing, the chain guide moves axially with respect to the chain gears in a path curved upward in a circular arc.

A rear derailleur for a bicycle, which is provided with a holder connected between a fitting member fixed to the bicycle frame and a pantograph mechanism supported to the fitting member through a transverse stud. The holder offsets the position of a movable member with respect to the fitting member, or in other words, the position of the movable member with respect to each sprocket at the freewheel, so that when the movable member is moved axially of the freewheel to switch a driving chain to a selected sprocket, the movable member is moved radially of the freewheel. Therefore the movable member, when moved axially of the freewheel for switching a driving chain to a selected one of the sprockets, is moved radially of the freewheel.

A front derailleur for a bicycle, which is used for switching a driving chain to at least two sprockets provided at a crank, comprises a fitting member fixed to the bicycle frame extending substantially vertically of the bicycle body, a speed-change mechanism having a chain guide and connected to the fitting member, a first adjusting device for adjusting the chain guide in its position with respect to each of the sprockets in radial direction thereof, a second adjusting device for adjusting an angle of the line extending longitudinally of the chain guide with respect to the axis of each of the sprockets, and a holding device for fixing a support of the shifting mechanism at a desirable position on a fitting face of the fitting member, the fitting member being fixed non-movably at a given position of the bicycle frame with the shifting mechanism being adjusted by being moved longitudinally of the bicycle frame and on a plane perpendicular thereto, so that the chain guide may be positioned most properly with respect to each of the sprockets.

Front derailleur

A front derailleur for a bicycle, which is used to switch a driving chain to each of at least two sprockets, is provided with a fixing member, a chain guide and an adjuster provided between the fixing member and chain guide. The chain guide is supported with respect to the fixing member in relation of being movable axially of the sprockets and toward at least two positions corresponding to the sprockets respectively, and the adjuster is capable of desirably adjusting the chain guide in its position with respect to the fixing member correspondingly to each of the sprockets in use and has a sustainer for maintaining the adjuster position of the chain guide.

A derailleur serves to change the speed of a chain driven vehicle by moving a change-over frame having a tension and a guide pulley, the change-over frame being formed of a single plate and provided with a chain holder positioning radially outwardly of the guide pulley and keeping engagement of a driving chain therewith. Interaction between the change over frame and chain during the shifting of speed is substantially reduced. Chain position is maintained by means of a chain holder reducing chain interference with the change over frame. The chain may be removed with a minimum effort without special tools.

A speed changing device is described for a bicycle or other chain driven vehicle comprising a lever at the steering side, a derailleur having a chain guide switching a driving chain to one of several multi-speed sprockets, a control cable comprising an inner wire transmitting the lever action to the derailleur for operating the chain guide and an outer sheath guiding wire, a pull mechanism for stretching the wire, and an adjustment mechanism for offsetting a change of relative effective length between the inner wire and the outer sheath.

Speed changing device for a bicycle and the like

A front derailleur for a bicycle, for shifting a drive chain to one sprocket wheel of a multispeed front gear, has a fixing member, two parallelogrammatic linkage members, a chain guide, and return springs for restoring the chain guide. The fixing member is pivoted to an arm securing one terminal of a Bowden wire. A transmitting member for transmitting swinging motion of the arm to one of the linkage members is provided between the arm and the one linkage member, is supported at its one end to one of the arm and linkage member, and abuts at the other end against the other of both the members by being imparted with an elastic force greater than that of the return springs, so that when the chain guide is subjected to resistance within a given range the transmitting member transmits without displacement the arm motion to the chain guide to be laterally moved for changing the bicycle speed. On the other hand, when the resistance exceeds the given range, the transmitting member transmits no motion of the arm to the chain guide but is displaced to be energized, whereby it can, when the resistance becomes less than the given range, carry out the speed change by forcibly moving the chain guide using the stored elastic energy in it.
