Optical module

A composite optical fiber cable has coated optical fibers and electric wires disposed inside a sheath. The optical fibers are enclosed within a first protective tube that is situated at the cross-sectional center, while the electric wires are disposed between the first protective tube and the sheath, and are capable of moving in the circumferential direction of the first protective tube. A composite optical fiber cable assembly includes a composite optical fiber cable and a connector attached to the cable. Inside the connector, a wiring portion for wiring the optical fiber to a ferrule and a wiring portion for wiring the electric wire to an electric terminal are disposed within a common space S inside a housing, and at least the wiring portion of the optical fiber which lies inside the space S is covered by a second protective tube.

There is provided an optical connector module in which an adhesive is interposed between a lens and a distal surface of an optical fiber, wherein the module includes a transparent positioning device and an optical fiber fixed in the positioning device. The positioning device has a lens provided to an end surface, a concave insertion portion into which the optical fiber is inserted and which is disposed so that the bottom surface in contact with the distal surface of the optical fiber is positioned opposite the lens, and a debris receiving portion that extends from the bottom surface in a radial direction of the optical fiber and has a surface continuous with the bottom surface.

An object is to obtain a module in which an optical fiber can be inserted after a ferrule has been mounted on a circuit board. There are provided an optical fiber cutting method and a cutting apparatus which can easily cut a coated optical fiber without a step of removing a coating from the optical fiber. It includes a clamp which holds the coated optical fiber, having a glass fiber and the coating, on both sides of a portion-to-be-cut, a disk-shaped blade member which moves at the portion-to-be-cut in a direction orthogonal to an axis of the optical fiber to cut the coating and to provide a slit into the glass fiber, and a support which presses, with a predetermined pressing force, the portion-to-be-cut from an opposite side of the blade member with respect to the portion-to-be-cut when cutting the coating and providing the slit into the glass fiber. A head of the support is formed with a groove along a sliding direction of the blade member.

Optical fiber cutting apparatus and optical fiber cutting method

An optical module is configured such that it is not susceptible to fine particulate matter when an optical fiber is inserted into a fiber insertion hole thereof. The optical module is also configured to prevent any reduction in the optical coupling efficiency and degradation of anti-noise properties with the optical fiber. The optical module includes: a ferrule, having the fiber insertion hole formed on an end surface on which an electrical circuit is formed; a photoelectric conversion element, connected to the electrical circuit and facing the fiber insertion hole; and an optical fiber, optically coupled directly with the photoelectric conversion element. The optical fiber has a glass fiber and a protective coating, and is aligned with the insertion hole with the protective coating interposed therebetween. The optical fiber is retained in the insertion hole with the glass fiber not in contact with the insertion hole.

An optical module has an electrical connector to connect a device; an optical element unit being electrically connected to the electrical connector and provided with optical elements to convert electrical signals and optical signals and emitting or receiving light; an optical ferrule, having a plurality of optical fiber insertion holes, to hold optical fibers inserted into the plurality of optical fiber insertion holes so as to allow the fibers to be optically connected to the optical element; and an optical cable inlet to introduce an end part of an optical cable provided with the optical fibers. The cable unit with an optical module has an optical cable that includes a plurality of optical fibers and an optical module provided at two ends of the optical cable.

An optical connector that is capable of ensuring excellent waterproofing using a simple structure is provided. The optical connector comprises a connector plug and socket. Each of the plug and socket have a housing, which has a cable-guiding part and a cable-retaining part; a ferrule disposed within the housing and to hold a leading-end part of an optical fiber exposed from a sheath of an optical cable; and a seal member disposed between the cable-guiding part and the cable-retaining part to seal the cable-guiding part.

In the ultraviolet curable resin coating layer of a coated optical fiberof an optical fiber ribbonfor wiring of equipment, the inner fiber coating layerhas a Young's modulus of 600 MPa to 1000 MPa, and the outer fiber coating layerhas a Young's modulus of 10 MPa to 300 MPa. The material of the outer fiber coating layeris made by mixing 100 weight parts of base resin, 1-30 weight parts of silicone-based additive, and 0.5 to 40 weight parts of long chain fatty acid ester compound, wherein the base resin is a material made of a urethane metha acrylate oligomer, a mono-functional or multi-functional reactive dilution monomer, and an optical initiator.
