An method for simultaneously writing a data stream onto a recording medium with a low writing and reading rate such as an optical disk and outputting a data stream stored on the recording medium. In the method, an inputted data stream is retained by the first buffer. The stream held in the first buffer is written on the recording medium. The stream recorded on the recording medium is read onto the second buffer to output the stream to an external device. The writing and the reading are controlled based on the duration to consume the stream held on the second buffer, so that the writing and reading are real-time.

Data output apparatus

An apparatus for simultaneously writing a data stream onto a recording medium with a low writing and reading rate such as an optical disk and outputting a data stream stored on the recording medium. In the apparatus, the first buffer retains an inputted data stream. The stream held in the first buffer is written on the recording medium. The stream recorded on the recording medium is read onto the second buffer to output the stream to an external device. The writing and the reading are controlled based on the duration to consume the stream held on the second buffer, so that the writing and reading are real-time.

Apparatus for simultaneously writing and outputting data stream

In a data stream output apparatus, it is so arranged that a read buffer(pre-reading buffer ) is provided for storing the data stream read from the storage medium, and a memory is provided for storing a time table Mt indicating the position and size (Sm) of the data block to be sent out to the external device every given period (f) in the data stream, the data block including motion picture data to be decoded by the external device every given period (f). Further a send buffer is provided for storing the data stream to be sent out to the external device via the digital interface. According to the arrangement of the data stream output apparatus, a controller is provided for controlling the outputting of the data stream stored by the read buffer from the send buffer to the external device via digital interface, so as to have a fixed size (K) when the size (Sm) of transmit data block is not equal to the fixed size (K), controls the outputting of the resultant data block from the send buffer to the external device via the digital interface.

Data stream output apparatus

During video editing, video data is recorded in continuous areas of at least a predetermined length on an optical disc to ensure that the display of video images is uninterrupted. A first segment, out of a plurality of segments recorded on an optical disc, whose consecutive area on the optical disc is shorter than the predetermined length is detected. Re-encoded data that is to be reproduced either immediately before or immediately after the detected first segment is recorded next to the first segment. If the combined continuous area of the first segment and the re-encoded data is still below a predetermined length, the segment that is to be reproduced on the other side of the re-encoded data to the first segment is recorded on the optical disc so as to be positioned on the other side of the re-encoded data, thereby increasing the continuous length of the recording area beyond the predetermined length.

Video data editing apparatus and computer-readable recording medium storing an editing program

A control unit for a computer system regulates the removal of power from the computer system when a user's power off signal is received in correlation with a process control table monitoring those programs in use in a volatile memory. The volatile memory is supplemented with a temporary storing means for reserving certain types of computer programs when the computer system is turned off. The status of a program is determined upon receiving a power off signal and a decision is made on the storage of the program in a temporary storage memory of limited space.

Apparatus and method for suspending and resuming software applications

The control unit of a computer system comprises a first storing device for holding written data while the power is on, a second storing device for holding the written data, even when the power is off and a power-off preserving device for terminating power to the system after transferring the data held in the first storing device to the second storing device. The control system can be utilized to only store the effective contents of the operating data to thereby enable data reconstruction upon resumption of power. The control device can interface with a window system processing device which can enable the refreshing of graphic display information upon resumption of power. The second storing device may have limited memory capacity and the operator can be informed of its capacity prior to a final shut-off of power. The control unit can further identify those programs that are not capable of being restored to their original condition and accordingly canceling any program execution when such a condition is judged.

There is disclosed a control unit of a computer system comprising a volatile storing device for holding written data while the power is on, a non-volatile storing device for holding the written data even when the power is off, and a power-off preserving device for powering off after transferring the data held in the volatile storing device to the non-volatile storing device. The control unit of the computer system further comprising a power-on resuming device for returning the data held in the non-volatile storing device to the volatile storing device. There is also disclosed a control unit of a computer system comprising a non-resumable condition judging device for judging whether the status of the computer system meets the process non resumable condition or not when the powering off operation is directed, and a non-resumable condition informing device for informing the user that the status has been judged to meet the condition.

Apparatus and method for suspending and resuming software on a computer

A control unit of a computer system comprising a process resuming device for resuming the execution of the program it was running before the powering off operation by resuming the previous contents stored in a memory device containing registers in CPU, registers in input/output control units, and a volatile memory there were before the powering off operation, a non-resumable condition judging device for judging whether the status of the computer system meets the substantially non-resumable condition or not even the stored contents in the storing device has returned to the previous status at the powering back on, and either one of a program execution control device for restarting the execution of a program from the beginning at the powering back on according to the judged results by the non-resumable condition judging device, or a power control unit for powering off after the process has been judged to be in the substantially resumable status by the non-resumable condition judging device. There is also disclosed a construction in which programs loaded by a volatile memory are preserved to a storing device capable of holding data even when the power is off according to the executing status. There is also disclosed a construction in which data exceeding the capacity of the storing device is preserved to a hard disk or the like.
